Whitney Port and Jay Lyon recently broke up, but are rumored to be back together (or at least spending time together) recently. But for those hoping to see Whitney reconcile with her ex on MTV's The City, don't bank on it.

The Aussie hasn't even signed up for the second season yet.

While Whitney's other friends, Olivia Palermo and Erin Lucas, are locked in for another round of semi-real drama in the Big Apple, Jay says he has yet to commit to the show - and therefore his chance to get back with Whitney Port.

"I’m still deciding," said Jay Lyon, who is also the singer for Tamarama. "I’m still talking with our managers and working out if it’s the right decision for [Tamarama] right now. That's the main priority at the moment and always will be."

Perhaps for good reason. The Australian band, which Jay formed with Nicolas "Pottsy" Potts, played at an event with White Tie Affair and Blue October this week, and have recently inked a deal to make an album with top producer David Kahne.

They're working on their debut album starting next week.

The City star Whitney Port has split from her Australian musician boyfriend Jay Lyon, Us Weekly has confirmed. This also pretty much took place on the show.

The couple, who we saw meet on The Hills, then continued their relationship in New York on The City, decided to part ways after less than a year together.

The City creator and executive producer Adam DiVello said, “Whitney and Jay are broken up as of The City season finale. There were a few factors in their relationship that led to their split and fans saw those play out on-air."

"As we pick up where we left off when The City returns later this year, viewers will see what unfolds as we continue to follow Whitney Port and her story."

The City: Jay and Whitney

Whitney was in Vegas to celebrate her sister Ashley’s bachelorette party on Friday, and said having a relationship in front of a TV crew has been hard for her.

“It’s really difficult. Put yourself in this position. It’s hard to have an intimate relationship no matter what, whether there are cameras there or not, so it’s not the most natural thing," she said. "It kind of speeds the relationship up, and it also takes a lot of the spontaneity out of it. It's very challenging to say the least.”

While we're sad for Whitney, we think she can totally do better, as Jay Lyon was acting like more and more of an asshat in the previous couple of episodes.

Laguna Beach made hay of the lives of Orange County high schoolers.

The Hills followed cast member Lauren Conrad to L.A., where the show became a clash of good girls (like Lauren's co-worker Whitney Port) and evil schemers (Speidi).

The form of the show morphed from alleged documentary to something more like a competition, with the cast - most notably Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt - playing within the show and the press to win: though the prizes were unspecified.

So when a third MTV show in this genre was born this winter, The City, starring our friend Whitney Port, about her new life after moving from Los Angeles to New York, Heidi and Spencer's fabulous parting gift to her was their method.

Anyone who would want to be on the show as Port's friend, lover or co-worker could be in it all for himself. Soon after her arrival in New York, someone - Casting? Producers? Port? - found her a love interest; he calls himself Jay Lyon.

Both real and TV Whtiney are young, new in town and surrounded by crazies.

Her job as the star of the new series is, basically, to roll with the unexpected punches from network marionettes - or cry on camera if, say, her boyfriend decides he will get more fame or money from cheating on her. Is she up for it?

Whitney Port has posted some thoughts on Monday's episode of The City on her official blog. In "Mingling with the Commoners," plenty of tension (and more than a little class warfare) was in the air between Whitney, Olivia Palermo and Jay Lyon.

Here's what Whitney Port had to say  ...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In this week's episode of The City, we definitely had quite the range of drama. The episode began with Jay and I discussing his upcoming show over lunch.
When I mentioned that I had invited Olivia Palermo, he made a smart ass comment about roping an area off so she wouldn't have to "mingle with the commoners," (hence the title of the episode, "Mingling With The Commoners").
Erin Lucas and I met Olivia at her apartment before heading to the show.
But Olivia wasn't exactly in as big a rush as I was to get there, and by the time she was finally ready to go, Jay's band had already started playing.
Whitney Port was far from pleased with Olivia Palermo's actions.
I guess Olivia felt bad about making us late, so she got Jay Lyon a gig at a charity event she was hosting. What initially seemed like a kind gesture, however, suddenly became an awkward and uncomfortable situation when at the event, all Olivia, Nevan and friends did was make fun of Jay and his band, Tamarama.
They definitely didn't try to hide it. It's an understatement to say that Jay was more than ready to go when he finished his set!
Despite being renewed early for a second season, Whitney Port and her new reality TV series, The City, are a bit hard up for ratings this winter.
Count Jason Wahler among those not watching - and surprised about MTV's early commitment to a sophomore campaign for The Hills spinoff.
He's not sugar-coating his feelings, either.
"I can't believe it got picked up for a second season," Jason Wahler said of The City.
"I thought it was kind of a terrible show. I mean, I like Whitney, but they are trying to drag her show out way too much. I didn't know that many people who were watching [The City] to begin with, so for it to be renewed is shocking."
Ohhh, snap!
Jason Wahler and fiancee Katja Decker-Sadowski.
Incidentally, Wahler's comments were made at last night's premiere of Jordan Eubanks and Brian Drolet's 2 Dudes and a Dream. Jordan and Brian used to date Heidi Montag and Audrina Patridge, respectively. Reality TV losers of a feather ...
Not surprising: Wahler - who dated Lauren Conrad on both Laguna Beach and The Hills - is currently developing a new reality show of his own. We're sure this television event will be a huge ratings hit and critically lauded, as well.
Quite surprising: It will follow his life with Katja Decker-Sadowski, a USC tennis player who hasn't dumped his ass in nearly two years of dating! Talk about incredible.
If you watch MTV's The City (or The Hills, the similar, better-known reality show that spawned it), you will definitely appreciate this spoof Newsweek has created.
In this promo for The District, President Barack Obama narrates and discusses some of the challenges of moving to a new city, unsure of who he can trust, and taking on a stressful new job - the "opportunity of a lifetime" one could even say.
The District uses The City's theme song - The Pussycat Dolls' "On Top of the World” while mocking the narration of Whitney Port and the opening credits perfectly.
Check out the video below, which includes a sneak peek of the first episode, in which Barack butts heads with co-worker (U.S. Treasury Secretary) Tim Geithner...
As has become her custom, Whitney Port has posted some thoughts on last night's episode of her new reality TV show, The City, on her official website.
Last night's episode was called "The Truth Hurts," and for Whitney's model pal Allie - who was at the center of a messy breakup last week - it sure did.
Here's what Whitney Port had to say  ...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hey guys. So the major drama that went down in last night's episode wasn't based around relationships this time, but around body image.

