Move over, Larry Mendte. You’ve got creepy stalker company.

The unstable fellow who’s allegedly been stalking teen celebrities Aly and AJ Michalka via blog, email, and phone, just got arrested.

Rex Mettler, 42, was nabbed by police in Lancaster, Ohio.

The supposed stalker was tracked for weeks by the L.A. County Sheriff, and sources say the authorities had been tracking “threatening e-mails and blog entries” from Mettler’s computer. Yeah. Guy is not un-shady.

Rex Mettler has been charged with one felony count of menacing by stalking for his alleged harassment of the teen pop-singing duo Aly and AJ Michalka.

In addition to their rare blend of dance-pop magic, Aly and AJ are also actresses, appearing regularly on (shockingly) the Disney Channel.

The sisters have also appeared on General Hospital.

Philadelphia news anchor Larry Mendte was fired by CBS amid an FBI probe into allegations he hacked into the computer of his former co-anchor.

That being The Hollywood Gossip’s favorite news mess, Alycia Lane!

According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, Larry Mendte accessed Lane’s computer and proceeded to leak embarrassing stories about her to Page Six.

As a result, KYW-TV booted Mendte a few days after Alycia Lane, who was canned earlier this year, filed a lawsuit against the station over his actions.

Alycia Lane keeps popping up in the tabloids … sometimes she even makes the cover! But this time wasn’t really her fault - Larry Mendte was just stalking her.

Lane claimed that keeping Larry Mendte on the payroll at the TV station amounted to discrimination. Mendte’s lawyer, Michael Schwartz, said the newsman is cooperating with the FBI and expects to resume his career.

Don’t hold your breath, Larry.

Alycia Lane, who was fired after a tirade against a New York City cop, who she called a dyke b!tch, first raised eyebrows when she sent some bikini pics of herself to a “platonic friend” named Rich Eisen (yes, the Rich Eisen of ESPN fame) … only to have his wife, Suzy Shuster, find them and freak out. Natch.

Edwin Merino of Los Angeles, Calif., was arrested on Tuesday on charges of stalking pregnant teenage mother-to-be Jamie Lynn Spears.

Authorities in Liberty, La., say Edwin Merino wouldn’t leave 17-year-old Jamie Lynn Spears and Casey Aldridge (her fiance and baby-daddy) alone.

Who on earth would stalk this adorable, domestic couple?

The celebrity picture-taker was in the middle of a four-day visit to the small town in Mississippi where the two just bought a house.

Merino denies the charge, saying that he was some 200 feet away from the couple, using a long lens, at the time he was arrested.

“I think since I was the only [celebrity photographer] there, it was just easier for them to single me out,” he told authorities.

According to sources, Merino spent some time in jail before posting $1,143 in blood money bail and being released. Good riddance.

Looks like The Hollywood Gossip’s favorite insane news vixen, Alycia Lane, is back in the news and yes, it’s another legal matter.

Apparently, Philly newscaster Larry Mendte is currently the subject of a federal investigation for allegedly reading Alycia Lane’s emails.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Larry Mendte’s computer was seized from his home last week in an investigation - one not promoted by Lane.

This is Larry Mendte. The Philadelphia newscaster may or may not be stalking Alycia Lane right now, but he is definitely being investigated by the feds.

The story also reports that Larry showed up for work Friday, but was not on the air.

For her part, Lane was axed from their news station in January after she was arrested for assaulting a cop and calling her a “dyke b!tch.”

Alycia Lane first came to our attention as the other woman Rich Eisen had bikini pics of in his email. His wife, Suzy Shuster, was far from pleased.

Britney Spears news and gossip rarely takes a break. But you can’t deny that it’s becoming weirder - and seemingly more bogus - of late.

As reported by OK! Magazine, the struggling bipolar babe has recently found herself on the receiving end of a mysterious, obsessed fan.

One who has been sending the star threatening packages. OK! claims to have the details of what has Britney’s inner circle and security team running to the FBI.

