This has been the worst PR week in the history of the National Football League.

Star Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has basically admitted to child abuse. Ray Rice knocked out then-fianee Janay Palmer with a punch, shedding light on other domestic violence cases in the NFL and the league's lax policy when it comes to alleged offenders.

It's been a nightmare for (awful) Commissioner Roger Goodell, but it's also just been a couple new examples of a sad trend: athletes in trouble with the law, with their wives or just with the public in general.

From performance-enhancing drug use... to the banging of so many cocktail waitresses... to one of the most heinous acts and most despicable individuals imaginable, we rundown 14 scandals below that made us ashamed to cheer on our favorite teams or athletes:

LIAR!
Lance Armstrong denied it and denied it, but he eventually came clean: yes, he cheated to win every Tour de France.

Notorious figure skater, criminal and amateur sex tape star Tonya Harding welcomed her first child last weekend, according to reports. Congratulations!

Harding, 40, gave birth to a boy on Saturday in a Washington hospital.

"Everybody's healthy and happy," friend Don Horn tells the Oregonian.

This time, there are only tears of joy for Tonya.

"She's always wanted a baby. She was told she could never have a child ... and guess what? It really is a miracle and she really is very happy."

It's the first child for Tonya Harding and Joseph Price, who recently wed.

Tonya Harding is going to be a mom. We're already praying for that kid.

The former figure skating champ, felon and amateur porn star and her husband, Joseph Price, are expecting “any time,” the 40-year-old confirms.

Tonya's pregnant with a boy and “super excited.” This should end well.

PICTURE OF HAPPINESS: In other news, Joe Price agreed to marry Tonya Harding at some point last year. Crazy world! Just watch your knees, dude ...

Some of you may not recall the infamous run-up to the 1994 Olympics, during which Tonya Harding's ex-husband hired a hit man to club her chief figure skating rival, Nancy Kerrigan, in the knee to better Tonya's odds at the U.S. trials.

Well, that happened. So we can't exactly say we were expecting Harding of all people to speak out and offer Kerrigan sympathy in the aftermath of her father's death.

Daniel Kerrigan died at the age of 70. Nancy's 45-year-old brother, Mark Kerrigan, was arrested for assault and battery on an elder resulting in serious bodily injury.

Despite their adversarial past, Tonya Harding offered support to Nancy.

Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding go way back. Not in a good way.

"Tonya feels very sad for Nancy and her family and extends her deepest sympathy and condolences to them," her rep said in a statement to The Insider.

"Tonya's beloved dad, Al Harding, passed away this past April, so she understands the grief Nancy and her family are feeling at this difficult time."

We wouldn't hold our breath waiting for a reply if we were her, but that classy statement to her skating counterpart does accomplish this much:

It was less insane than when Tonya took on Barack Obama. Goodness.

Former figure skating champ Tonya Harding is angry and indignant that Barack Obama would name-drop her as a punchline during last year's presidential campaign.

Note to Tonya: He's far from the first, sweetie.

For those unfamiliar with her, Harding won the 1991 and 1994 U.S. Figure Skating titles, but was arrested after her ex-husband Jeff Gillooly conspired to attack rival Nancy Kerrigan at a practice session before the '94 Olympic trials.

She later went on to a classy career of leaking sex tapes with Gillooly, drinking heavily and getting arrested a lot, with a brief stint in professional boxing thrown in. Pics of her may also appear in the dictionary under "trailer trash."

Anyway, that brings us to today.

Harding says she is pissed at the President of the United States after he "used her" (referencing the above incident) while seeking the White House last year. The Fox interviewer sums it up best when he responds: "You are a piece of work" ...
