NBA player Jason Collins came out as gay in Sports Illustrated today, igniting a flurry of discussion and receiving an outpouring of support online.
"I didn't set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport. But since I am, I'm happy to start the conversation," he said.
And start it he did. With a few exceptions (Mike Wallace), the vast majority of reactions to Jason Collins' coming out have been positive.
