As we reported last month, commercial pilot Jake Pavelka, who failed to capture Jillian Harris’ heart on The Bachelorette, but made quite an impression when he "heroically" returned to rat out Wes Hayden, will star on The Bachelor this winter.

With 25 women vying for him, Jake will make his debut Monday, January 4 on ABC, starring on this special new season with the supremely cheesy title of ...

... wait for it, it's worse than you think:

The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love!

Jake Pavelka: The Bachelor

While fellow rejectees from last season Kiptyn Locke and Reid Rosenthal would have been more popular choices, we expect America will warm to Jake.

Look at the man. We've never seen a gentleman so ready for 15 minutes of fame love. Other proposed titles for the season of Jake Pavelka included:

  • The Bachelor: The Plane Truth
  • The Bachelor: Ready for (Love to) Takeoff
  • The Bachelor: Sully Who?!?
  • The Bachelor: Respect the Cockpit
  • The Bachelor: Mile High Club
  • The Bachelor: Eat it, Wes!!
  • The Bachelor: On Autopilot... of Love!

Just kidding. Well, about most of them. A couple aren't much worse than what they actually chose. We would have loved to be in the pitch meeting that day.

What do you think of Jake Pavelka as The Bachelor?

Last spring on The Bachelor, Jason Mesnick sent Molly Malaney home on an emotional season finale, popping the question to Melissa Rycroft instead.

But on the show's "After the Final Rose" special, he famously had a change of heart, breaking up with Melissa and asking Molly for a second chance.

She was shocked, but giddily accepted.

That sums up Molly's reaction to Jason's most recent request as well. He asked her to marry him and she said yes. Jason and Molly are engaged!

According to People, Jason got down on one knee in New Zealand last week, the same nation where The Bachelor finale was filmed last winter.

Molly Malaney will soon be the newest Mrs. Jason Mesnick!

Since the controversial Bachelor ending, which resulted in serious backlash against Mesnick (Molly Malaney did nothing wrong, but Jason's national TV dispatching of Melissa was scrutinized), the two have kept a very low profile.

They've also been doing the distance thing, with her living in Milwaukee and him in Seattle with his son, Ty, from his first marriage to ex-wife Hillary.

But we suspect they'll be moving in together, likely in Seattle, quite soon, now that Jason Mesnick has officially asked for Molly's hand in marriage.

The couple just returned on vacation to the site of Jason’s ill-fated first choice so that “Jason can do what he should have done in the last time he was here, and ask Molly to marry him,” says a source close to the lovebirds.

Congratulations to the couple! Click to enlarge more photos:

After the new star of The Bachelor was revealed last week, ABC received a collective "wow" reaction from fans. Just not the type of "wow" they were looking for.

"OMFG ... JAKE is the new Bachelor?!" This was the collective response here at THG headquarters. And we were far from alone in that exclamation of shock and blah.

But are we writing off Jake Pavelka too quickly?

Perhaps the backlash against the Dallas commercial pilot can be mostly attributed to greater adoration for Reid Rosenthal and/or Kiptyn Locke. Or perhaps not.

Here's a look at some of the pros and cons of Jake Pavelka. Think he'll be worth watching when The Bachelor when the long-running show returns in January?

Jake Pavelka: The Bachelor

JAKE SUCKS BECAUSE ...

  1. He sold out Wes Hayden. What a d!ck move.
  2. He was kinda angling for this the whole time.
  3. He's not Reid Rosenthal. What can you do.
  4. Jake is boring. That was why Jillian Harris rejected him on The Bachelorette. He seems like Mr. Perfect, yet only superficially. Odd choice for a star, no?

JAKE RULES BECAUSE ...

  1. He sold out Wes Hayden. Hey, it made for good TV.
  2. He really "believes in the process" for some reason.
  3. He's Chris Harrison endorsed. "I haven't spent a ton of time with him yet, but he seems like a good guy," Chris said. "I bet it's a really good season."
  4. He's open-minded about the gals' looks. "I'm looking for a heart of gold. Character. Someone that's compassionate and romantic. Passionate."
  5. Jake is hot. See pic above. No disputing this one.

Well? Will Jake Pavelka be a good Bachelor?

It's been rumored for weeks, after a contestant from the yet-to-be-taped show spilled the beans (as did our man Reality Steve), and now it's been confirmed:

Jake Pavelka will be the next star of The Bachelor!

Ben Mobbed By Girls

Brittney Gammel, a Learjet pilot, told a Tennessee radio station that the show's 14th season begins taping in November and that Jake is handing out roses.

Looks like she was right.

“I’ve dated some really amazing girls, but I’ve never been successful at finding that one girl,” he says. “I saw how the whole thing came together with Jillian. I saw how the process works and I believe in it. That’s a unique way to meet somebody.”

