Derek Jeter will retire at the end of the 2014 MLB season, and with the year's halfway point upon us, tributes to the legendary Yankees shortstop have begun rolling in.

Earlier today, Nike unveiled a 2-minute commercial set to air during Tueday's All Star Game in which fans ranging from Spike Lee to Carmelo Anthony to a group of begrudgingly respectful Bostonians all tip their caps in tribute to El Capitan.

A group of Mets even join in the show of respect. Fortunately, their faces are digitally blurred so as to keep their lockers un-vandalized by teammates.

As for Mr. Met, himself, well...he probably should've thought twice before appearing in the spot. Dude's got the world's most recognizable head.

Check out the video above to see a wide array of sports fans show their love for Jeets.

A young David Luiz fan wrote a nice letter to Brazil's maligned captain after the home team's disastrous World Cup loss, reminding us that it's only a game.

Not only that, her touching note served as a needed antidote to some other fans who, you could say, took Brazil's thrashing by Germany a bit seriously.

After his team's loss - and what many felt was a poor effort by him individually - Luiz received the letter from nine-year-old Ana Luz, which he shared on Twitter:

  • David Luiz Fan Letter
  • D. Luiz

“Hi David Luiz," the letter reads.

"My name is Ana Luz. I saw all of the Brazil games in the World Cup and I liked it a lot watching you play. I think that you don’t need to be sad because you played well and did the best you could."

"You were a great captain. Life is like this, sometimes people lose and sometimes people win but people only need to be happy. David Luiz, you are my champion."

The World Cup may be over (There's always 2018, Argentina!) but for Rihanna, the party is still going strong.

Rihanna's been rooting for Germany since day one, so naturally the famously sports-obsessed singer flew to Brazil for the big final match of the world's biggest sports tournament.

Fortunately for us, she shared some highlight via Twitter and Instagram:

Rihanna Celebrates Victory!
RiRi parties with the German soccer team after their World Cup victory. She'd been rooting for ze Germans from the start of the tournament.

Yes, when you're Rihanna, you don't just root for your favorite team from the stands - you take them out after the game and show them how to party!

RiRi described partying with GMNT as "the best day of my life" on Twitter. We're sure it was a pretty memorable occasion for the players too.

Was it hot yesterday in Brazil?

Or was it just Shakira?

Donning a red bodysuit and shaking her truth-telling hips, The Voice judge helped close out the 2014 World Cup by performing "La la la (Brazil 2014)" on the field pitch prior to Germany playing Argentina in the final match.

The German would go on to win 1-0, but many viewers would go on to only remember the sight of Shakira singing, shaking and gyrating in front of thousands in the stands and millions watching at home.

Watch the sexy samba performance now and beware of getting drool on your keyboard:

We already knew Shakira was into hips, but who knew she has such a passion for feet as well?!?

Ian Thorpe has come out as gay.

The five-time Gold Medalist and 11-time world champion made the admission today in an interview with British TV personality Sir Michael Parkinson.

Ian Thorpe and Sir Michael Parkinson

Speculation over Thorpe’s sexuality first surfaced in 2009, two years after Thorpe ended a supposedly romantic relationship with fellow swimmer Amanda Beard.

But Beard reportedly told her agent later on that she and Thorpe were only ever friends and the relationship was concocted to shield his true sexual preference.

Kim Kardashian's ex-boyfriend Reggie Bush scored a touchdown Saturday, tying the knot with his fiancee and Kim Kardashian klone Lilit Avagyan!

Guy clearly has a type. Not hating, just saying.

Lilit Avagyan, Reggie Bush

Choosing July 12 for their wedding day (as did Katherine Webb and AJ McCarron), the duo got hitched at a ceremony at The Grand Del Mar in San Diego, Calif.

The 29-year-old NFL football player and Avagyan, who have been together since 2011, are already parents of a 14-month-old daughter, Briseis.

Armenian native Lilit Avagyan, 26, is a professional dancer.

Bush starred at USC and is currently a running back for the Detroit Lions, though he never quite lived up to the superstar hype he earned upon going pro.

Still, he famously dated Kim Kardashian for three years, which is like the equivalent of the Celebrity Gossip Heisman Trophy, before they split in 2010.

Katherine Webb and AJ McCarron have tied the knot!

The 2012 Miss Alabama, who became a quasi-celeb when ESPN announcer Brent Musberger ogled her during a football game, wed the recent NFL draft pick.

She tied the knot with the former University of Alabama quarterback at the United Methodist Church in Orange Beach, Alabama, on Saturday afternoon.

The 25-year-old Webb walked down the aisle with her father, Alan, and was attended by 10 bridesmaids, including her sister, Laurie, at the family affair.

The groom's best man was his brother Corey.

McCarron, 23, started dating Webb (actually an Auburn graduate) in 2012, and a close-up shot of her at the national title game in 2013 put her on the map.

It's happened. Miami's LeBronaissance is at an end and the LeBrodigal son is returning home.

Yes, in case you're not fluent in Bad Pun, LeBron James is returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers after opting out of his contract with the Miami Heat.

While LeBron expressed his thoughts on the dissolution of The Heatles in an eloquent essay he posted online today, the Internet reacted to the news the best way it knows how: memes!

LeBron vs. Bosh and D-Wade
We think it's safe to say Dwyane is feeling blindsided today. Bosh's raptor-like reaction face is perfect.

The jokes range from the obvious (Miami fans gearing up to set fire to LeBron jerseys), to the equally obvious but still hilarious (Chris Bosh's moth agape in ostrich-like horror).

Jump into the gallery above to mourn or rejoice as befits your NBA loyalty.

Hey, either way, at least now the King's teammates will know how to spell their first names. Right, Dwyane Wade?

Cue up Diddy, Cleveland fans: LeBron James is coming home!

The superstar free agent announced the news himself today in a personal essay for Sports Illustrated, spurning the Miami Heat and other clubs anxious for his very impressive services.

Of the fans in Cleveland and his native region in general, James writes:

"I want to give them hope when I can. I want to inspire them when I can. My relationship with Northeast Ohio is bigger than basketball. I didn’t realize that four years ago. I do now."

LBJ in SI

James went on to thank everyone in the Heat organization, emphasizing that his decision to leave was all about the opportunity in Cleveland and no reflection of any kind on anyone in Miami.

Well, that didn't last long.

Hot soccer fan Axelle Despiegelaere landed a L'Oreal commercial after World Cup fans drooled over the Belgian beauty while she was rooting on her team in Brazil.

The partnership proved to be short-lived, however, as L'Oreal axed Axelle after a controversial Facebook photo went viral.

Axelle Despiegelaere Hunting Photo

In the wake of the Kendall Jones hunting photo scandal, a picture of Axelle posing with a gazelle that she shot during an African hunting trip proved to be a deal breaker for the cosmetics giant.

Even worse than the photo itself, might be the 17-year-old's attempt at humor in the caption:
