Elizabeth Banks has been rumored for the part of Effie Trinket in the upcoming film adaptation of The Hunger Games, according to new reports.

A buzzed-about cast already features Jennifer Lawrence as lead character Katniss Everdeen, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta and Liam Hemsworth as Gale.

The rumor of Banks as Effie, a flaky bureaucrat who escorts her district's young death-match contestants to their fate, was first reported by Variety.

Lionsgate would not confirm whether Banks will be joining the film, based on the bestselling young-adult novel (the first in a hit trilogy) by Suzanne Collins.

The Hunger Games takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, one boy and one girl from each district are chosen to fight to the death in a televised event.

Banks has already taken on one huge new role this year: Mom. She and hubby Max Handelman welcomed a son, Felix, by gestational carrier in March.

Two more roles in The Hunger Games have been filled.

Lionsgate has confirmed that the parts of Rue and Thresh of District 11 have officially been cast - Dayo Okeniyi will play strong and quiet District 11 tribute Thresh, while Amandla Stenberg will play Katniss Everdeen's young ally Rue.

These two look the part(s), but as far as acting chops, they're unproven. Doesn't mean they won't pass muster, of course. Everyone starts somewhere.

The pair joins Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, who recently won the roles of Peeta Mellark and Gale Hawthorne, respectively, in the new film.

The gorgeous, talented Jennifer Lawrence will play Katniss, of course.

Who's still left to be cast? One major part - the role of Haymitch Abernathy, the only living Hunger Games winner of District 12 - is still vacant.

Jennifer Lawrence cannot WAIT to star in The Hunger Games.

The actress says that while she may not look much like the way Katniss Everdeen is described in the book series, she was a big fan long before she was cast as the character in the film adaptation and can't wait to bring her to life.

She hopes her own Hunger Games fanhood will help, as well. "The cool thing about Katniss is that every fan has such a personal relationship with her, they know and understand her in a singular way," she says. "I'm a massive fan, so I get it."

Director Gary Ross and author Suzanne Collins have spoken out in defense of casting Lawrence as Katniss, despite the perceived physical differences.

"She's incredibly powerful, brave, and tough, and yet she has great tenderness and complexity," says Jennifer, who earned an Oscar nod for Winter's Bone. "It was very humbling hearing that Suzanne and Gary feel I embody those traits."

Other traits she says she embodies? Grittiness and toughness:

"I was a cheerleader for six years, but I have a totally competitive side. I'll wrestle anyone at any time. I was the manliest cheerleader. I had the lowest voice."

Has The Hunger Games found its Peeta Mellark?

Sources tell E! News that Weeds star Hunter Parrish is in serious negotiations to take on the male lead in this anticipated movie franchise. He confirmed to the site last night that he has "met the producers" and would be "grateful" for the opportunity.

Gale Poster

Parrish hasn't seen a script for the film based on Suzanne Collins' bestselling novel trilogy yet, but it's one of the most sought after roles in Hollywood. (Alex Pettyfer is also under consideration to play Peeta.) Jennifer Lawrence is the leading contender to portray Katniss Everdeen.

Said Parrish of the outpouring of support he's received on Twitter: "You don't get much better than that. The true fans of the book. So regardless of whether I'm a part of the film or not, I feel honored to just sort of be thought of."

What do you think? Would this 23-year star be a good fit as Mellark?
