Show them how strong you are, Katniss. They just want a good show.

At last night's MTV Video Music Awards - once almost all the hardware was handed out, the performances complete, the announcements made and the smooches delivered - Jennifer Lawrence popped up on screen and introduced the first official trailer for The Hunger Games.

It features Lawrence's Katniss wandering through the arena, with a voice (Gale's, right?) imparting wisdom to this character via narration. It then concludes with Katniss pulled out an arrow and lighting the Mockingjay pin on fire...

The Hunger Games comes out on March 23.

MTV has given fans their very first look at Jennifer Lawrence in the role of Katniss Everdeen.

Their first first, very brief look, that is.

With The Hunger Games set to release its first official trailer at this Sunday's Video Music Awards, the film has provided us with a teaser for that teaser, really nothing more than a video of the famous mockingjay pin on fire... until the very end, when we see Katniss glance up, presumably somewhere in the arena.

Of course, Entertainment Weekly has provided us with a still shot of Lawrence in this beloved role. Check out that magazine shot now!

The recently-released poster of The Hunger Games, with the franchise's famous mockingjay pin on fire? Very cool.

An actual trailer with footage from the wildly anticipated March 23 release? Even cooler... and on the way! (UPDATE: And here it is! Watch below!)

According to Movie Fanatic, Jennifer Lawrence will make her debut as Katniss Everdeen this Sunday night, as the first official preview for The Hunger Games airs during the MTV Video Music Awards. The planned trilogy is based on three best-selling novels by Suzanne Collins.

And in case you needed another reason to tune in for the ceremony: Lady Gaga will be kicking it off.

We're still months away from the March 23 release of The Hunger Games, the wildly-anticipated movie adaption of Suzanne Collins' best-seller.

But Lionsgate has already announced the premiere date of Catching Fire, the second novel in this suspense and love-filled trilogy. It will hit theaters on November 22, 2013.

“The magical thing about the Hunger Games trilogy is that the books have such a vastly broad appeal,” said Joe Drake, co-COO of Lionsgate, in a statement. “The stories truly offer something for everyone, and the period around the Thanksgiving weekend is such an opportunity for families and friends to make an event of going to the movies.”

Without giving too much away, we can report that Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson will all reprise their roles in the second installment of this (awesome!!!) franchise.

You've seen them on magazine covers, but are you ready to get a look at Katniss and Peeta inside The Hunger Games themselves?

Two new photos have emerged online from the set of the March 2012 blockbuster, one featuring Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss and the other of Josh Hutcherson as Peeta. It's safe to assume both of these images are courtesy of the titular, death-defying contest itself:

Two months ago, Entertainment Weekly gave readers their first look at Jennifer Lawrence in the main Hunger Games role of Katniss Everdeen.

Now, the magazine had done the same for Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, who will portray the two young man both pining for Katniss in the big screen version of this best-selling novel, Peeta and Gale, respectively.

Hemsworth, of course, is mostly known for dating Miley Cyrus. But director Gary Ross stands up for the Australian actor in an interview with the magazine and says:

“On first glance he’s such a hunk that it’s easy to just sort of ascribe a hunk-like simplicity to him. But this is a phenomenally subtle actor.”

We may be getting a whole lot of The Hunger Games.

Months prior to the first film in this book trilogy hitting theaters (on March 23), Lionsgate has told Wall Street analysts that it may very well expand the final movie into two parts.

It's a money-grabbing strategy that has worked brought in hundreds of millions for Harry Potter and The Twilight Saga.

The Hunger Games Books

"We have distributors who consider this as their big brand next year, the movie that can change their company," said motion picture group president Joe Drake.

Considering the wild popularity of the story, and the incredible cast (Jennifer Lawrence! Elizabeth Banks! Donald Sutherland!), it's easy to see why.

But where would the split even occur between the second and third books? And, as much as we adore Katniss, Peeta and company, it is possible to have too much of a good thing.

What do you think? Should The Hunger Games be expanded into four movies?

Jennifer Lawrence, meet your nemesis.

Donald Sutherland has landed one of the final, major roles remaining in The Hunger Games.

The veteran actor will portray President Snow in the franchise, a character who grows in importance following Katniss' initial run in his Capitol-sponsored death event. Snow is in charge of the post-Apocalyptic North America depicted in the books.

Sutherland joins Jennifer (as Katniss Everdeen), Josh Hutcherson (as Peeta Mellark), Liam Hemsworth (as Gale Hawthorne), Elizabeth Banks (as Effie Trinket), Stanley Tucci (as Caesar Flickerman), and Woody Harrelson (as Haymitch) in the big screen adaption of these novels.

The first hits theaters on March 23.