“It started about six weeks ago with just letters being sent once a week,” a source who has supposedly seen the packages reveals to OK!.

“And then it quickly escalated to larger packages that now arrive 2-3 times a week — always to the same L.A. address, but never to Britney’s homes.”

Perhaps this is what Jamie Spears and K-Fed were discussing on the golf course. Either way, it’s a good thing the boxes never made it to the singer’s door.

What’s inside could not be good for her mental state.

“The first thing you see when you open the box is a huge, lavender-colored, battery-operated sex toy, still with the price tag on it.”

Gee whiz. Someone done send me ma sex toy, y’all!! 

Alongside the mechanical apparatus are two letters — one handwritten and one written on a computer — threatening and pornographic in nature.

“The handwritten one is on note paper and it’s written in a crazy, all-caps chicken scratch,” says the source, who says the five-page letter contains pornographic details of the writer’s fantasy exploits with Britney Spears.

NOTE: Is this loser watching music videos form like 2001 or something? No offense to Britney, but these days? Would you hit that? Come on.

Perhaps the scariest item is picture of the sender (or just some dude) — a white,  middle-aged male with stringy, greasy hair — with eyes cut out of the photo.

Oh, and it gets better, believe us. In the photo, the man appears to be squirting some sort of yellowish liquid into his open mouth. Lovely.

“It’s like something from a bad movie,” says the source. “If I hadn’t seen it myself, I wouldn’t believe it.”

“Insiders” tell OK! that the packages, which all come with a return address in the Minneapolis, Minn., area, are immediately handed over to Britney Spears‘ security team, who in turn hand them over to the FBI for review.

Stalking.

It’s a heck of a lot of fun, and sometimes, a celebrity like Hilary Duff will even be nice and let you off the hook afterwards. But in the case of one California woman, the party’s over. Restraining order style.

Actress Sandra Bullock was granted court protection against the fan she says repeatedly visited her home and tried to run over her husband, Jesse James.

Sandra Bullock testified Friday that on five different occasions, Marcia Valentine (pictured) left in her yard palm fronds adorned with “weird signs” and “pieces of animal fur.”

Oooh. Holly Madison and PETA aren’t gonna be happy ’bout that.

Orange County Superior Court Judge Thomas Borris said he found “clear and convincing evidence” of stalking and issued a three-year restraining order.

The ruling prohibits Marcia Valentine from contacting or coming within 500 yards of Bullock, Jesse James or his three children from a previous marriage.

The judge has also given the Crash star and her hubby permission to record any phone calls or videotape Valentine if she were to violate the order.

Valentine did not attend the hearing. She may have moved on and taken up stalking some other famous woman, such as Ricki Lake.

Valentine, 45, of Huntington Beach, was arrested in April for investigation of assault with a deadly weapon after trying to run over James with a car.

She remains free on $25,000 bail pending a May 22 hearing. Prosecutors are still reviewing the case and have not decided whether to file charges.

Bullock said that after Valentine was spotted April 22 outside the couple’s home in Sunset Beach, James went outside and tried to write down the woman’s license plate when she aimed her Mercedes-Benz at him.

“I saw him go behind her car to get the license number. She got angry,” said Bullock, who was also harassed by another crazy dude last year.

James, the former host of the reality TV hit Monster Garage, was not hurt.

TMZ has learned that a woman was arrested in front of the Beverly Hills mansion of Tom Cruise after someone inside the estate tipped off police.

According to police sources, and relayed to us by TMZ, 32-year-old Emily Diane Leatherman, a known transient, was arrested in front of the movie star’s home for receiving known stolen property and for violating a court order. It is not yet clear which court order was violated.

The crazy thing? This isn’t the first time that Leatherman - who is currently being held at a Beverly Hills jail on $45,000 bail - has been in the news for stalking!

Last year, a judge ordered her to stay at least 500 feet away from John Cusack after the actor claimed that she showed “an unusual interest by stalking, throwing a long letter of interest over my fence in bags with rocks and screwdrivers inside.”

Always classy. Leatherman insisted that she was only trying to contact famous people to have them tell her tale of being sexually assaulted and harassed.

Yeah, yeah. That’s probably what Dominick Giordano said when he got busted for stalking Michelle Branch earlier this week. It’s the oldest story in the book, lady.

We’re just glad that little Asian cutie Suri Cruise and her brainwashed mother, Katie Holmes, weren’t exposed to any harm as a result of this lunatic.

Singer Michelle Branch, who is apparently still around, doesn’t take any crap from the audience. Well, at least not when it includes people who have been stalking her.

The “Everywhere” singer had an audience member arrested during a concert in Sheboygan, Wis., Monday after recognizing a man who has allegedly been following and harassing her.

As Michelle Branch took the stage to perform an encore at the Stefanie H. Weill Center for the Performing Arts, the cute singer reportedly froze up before begging security to apprehend 32-year-old Dominick Giordano.

He allegedly tried to bolt, but was quickly arrested by Sheboygan Police and cited for disorderly conduct. His mug shot appears below, next to a hot picture of Branch. Yeeeah. He’s not creepy or anything. 

Authorities say Giordano has been following the “Everywhere” singer around the country since 2003 and regularly sends her letters and videos.

In the police report, cops say Giordano has previously “managed to lie his way backstage” at Branch’s concerts, “sneak into after-concert parties” and also “allegedly lunged at Ms. Branch during an autograph signing event.”

Man, if Michelle Branch is getting harassed this bad, you can imagine what bigger celebs such as Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera have to deal with.

According to TMZ, Branch was “scared” by a “particularly disturburbing” incident, and expressed concern for the safety of her 19-month-old daughter, who was also at the show.

Giordano was released after posting a $150 bond. This is easily one of the weirdest stories of the week. Who stalks Michelle Branch? Who’s next, Jeff Goldblum? Oh, wait…

Our counterparts at TMZ have learned that actor Jeff Goldblum has filed a restraining order against a 44-year-old woman, claiming that she has shown up to his house “unannounced and uninvited 20 times in the past month and over 50 times in the last three months.”

In court documents regarding the stalking, filed yesterday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Goldblum claims a woman has:

“Sent harassing and threatening letters, stalked me at various locations, physically attacked my employee and accosted me.”

No word on whether the alleged stalker is friends with Naomi Campbell.

According to the documents, Linda Ransom (who, we have to say, has a great name for a crazy stalker) met Goldblum at an acting school in L.A. where Goldblum teaches.

She then began showing up at various locations where he performed with his jazz band, The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra.

In a statement included in the court documents, Ransom offered the explanation that she was just trying to get Goldblum to “support my efforts to complete my research and screenplay as accurate [sic] as possible.”

Riiight. That’s what we told the cops before Kristin Cavallari got a restraining order on us. We know from experience, Linda, that you’ve gotta do a lot better than that.

This just goes to show that it’s not just the beautiful young starlets like Hilary Duff who have to deal with stalking. Established, but lower-profile acting stars like Goldblum and Drake Hogestyn have to cope with wackos too.

Hilary Duff must be in the forgiving, holiday mood.

Despite a difficult break-up with Joel Madden, the pair has found common ground in letting one dude who stalked them skate free from a restraining order.

TMZ obtained documents filed Monday in Los Angeles County Superior Court by the star duo’s lawyers, which requests a dismissal of the restraining orders against celebrity photographer David Joseph Klein.

In October, Duff and Madden filed temporary restraining orders against Klein and his roommate Maksim Miakovsky, an 18-year-old Russian emigre.

The former couple feared for their safety and requested that a judge order the alleged stalkers to stay at least 100 yards away from Duff, her sister Haylie, Madden and his twin brother Benji.

Of course, now that Madden is dating Nicole Richie, future stalkers will probably be glad to stay away, lest they wish to get run over by a pill-popping bad driver.
