From the moment she was introduced on The Bachelor season premiere last night, Emily Maynard became a favorite - to win, and among viewers.

Emily was formerly engaged to Ricky Hendrick, a NASCAR driver who died in a plane crash in 2004. Right after that, she learned she was pregnant.

The beautiful single mom from Charlotte, N.C., is the quintessential Southern belle and a sweetheart to boot. Brad Womack? Immediately smitten.

She's got the story, the looks and the personality. Will she win? Here's The Bachelor's introductory Emily Maynard montage from Monday ...

With a little plastic surgery, Hugh Hefner would be all over it, but luckily for us, she doesn't look to be artificially enhanced. Except for the tan.

THG has a very interesting relationship with The Bachelor. It's neither love-hate, nor unbridled love, nor unfiltered hate. It's hard to put our finger on.

What we do know is this. For years, we've harped on what a d!ck Brad Womack is for ditching both DeAnna Pappas and Jenni Croft on the finale.

We've also harped on what contrived nonsense this show is. That's what makes Brad's return this season so oddly compelling: Its genuineness.

Brad Womack, Bachelor Cast

THE LUCKY 30: One of these women will become Mrs. Brad Womack. Or two of them will be dumped on the season finale. You never know with Brad!

For all the scripted scenes, cue cards, bogus promos and manufactured drama, Brad bailing on both Season 11 finalists was one of the franchise's best moments.

He did what he felt was right, fallout be damned. Now he's back, and for the right reasons too. Unlike that stiff Jake Pavelka, you can tell it's not about the fame.

Will he pick someone this time? Will the women trust him? For once, The Bachelor may not even need a fake scandal. An actual, real story line has written itself.

Follow the jump for THG's patented +/- recap of all the action!

In an exhaustive and not very revealing new interview with TV Guide, King of All Pimps Chris Harrison previews the new season of The Bachelor.

In Chris' defense, he can't yet reveal The Bachelor spoilers we've already posted. His job is to get people pumped for the return of Brad Womack.

That return, he says, was not easy for the star - or the women.

Chris Harrison and Brad Womack

"There's a large group out there that's like, 'Screw this guy. I hope he falls on his face and gets what coming to him,' and he does," Harrison said.

Brad, who dumped both DeAnna Pappas and Jenni Croft three years ago, faces some skeptical contestants - and Pappas and Croft - January 3.

But despite the animosity he initially feels, Harrison says an old-school Bachelor progression follows, sans the "crazy scandal" of recent seasons.

"There was no crazy scandal," Chris says. "It either happens or it doesn't ... Someone sleeps with one of our producers or they don't. Someone has a girlfriend back at home or they don't. We're always at the whim of our contestants."

So what CAN we expect from Brad Womack this winter?

"I just had a great time." - Brad Womack

The 38-year-old hunk says he did not feel the pressure to pick someone this time and "would not let anyone pressure [him] to make a decision."

But finding love was always important to Brad Womack, so when the show approached him, he felt "really, really honored to be asked again."

"I felt like I was given a second chance. I was definitely ready," says Womack. "I'm so happy to be able to say there is a very happy ending."

"I did find somebody, I did fall in love. A true love story happened."

Brad Womack rejected Jenni Croft and DeAnna Pappas on the Bachelor a few seasons ago. This time around, we have a hunch he ends up engaged at the end.

Engaged to ... well, read The Bachelor spoilers here if you're curious.

In any case, Jenni and DeAnna will return to confront Brad when his second stint as the show's leading man commences January 3. Can you say awkward?

  • Jenni Croft, Brad Womack
  • DeAnna Pappas, Brad Womack

So ... what have you girls been up to?

A previously released promo already revealed that Womack will be greeted with a slap by one of the aspiring women this season, an event that sets the tone.

Producers say many of the women will "question his intentions" and grill Brad Womack with "tough questions" despite his "radical personal transformation."

We imagine Jenni and DeAnna have a couple of things to read off the cue cards say to the man who broke their hearts. We can see some thrown drinks, too.

Brad Womack is back for a second stint as The Bachelor, and as luck would have it, ABC has already given us three full minutes of hilarious nonsense to watch.

If this looks like the kind of montage ABC will typically play at the end of the season premiere, a la "this season on The Bachelor," that's because it sort of is.

They're really trying to get out ahead of The Bachelor spoilers this time. Good luck with that, ABC, but thanks for whetting our appetites for the Jan. 3 opener:

We've already seen him get bitch-slapped, but it was worth a second look, and the rest was great. Some thoughts on The Bachelor sneak preview above ...

  • We know the video quality sucks. Bear with us until we find a better copy.
  • Was that lightning and rain? God hates Brad more than Steve Johnson.
  • Brad Womack has a staggering number of awesome plaid shirts.
  • Expect to hear "Is he scared of commitment?!" about 465 times.
  • That and every insult in the book. These writers women show no mercy.
  • Brad has done A LOT of soul searching. So much so, he says it twice.

"This is for every woman in America." - First girl out of the limo on The Bachelor this coming season, before slapping Brad Womack in a totally unscripted move

Looks like it didn't take long for America's Most Hated Bachelor to get his. You knew sparks would fly when they cast him a second time, but nothing like this.

For Brad Womack, the first night of The Bachelor (premiering January 3) was a bit like stepping into the lion's den. Here's a look at his rude awakening ...

Brad Womack couldn't find a wife on The Bachelor last time, but the former contestant is confident he'll find someone this time if people will give him a chance.

Tenley Molzahn, who was rejected on the season finale of the show herself (by that stiff Jake Pavelka), believes in Brad as well. To her, the reason is simple.

"I don't think he would enter back into round two if he wasn't sure," Tenley told People in an interview. "He got pretty butchered at the end of his last run."

Brad Womack 1.0

Brad Womack has KipTen/Lolzahn in his corner.

"I think [Brad Womack] had his chance the first time, so he knows what to expect," she said at Andre Agassi's charity event. "Who knows, though, they could throw him for a loop, but I think he has a better idea of what he's walking into."

DeAnna Pappas and Jenni Croft both got their hearts broken on the 11th season of The Bachelor. Tenley was nixed in favor of Vienna Girardi (?!) last season.

Bachelor host-pimp Chris Harrison has a lot of explaining to do.

With Brad Womack back for a second stint as The Bachelor, having notoriously nixed both DeAnna Pappas and Jenni Croft on the Season 11 finale, members of the show's fan base are skeptical at best, and up in arms at worst.

Harrison told TV Guide why we should give him a shot, though:

Hot Brad Womack

On the idea coming to fruition: "Brad called us [a year ago] wanting to come back and our reaction was: We're not sure it's right. [But] we didn't blow him off."

"At the same time, producers talking to Brad said, "This guy is for real, we believe in him." The timing seemed perfect. It's not going to be Chris L. What do we do?"

On why Chris Lambton isn't the guy: "Ali's season ended phenomenally with Chris L. as the No. 2 guy and our immediate thought was that Chris L.'s the guy."

"The more he kept thinking about it, he realized he wasn't going to be right for it. A great guy, which Chris Lambton is, doesn't necessarily make a great bachelor."

"I think he realized it, we realized it, and we [went] our separate ways."

The Bachelor Quotes

There’s still a lot of growing to do in our relationship. We will not tie the knot until I am mentally and physically prepared as well as Matt.

Shayne Lamas

It was a fairytale proposal like I’ve always dreamed about. I forgot that there [were] cameras around. In that moment, it was just Matt and I and it was the most amazing moment of my entire life.
