Katherine isn't the only thing getting old on The Vampire Diaries.

While this week's installment featured a number of twists and turns, The CW hit is clearly feeling its age these days, which is understandable after four-plus terrific seasons.

We learned on The Vampire Diaries Season 5 Episode 6 that Amara was the anchor used by Tessa to bind the spell that created The Other side and which Silas now must destroy if he wants to finally die and be reunied with his long lost love.

But he no longer has to do that because, hey, his long lost love is alive! Only she drank his blood and took The Cure and is now human and wants to die.

We always knew Katherine Pierce was a bad mutha.

But an actual bad mother? Of Nadia the Traveler? Who was abandoned in 1492 and got herself turned into a vampire just to track down her globe-trotting parent and save her from Silas a few centuries later?

Not sure any viewer saw that one coming.

Yes, The Vampire Diaries Season 5 Episode 5 dropped two bombshells when it came to everyone's favorite plot device, Katherine:

  1. Nadia is her daughter.
  2. Katherine simply can't die.

Well... that was totally awesome and crazy, wasn't it?

On The Vampire Diaries Season 5 Episode 3, viewers were introduced to Janina Gavankar as Qetsiyah, a self-described paranoid/controlling/crazy witch who resurfaced outside Mystic Falls to settle an ancient grudge with Silas.

What kind of grudge?

The kind where he pretends to be in love with you 2,000 years ago... just to convince you to make an immortality potion... only he steals that potion on your wedding day and takes it with his actual true love, who happens to be a doppleganger that looks just like Elena Gilbert.

So you create a cure for this immortality potion, feed it to the doppleganger, rip her heart out and trap Silas in a tomb with the cure in the hope that he'll take it and be dead once and for all.

You know. Basic scorned witch stuff.

The Fifty Shades of Grey movie has been debated, discussed and speculated about from day one, and the recent turmoil hasn't quelled fans' anticipation.

With actor Charlie Hunnam pulling out of the project almost as soon as he signed on, the million-dollar question once again is who will play Christian Grey.

Among the (fan) favorites? Ian Somerhalder of The Vampire Diaries fame!

While Dakota Johnson is still on board as Ana Steele, TVD fans would no doubt wonder what 50 Shades would be like with Ian and co-star Nina Dobrev.

The Fifty Shades of Grey trailer above imagines just that scenario.

Freshman year is off to a rough start for Caroline Forbes and Elena Gilbert.

Their boyfriends are either MIA or lying about their brother getting expelled. Their new professor might be at the center of a college-wide conspiracy and not even the sight of a tied-up, shirtless Damon Salvatore is cause for celebration.

But Caroline and Elena weren't the only Vampire Diaries characters to have a rough go of it on "True Lies" this week. Let's breakdown the episode below, question by question...

What the heck are Gypsies Travelers?!? They clearly don't get along well with Silas, except for one of them who admittedly has her own agenda.

And... we're off and running on The Vampire Diaries Season 5!

Or off and killing, we should say.

The premiere of this CW smash featured a pair of shocking deaths, one of a recurring character from last year and one of someone we just met. Which will have a greater impact on our heroes and heroines? And what did we learn overall from "I Know What You Did Last Summer."

Let's run it all down below!

  • Paul Wesley is so darn good at being bad. No offense, Stefan, but go right ahead and remain under that water for awhile. Like he did while playing the "Ripper" side of his beloved Salvatore brother, Wesley simply excels at being evil. You can just see in his eyes how much he relishes the role.

Nina Dobrev isn't the only Vampire Diaries star moving on.

With rumors circulating that this actress is now dating Derek Hough, sources tell Us Weekly that Paul Wesley has struck up a romance with former costar Phoebe Tonkin.

The gorgeous pair were spotted at the Soho House on Saturday, allegedly on a double date with Ben McKenzie and Shelley Hennig, according to an eye witness.

Paul Wesley and Phoebe Tonkin

"Paul and Phoebe were 100% romantic - they were across the table from Ben all cozied up on the couch kissing each other," the onlooker tells the tabloid. "She had her head on his chest."

After about two years of marriage, Wesley filed for divorce from Torrey DeVitto in July.

He knows Tonkin from their (recent) days on The Vampire Diaries, though this Australian beauty left the show in May and now stars on its spinoff, The Originals.

Both The Originals and The Vampire Diaries Season 5 kick off Thursday, October 3.
