According to Donald Sutherland, Jennifer Lawrence is akin to Jesus Christ.

That's mighty high praise for the star of The Hunger Games franchise.

But is The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 worthy of the same praise? What are critics around the country saying about this wildly anticipated blockbuster? Let's find out...

Julianne Moore as President Coin
This is our first look at Julianne Moore in Mockingjay. It's safe to say we're excited for the film.

Mockingjay - Part 1, however well done, can't compete with the first two films, although it sets up what should be its stunning ending well enough. - Tom Long

If Mockingjay - Part 1 is quieter and less flashy than its predecessors, that doesn't make it less satisfying. - Steven Rea

Lawrence delivers on what dramatic beats half a novel affords him. You just wish there were more of them and that they provided a more complete, more satisfying story arc. - Kenneth Turan

Katniss' concern for the anti-sexy Peeta results in her spending quite a bit of the movie in po-faced mopery. - Kurt Loder

SPOILER ALERT:

Peeta is alive.

In a new trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1, Katniss is gearing up for a battle against the Capitol when she’s stopped in her brave tracks by a video that doesn't just feature her quasi boyfriend... it features him sending an unexpected message.

Peeta is seen telling all rebels to "lay down their weapons" and when Katniss defends him as being forced to do so by President Snow, Gale responds harshly.

"Everyone has a choice, Katniss, and I'd rather die than say what he just said," Liam Hemsworth says in the sneak peek.

Sadly, the only saying will ring true for Katniss Everdeen next month:

She really can't go home again. At least not to the home in which she was raised.

In the latest trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, we see Jennifer Lawrence as the reluctant hero of this beloved franchise, as she gets a close look at the damage inflicted upon her native District 12.

Did The Hunger Games really destroy Katniss? Perhaps. But she'll be willing to fight after seeing what the Capitol has done to where she grew up.

The preview is accompanied by a Lorde single and also a voiceover by Philip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch Heavensbee.

Did you catch the first official Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 trailer?

Intense stuff, right? Brutal? Serious? Suspenseful? Intriguing? Not exactly any sort of romantic film with comedic aspirations, correct?

But what if The Hunger Games took quite an unexpected shift for the third movie of this wildly successful franchise? What if it were billed as a perky, fun adventure in which Jennifer Lawrence's character had to choose between two appealing male suitors?

Jimmy Kimmel asked and answered that question on his talk show last night.

"Katniss was in a difficult situation," a male voice narrates in the faux trailer above, referencing Gale (Liam Hemsworth) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and explaining of her dilemma:

It is here. And it is AWESOME!

Following a couple of Mockingjay posters and brief Mockingjay teasers, Lionsgate has released the official, full-length trailer for this wildly anticipated blockbuster.

And it's every bit as chill-inducing as fans would hope.

The footage begins with Katniss trying to reason with President Snow, only for the villainous overlord to tell his enemy how it's "the things we love most that destroy us."

Cut to scenes from the Rebellion and Katniss learning of the Capitol's ultimate "weapon. Yup, it's Peeta. GULP!

Any highly-anticipated sequel can get the people psyched with a well-made trailer. But you know a franchise has reached Potter-esque levels of fan obsession when audiences are excited about the trailer for the trailer.

Yes, Lionsgate released a 15-second teaser for the first full preview of Mockingjay Part 1:

Despite it's brevity, the clip packs a punch. Donald Sutherland as the villainous President Snow informs Katniss that "it's the things we love the most that end up destroying us."

Meanwhile Ms. Everdeen looks sad and vaguely pissed off, like she's seeing the Jennifer Lawrence nude photos for the first time.

Speaking of J-Law - last week we caught our first glimpse of the Mockingjay teaser poster. Today, we've been blessed with full-frontal Katniss:

Not only is the Oscar winner clothed this time around, you can't even see her face, as Lawrence poses in the beloved role of Katniss Everdeen for a new Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 promotional poster.

Are you ready to rebel, movie fans?

We know a handful of warriors who certainly are, as Lionsgate has unveiled six new posters in anticipation of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1.

They feature young men and women who will be at the forefront of the impending revolution against The Capitol, one reluctantly (at first) led by Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss.

She’ll have Liam Hemsworth’s Gale by her side, of course, along with key new characters such as Natalie Dormer’s Cressida.

Get your first look at some of these newbies, along with a smoldering shot of Miley Cyrus' ex, via the following rebellion-based posters:
