When we next see Damon Salvatore and Elena Gilbert on The Vampire Diaries, they will be together, in love and happier than ever.

But what obstacle might get in the way of their future? Well... he's 172 years old and she's only 18, Ian Somerhalder jokes in the following interview.

Seriously, though, folks, there's a "dark underbelly" of Mystic Falls that always seems to cause trouble for Delena, along with most of the couple's close friends. How might that come into play on The Vampire Diaries Season 5?

And how can you help this actor give back to important causes, such as animal rescue and environment protect? He makes a simple request in this exclusive chat with our friends at TV Fanatic. Check it out now:

The rules have changed on The Vampire Diaries Season 5, according to the CW's first promo, unveiled this afternoon. But some things remain the same.

Namely swooning over Damon and Elena as they trade "I love yous" and wishing that Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev were still together in real life.

Oh well. We'll always have TVD.

Also, we see Stefan (or his mysterious Shadow Self) putting the moves on newly-humanized Katherine, and Jeremy battling an unknown enemy. Watch:

The fan favorite returns for its fifth season Thursday, October 3 with "I Know What You Did Last Summer," and so many unsolved mysteries unfolding.

Chief among them? Whether Delena fans will break Twitter if their beloved couple actually stays together ... or if they break up. Either way. Breakage.

The Vampire Diaries actress Nina Dobrev was one of the most buzz-worthy stars at the buzz-worthy Teen Choice Awards ... and it's easy to see why.

Fresh off of her split with co-star Ian Somerhalder, the 24-year-old beauty is starting to get noticed for her red-carpet attire as well as her CW role.

Dobrev was honored for her work on The Vampire Diaries (Choice Female Scene Stealer), but she was also a big Teen Choice Awards fashion winner.

The star arrived in a colorful, splashy jumpsuit with a plunging neckline that made it hard to stay focused on her face ... and she has a very pretty face.

It was a great summer look for Nina, who seems to be showing Ian what he's missing every time she goes out in public, whether that's her goal or not.

What do you think of her Teen Choice outfit?

Neither Sarah Michelle Gellar not Jennifer Love Hewitt are coming to The Vampire Diaries.

But the show is serving us all with a reminder of these gorgeous stars in its just-announced season premiere title: "I Know What You Did Last Summer."

Julie Plec revealed the fun tidbit in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

The title makes sense based on The Vampire Diaries spoilers out there:

Ian Somerhalder offered a fan Nina Dobrev's phone number at Comic-Con yesterday in what could best be described as an awkward moment.

  • Ian Somerhalder Waves
  • Nina Dobrev Smiles

The two co-stars appeared at the annual San Diego pop culture extravaganza for a panel Q&A discussion to promote The Vampire Diaries Season 5.

Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev, who dated in real life but broke up earlier this year, have remained cordial and professional by all accounts.

That doesn't mean things aren't weird at times, however.

At one point, Nina joked in response to a question, "Is there anyone Elena hasn't made out with?" when an audience member shouted "Me!"

Ian replied, "Give me your number. I'll set you up."

The first footage from The Vampire Diaries Season 5 was revealed at the end of a long series retrospective today at the show's Comic-Con panel.

In San Diego, TVD's "big three" and executive producer Julie Plec teased a number of new developments, along with our first look at the new season.

One featuring Paul Wesley (Stefan), now in full Silas mode:

The closing moments of the series-summarizing montage show the ancient, mysterious, supernatural being addressing a crowd of captivated townsfolk.

Talking about the blood he's consumed and his upcoming plans for the residents, Silas/Stefan will clearly be in rare form when we return to Mystic Falls.

Also, it looks like Damon and Elena kiss. So there's that.

TVD Season 5 premieres October 10 on the CW.
