The Vampire Diaries returns TONIGHT on the CW.
In the first episode of the third season, Elena celebrates her birthday, but receives a rude awakening when Damon presents her with some very bad news.
Calling her an idiot for holding out hope for Stefan, he reveals what his brother has been up to in the months since we last saw the Mystic Falls characters ...
What does she find that forces Damon to reveal the news? Was he right to try to shield her from this? And is Stefan really "gone", never to return?

The Vampire Diaries Spoilers: A Season 3 Primer
When we said goodbye to Mystic Falls in May, Stefan had joined up with Klaus; Jeremy's ex-girlfriends had returned as ghosts; and Damon had been looking really sexy.
So, where will everything stand on the September 15 premiere? Our friends at TV Fanatic have posted a number of The Vampire Diaries spoilers to get fans prepared for a new season. Among them:
- Stefan is globe-trotting and committing many murders with Klaus.
- Elena is turning 18.
- Caroline and Tyler are figuring out their relationship.

Vampire Diaries Stars Pose for Rolling Stone, Prepare for Butt Kicking
The Twilight Saga doesn't actually conclude until November 2012, but Ian Somerhalder doesn't care. He's already making a pitch to fans of that franchise.
“The whole Twilight thing is about to be over," The Vampire Diaries stars says in the latest issue of Rolling Stone, when asked about his show's competition. "And teenage girls can’t watch True Blood with their parents - that would just get weird. So we’re getting ready to kick some major ass this season.”

The season will include a blood-thirsty Stefan, as previewed in this trailer, along with a closer relationship between Elena and Damon, Caroline and Tyler.
How does the cast get along overall? It's "a total frickin' lovefest," Somerhalder said, and he should know: the actor is dating Dobrev.

The Vampire Diaries Producer on Casting Justin Bieber: Pass!
He actually was not terrible on CSI, but Justin Bieber will not be extending his acting resume to include The Vampire Diaries.
The cast of this his CW show was asked about guest stars during its Comic-Con panel over the weekend and, after joking about Fabio and Taylor Swift, Nina Dobrev said Bieber had wanted to do the show. But producer Kevin Williamson made it stance on stunt-casting clear:
It is "not something that we excel at,” he said. “Casting a star doesn’t really interest me. I want the right actor in the right role.”

Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev Go Public at the MuchMusic Video Awards
It's official and adorable: Domerhalder is a go!
A month after Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev were spotted vacationing together in Paris, the CW co-stars showed up on the red carpet of the MuchMusic Video Awards last night... hand-in-hand!
"Who am I most excited to see tonight?" Somerhalder said prior to the event. "Nina Dobrev!"
These Vampire Diaries stars have actually been dating for months (a friend tells Us Weekly they are the "real deal"), but have impressively managed to mostly keep the relationship a secret.
No longer, however. With their on-screen characters locking lips to close season two, perhaps Ian and Nina are preparing viewers for a major taste of Delena on season three.

Overshadowed by a certain other pairing of a fake vampire and his lady love, Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev have managed to keep their relationship relatively quiet.
But the actor who makes women squeal on The Vampire Diaries and the actress who finally got to kiss him on the season two finale were spotted in Paris this week - arm in arm, strolling alongside their mothers. AWWWW!
Don't these two make for an adorable couple? They're just missing one vital item: a nickname!
