The Vampire Diaries Season 5 Episode 9, "The Cell," took place predominantly inside one. In multiple time periods, in fact, for the troubled Damon Salvatore.

After Elena and Aaron try to find Damon and Wes ends up snaring Elena in the process, Damon tells Elena about his years at Augustine while held captive.

Meanwhile, Aaron learns about his family's history through Wes, and later on, we learned the startling connection between his lineage and Damon's past.

Enzo, Damon's partner in crime back in his '50s prison days, is somehow still alive, and Elena looks to be next in line on the torturing block along with him.

Speaking of locked in cells, Stefan confronted his PTSD last night.

Caroline and Katherine tried to help him get over his mental struggles through some intense therapy in The Vampire Diaries Season 5 Episode 9.

Did it work out? And who ended up hooking up at the end of it?

With Silas, Amara and Tessa finally biting the dust last week, Elena and Caroline tried to throw a party to celebrate on The Vampire Diaries Season 5 Episode 8.

Of course, it was only a matter of time before that all fell apart.

Damon found out about Whitmore's secret society in "Dead Man on Campus," and as we saw at the end, it's one that will reveal a lot about him personally.

The Vampire Diaries Season 5 Episode 8 reset the CW series with a mysterious new twist, while Stefan and Bonnie struggled to deal with their new realities.

What's up with Katherine, Matt and Nadia? And which character bit the dust just as he started to get interesting? There's a lot to discuss, that's for sure.

Which is what brought you here, so let's get down to it. Catch up with the Mystic Falls gang right now by clicking on the picture above for the full installment!

The Vampire Diaries' most recent episode, "Death and the Maiden," was a doozy. The CW show cleaned house, scrubbing three (3!) peeps out of the confusing picture.

At the same time, a familiar face came back from the Other Side.

While the events of The Vampire Diaries Season 5 Episode 7 went a long way toward resetting the series in many respects, the fallout may not be over yet.

Katherine Pierce? Prognosis is not looking good, girl. Sorry.

Sucks to be human sometimes, but hey, it beats being Silas. Want to watch this episode again? Or for the first time if you haven't seen it? Just click the pic below!

The Vampire Diaries featured three deaths, one resurrection and a whole lot of snoozing this week.

Seriously, did anything actually happen?!?

If a friend of yours missed The Vampire Diaries Season 5 Episode 7, you could catch her up in about 10 seconds:

  • Amara, Silas and Tessa all died.
  • Bonnie was made into the new anchor to The Other Side and can now feel the pain of each supernatural death.
  • Stefan collapsed at the end of the hour because he is still bogged down (or something) by the memories of Silas submerging him in water for three months..
  • Oh, and Katherine is aging rapidly and could be dead in a few months.

There was a lot of running around and some lost electricity, but this was mostly an hour dedicated to cleaning hour.

Are co-stars Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev back together after breaking up earlier this year? It certainly seems like it, according to new reports!

While we've learned on The Vampire Diaries Season 5 that the universe is on Team Stefan, the actress is still on Team Damon ... on and off the set.

Ian and Nina, who broke up in May after three years of dating, are hooking up again, E! News reports. Specifically, they are "hot and heavy once again."

The future of the gorgeous couple "remains to be seen," but things are looking that way, say insiders close to both Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev.

Dobrev, 24, reportedly rebounded with Dancing with the Stars pro Derek Hough this past summer, but the duo split after only six weeks together.

The duo decided their brief union had "played itself out," a source said, and soon after, she rekindled things with Somerhalder, 34, on the TVD set.

Katherine isn't the only thing getting old on The Vampire Diaries.

While this week's installment featured a number of twists and turns, The CW hit is clearly feeling its age these days, which is understandable after four-plus terrific seasons.

We learned on The Vampire Diaries Season 5 Episode 6 that Amara was the anchor used by Tessa to bind the spell that created The Other side and which Silas now must destroy if he wants to finally die and be reunied with his long lost love.

But he no longer has to do that because, hey, his long lost love is alive! Only she drank his blood and took The Cure and is now human and wants to die.

We always knew Katherine Pierce was a bad mutha.

But an actual bad mother? Of Nadia the Traveler? Who was abandoned in 1492 and got herself turned into a vampire just to track down her globe-trotting parent and save her from Silas a few centuries later?

Not sure any viewer saw that one coming.

Yes, The Vampire Diaries Season 5 Episode 5 dropped two bombshells when it came to everyone's favorite plot device, Katherine:

  1. Nadia is her daughter.
  2. Katherine simply can't die.

Well... that was totally awesome and crazy, wasn't it?

On The Vampire Diaries Season 5 Episode 3, viewers were introduced to Janina Gavankar as Qetsiyah, a self-described paranoid/controlling/crazy witch who resurfaced outside Mystic Falls to settle an ancient grudge with Silas.

What kind of grudge?

The kind where he pretends to be in love with you 2,000 years ago... just to convince you to make an immortality potion... only he steals that potion on your wedding day and takes it with his actual true love, who happens to be a doppleganger that looks just like Elena Gilbert.

So you create a cure for this immortality potion, feed it to the doppleganger, rip her heart out and trap Silas in a tomb with the cure in the hope that he'll take it and be dead once and for all.

You know. Basic scorned witch stuff.

The Fifty Shades of Grey movie has been debated, discussed and speculated about from day one, and the recent turmoil hasn't quelled fans' anticipation.

With actor Charlie Hunnam pulling out of the project almost as soon as he signed on, the million-dollar question once again is who will play Christian Grey.

Among the (fan) favorites? Ian Somerhalder of The Vampire Diaries fame!

While Dakota Johnson is still on board as Ana Steele, TVD fans would no doubt wonder what 50 Shades would be like with Ian and co-star Nina Dobrev.

The Fifty Shades of Grey trailer above imagines just that scenario.

Freshman year is off to a rough start for Caroline Forbes and Elena Gilbert.

Their boyfriends are either MIA or lying about their brother getting expelled. Their new professor might be at the center of a college-wide conspiracy and not even the sight of a tied-up, shirtless Damon Salvatore is cause for celebration.

But Caroline and Elena weren't the only Vampire Diaries characters to have a rough go of it on "True Lies" this week. Let's breakdown the episode below, question by question...

What the heck are Gypsies Travelers?!? They clearly don't get along well with Silas, except for one of them who admittedly has her own agenda.