Jake Pavelka, who did some acting earlier in life as Jake Landrum, is best known for being a commercial jet pilot - and for being sooooo nice and handsome!

Jake Pavelka's Bachelor announcement came Tuesday night from ABC.

If you are not familiar with The Bachelor or Jake, he hails from Dallas, and was one of the contestants on The Bachelorette last season, featuring Jillian Harris.

Jake made it kind of far but failed to win Jillian's heart. He did, however, win praise - and no small amount of criticism - when he returned to the show after being sent packing to warn Jillian about fellow contestant Wes Hayden's intentions.

Basically, Jake said Wes had a girlfriend named Laurel Kagay back home and was a liar. So he's either a rat or a liar, but some people lauded Jake's heroics.

In any case, he beat out fellow Jillian castoffs Reid Rosenthal and Kiptyn Locke for the job (Ed Swiderski was picked as the winner). So ... goooo Jake!

Are you excited to see Jake Pavelka as The Bachelor?

Last season on The Bachelorette, Jillian Harris passed on three different Mr. Perfects - Jake Pavelka, Reid Rosenthal and Kiptyn Locke - in favor of a guy who was sending booty call texts to half the women in Chicago while on the show.

But while Ed Swiderski somehow prevailed then, it will soon be one of his vanquished, aforementioned competitors' time to shine as the new star of The Bachelor.

The show's new star will be announced during the October 13 episode of Dancing with the Stars, and all indications are that it will be one of the three.

This follows the long-running show's recent pattern of turning a fan favorite from the previous season into the sister series' star, dating back to when:

  • Brad Womack rejected DeAnna Pappas on The Bachelor finale
  • DeAnna rejected Jason Mesnick on The Bachelorette finale
  • Jason rejected Jillian Harris prior to The Bachelor finale
Jake, Reid, Kiptyn

Should the next Bachelor be Jake Pavelka, Kiptyn Locke or Reid Rosenthal?

It's clearly been a successful model, as The Bachelor franchise has actually increased its popularity despite being on for about 97 seasons and producing exactly one successful marriage. But who should carry the torch next? Vote below!

Who should be the next star of The Bachelor?

** UPDATE: A Tennesse woman that tried out for the show told a local radion station that JAKE PAVELKA has been named the next Bachelor!

Former star of The Bachelor Aaron Buerge, whose engagement to Helene Eksterowicz ran its course really freaking fast in 2002, completed his remarkable romantic turnaround by marrying Angye McIntosh last weekend in Springfield, Mo.

"They seemed genuinely excited to tie the knot," says a guest who saw, 35, a banker and restaurant owner, marry McIntosh, 33, a commercial insurance agent.

Tamera Mowry, Adam Housley

"Obviously, Angye was beautiful. He's got a lovely bride."

Aaron Buerge and Angye McIntosh only recently announced their engagement.

With 75 guests on hand, the two walked toward an altar fashioned from columns draped with white curtains. Following a brief exchange of vows, the newlyweds "buzzed out of the hall," says a guest, "and then were re-introduced as a couple."

Aaron Buerge and Angye McIntosh make it official.

The newly-married couple have dated for a couple of years, since they were introduced on a group outing by one of Aaron Buerge's former girlfriends.

"They are always happy to be together. They have the same goals, they have the same drive to be successful, they have the same interests, they're both very active. They love to run together, go for long walks. They love to travel."

Sounds like a match made in heaven. Will Ed Swiderski and Jillian Harris ever experience such a magical union together? All bets are currently off.

Jillian Harris and Ed Swiderski have been the subject of much speculation ever since they got engaged on The Bachelorette - and even prior to the finale.

The issue? Rumors that Ed Swiderski was two-timing a pair of women before, during and after the show (and cheating on Jillian even after getting engaged).

They appeared on Good Morning America last week to put and end to the rumors that they are breaking off their engagement and that Ed cheated on Jillian.

But rumors of Ed's philandering, shadiness and racy emails to Lindsey Johnson and Bethany Steffen won't stop, thanks to tabloids and the girls themselves.

What does Mike Fleiss, producer of The Bachelorette, have to say about it?

“They are a real couple," he told ET. "They are engaged. I am optimistic about these things. They look like a real couple. I can see them staying together."

"[Jillian Harris] is such a level-headed person. And Ed too seems like a level-headed person - maybe they will be able to survive this media blitz."

Will Jillian Harris and Ed Swiderski break up?

Asked if all the scandals on both The Bachelorette and The Bachelor (which saw Jason Mesnick drop his chosen fiancee, Melissa Rycroft, for runner-up Molley Malaney) may hurt the show, Fleiss says, "What do you think? Booyah!"

More drama is great for ratings, no doubt.