Kelly Cutrone was in town for her birthday so I thought it might be fun to take the girls to her party, which might have been a bit of a mistake.

I warned them that Kelly could be a bit intimidating and in your face at times, and she definitely lived up to those expectations.

While we were sitting at a table with Kelly, she immediately launched in on Allie's tiny frame, telling her she was too skinny and asking if she needed help. Allie was so offended by the attack that she got up and left the party.

Body image issues are something that every girl today inevitably has to deal with - not by choice or habit, but by an unknown factor we must face and in turn conquer.

It is not easy to be confident in this day and age and accept what our internal makeup has planned. Nor is it easy to neglect the indulgences that make life so tasteful.

Olivia Palermo, the socialite co-star and "co-worker" of Whitney Port of MTV's The City, has actually been an aspiring actress for a few years now.

But despite what you might have read, what she does on the glamorous reality show isn't pretend. At least that's what she tells New York Magazine.

"Acting is one of the things I'm interested in, but I completely respect it as an art form that requires lots of talent, dedication and hard work," she said.

Still, getting in front of the cameras does help prepare Olivia Palermo for a life onscreen: "I've gotten so much more comfortable being in front of the cameras over the course of shooting this season. The first few days were a little bit awkward!"

Olivia Palermo, left, with Whitney Port and Erin Lucas.

"Of course, nothing feels 100 percent natural when you're being followed by a camera crew, but I've definitely acclimated. I think that in the first few episodes, that level of discomfort and awkwardness I felt really came through on camera."

Olivia Palermo says she hopes that over the rest of the season on The City, you see more of "the real her," whatever that means. Unfortunately for the young glamazon, even she's not sure what that might look like.

"I never know ahead of time what's going to end up on the show," she said. "So watching all of our stories unfold has been really exciting for me."

Wow, watching your own life as told and interpreted by somebody else. Sounds like what Lauren Conrad has been doing for years now!

Aspiring fashionista Whitney Port may be sufficiently blond and likable to pass as a reality TV star. But everyone agrees she's no Lauren Conrad.

That may be trouble, not only for Port's fledgling show, The City, a spinoff of the hugely successful The Hills, but for the whole documentary-soap genre that Lauren and her cohorts pioneered, according to the UK's Globe and Mail.

Port Pic

Lauren Conrad will return for her fifth season of The Hills this spring, but her show is clearly nearing an end: Last fall's Season Four ratings were down 25 percent, and LC herself has indicated she may be tiring of being filmed.

Therefore, The City, which was renewed for a second season this week, may hold the future of MTV's flagship franchise in its fumbling little hands.

The new show has certainly struggled to keep the format alive.

Last week, Whitney Port and her gang were getting together at an art opening, knowing that model Alli would be in the same room with the same woman who had allegedly kissed her boyfriend while she was out of town on a fashion shoot.

But as Whitney dutifully discussed the tense situation with her colleague at DVF, Olivia Palermo, and then with her Aussie rocker boyfriend, Jay Lyon, nobody really seemed all that interested in this manufactured City crisis.

Moreover, Olivia Palermo even interrupted Port midstream to tell her this was, like, TMI, a ghastly faux pas in this celebrity gossip-dependent genre.

“Jay doesn't know why [Whitney Port] cares, and Olivia doesn't care at all,” offered Jessi Cruickshank, co-host of The After Show, an MTV Canada series devoted to dissecting the lives of the apparently real people on these youth soaps.

So can MTV trust Whitney Port to carry this show - and people to watch?

Despite less than stellar ratings, Whitney Port's new and sort-of-boring MTV reality show, The City, has already been renewed, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The first season debuted less than a month ago, December 29. The Hills spinoff was greeted with much hype but hasn't delivered much in the way of ratings.

Still, bring on Season Two!

CITY GAL: Whitney Port was long hesitant to allow her private life to be on camera, but she has warmed to the concept and her show has been renewed early!

Also returning on MTV: Vanessa and Angela Simmons' Daddy's Girls. MTV ordered 20 additional episodes of spinoff Teen Cribs, which debuted as a special on January 17. Bromance, starring the great Brody Jenner, has yet to be renewed.

The City Quotes

From the beginning of The Hills, I was very career-oriented. I had had a boyfriend for the first year and a half, and I made a conscious effort to keep that to myself. I just didn't want to be that vulnerable.

Whitney Port

I just want to live a normal life.