As far as The Bachelor and The Bachelorette success stories, Fleiss stated, “Our batting average is about .250 ... I think that's pretty good. The show offers no guarantees, but has worked. Ed, on Good Morning America, said, you can find love."

With 13 Bachelors, five Bachelorettes and one marriage between them, Fleiss' math is fuzzy with his .250 claim, but Jason and Molly are still dating, at least.

As for the next season of The Bachelor, Fleiss teased that the franchise may continue its recent trend of making a star out of a high-profile, previous rejectee:

“When the new season of The Bachelor premieres, look for Reid Rosenthal, Kiptyn Locke or Jake Pavelka to be the one handing out the red roses.”

Hot! Who do you think should be the next Bachelor?

At the end of the second season of The Bachelor, Aaron Buerge presented the final rose – and a ring – to elementary school psychologist Helene Eksterowicz.

But as the year 2002 came to an end, so did their romance.

Tamera Mowry, Adam Housley

That's pretty standard for The Bachelor, but at least his happy ending is at last here. Now, in 2009, Aaron Buerge has finally found a mate in Angye McIntosh.

"Long story short, I got mustard on her the first time we met," says Buerge, a restaurant owner who met McIntosh in their hometown of Springfield, Mo.

It's Aaron Buerge's first marriage – and his first proposal since his televised one seven years ago. But he's not walking down the aisle with any hesitation.

"I'd like to have a family," he says. "I'm not getting any younger. At this point, when you're in your mid-30s, the drama of dating has gone away."

So much so, in fact, that he met Angye McIntosh through an ex-flame.

"My ex-girlfriend and I thought we would get together for some beers with some other people, and that's how I met Angye," Buerge says.

Congratulations to the happy couple! We wish the best for them, as well as for the two latest, still-together pairings from The Bachelor universe, Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney and Jillian Harris and Ed Swiderski.

Now that Ed Swiderski and Jillian Harris are together, and the dust has settled after the memorable season of The Bachelorette that ended in their engagement, speculation is already swirling over who will be the next star of The Bachelor.

There's certainly no shortage of options. Here's a look at the resumes of the top two candidates (plus a bunch of others who would make for entertaining stars).

Tell us who you want to be the next Bachelor in the poll below!

  • Kiptyn Locke. He's Mr. Perfect, and was rumored to be The Bachelor heir apparent for weeks. We were surprised Kiptyn Locke wasn't announced last night, but perhaps it is only a matter of time for the Cali hunk.
  • Reid Rosenthal. Talk about finishing strong. Never considered a contender at the onset, Reid Rosenthal won over America on his last few dates and with a surprise return - and heartfelt proposal to Jillian - on the finale.
The Final Three

Ed won Jillian's affection, but Kiptyn and Reid also captured America's heart.

  • Wes Hayden. Sure, he was the most hated man in Bachelorette history. But a good part of that was ABC sabotaging him, and c'mon, you know you'd watch.
  • Jake Pavelka. May have hurt his chances with the whole charade of coming back and throwing Wes under the bus. But Jake's good-looking and sweet!
  • Michael Stagliano. Jillian's choice, for the identical twin potential.
  • Tanner Pope. Daddy can suck a mean foot. His words, not ours.

Well? Who should be the next Bachelor?

Justifiably or not, Jason Mesnick will always be remembered as the man who pulled the switcheroo on the "After the Final Rose" special of The Bachelor.

And while he is a few months removed from his stint on reality TV, Jason still must fend off Bachelor backlash for breaking up with Melissa Rycroft.

On the aforementioned special, he was seen dumping Melissa (though it was over between them prior to that), for another chance with Molly Malaney.

"I think the time when people have been negative is when, like, a girl's boyfriend just broke up with her and they look at me like it's all my fault ..."

"I'm sorry if you feel that way, but it's not me! It happens every day and it wasn't me, I promise. I didn't put him up to it," the single dad protests.

Access Hollywood's Maria Menounos Maria caught up with Jason and Molly in Turks & Caicos, where the couple was enjoying a weekend mini-vacation to celebrate the grand opening of Beaches Turks & Caicos' New Italian Village.

The Bachelor's Jason Mesnick ended up with Molly Malaney, while Melissa Rycroft, left, and Jillian Harris, both of whom went on to further reality TV stardom.

After spending months being hounded by cameras for The Bachelor, have the two gotten used to life in the spotlight? Or are they happy to be free of it?

"I don't think you can ever get used to the cameras being on you," Molly Malaney, who still lives in Milwaukee but is mulling a move to Seattle, admitted.

"We really stepped away from everything. That's not why we did the show. That's not why we did any of this," the father of four-year-old Ty added.

As has become customary, once The Bachelor ends, one of the jilted lovers lands their own show - as is the case with new Bachelorette star Jillian Harris.

So does Jason have any advice for Jillian, who made it to his final three last season before he selected Melissa and Molly as his final two?
