Sailing gold medalist Andrew "Bart" Simpson has died.

The 72-foot-long sailboat he was on capsized in San Francisco Bay. He was practicing for the upcoming America's Cup with the Swedish team Artemis Racing.

He was just 36 years old.

Simpson was reportedly trapped under the boat for 10 minutes. Another sailor involved in the wreck was injured. The rest of the 13 people on the crew were fine.

He won one Olympic gold medal and one silver medal during his career.

"The entire Artemis team is devastated by what happened," CEO Paul Canyard says in a statement. "Our heartfelt condolences are with Andrew's wife and family."

Police have labeled the beating of Nick Porto and Kevin Atkins a hate crime after the gay couple suffered serious injuries at the hands of Knicks fans near Madison Square Garden on Sunday night.

The incident took place after the Knicks lost to the Pacers in the second round of the NBA Playoffs.

Explained Porto on Facebook:

"A group of Knicks fans were upset about the game and they just decided to ‘fag bash’ the two of us. They called us f----ts. They made fun of my jeans - I made the jeans myself, for that day...

"Fists started flying. I was on the ground, and the only thing I could do, I reached out and grabbed someone's hair."

Tim Tebow can't catch a break. Not even in his adopted hometown.

With the quarterback having been released last month by the Jets and now looking for a job, a contingent of Jacksonville Jaguars fans have started a website that urges ownership NOT to sign the former Florida Gator.

Tebow

It's called Evenifhesreleased.com, a reference to the response given by new Jaguars GM David Caldwell when asked Tebow in January:

"I can't imagine a scenario where he'd be a Jaguar, even if he's released."

This kiss cam breakup from a recent Fresno Grizzlies minor league baseball game is awesome. Whether it's legit or not is more of an open question.

You're surely familiar with the sports staple, in which cameramen zero in on couples in hopes of eliciting a public kiss on the big stadium scoreboard.

In this case, however, what the cameras captured was wholly unintended:

More engrossed in his phone than his date (or the game), this one guy got a dirty look from his GF ... then a dirtier look ... then eventually a drink in his face.

And then she stormed off. Funny stuff. But you tell us ...

A rogue squirrel has become a viral sports star for his base-running skills.

The rebellious rodent amusingly and daringly made a move onto the field during a recent college baseball game between Kansas and Wichita State.

He ran the bases with surprising proficiency, but the critter was eventually "caught stealing" by Tyler Baker, who scooped him up in a batting helmet.

No word if they counted this toward Baker's fielding percentage:

Titus Young, a standout for Boise State who last played in the NFL for the Detroit Lions, accomplished an impressive feat on Sunday.

He was arrested on Sunday. Twice. In a 14 hour span.

Titus Young Mug Shots

Young was first pulled over just after midnight in Southern California when police spotted him making an illegal left turn. He was booked for driving under the influence and released a short while later.

The latest hilarious receipt to go viral comes from Vancouver, B.C.

Specifically, from a rabid fan of the city's NHL team, the Canucks.

A picture of the receipt, posted to Reddit, apparently shows what happens in Vancouver when a Stanley Cup playoff game goes down to the wire ...

Hockey Receipt

The receipt, originally for a large pizza for pick-up with extra chicken, was nixed and turned into a delivery because "canucks have tied game."

As such, obviously, "[customer] cannot leave house to pickup."

It's safe to say Matt Kemp is anything but a sore loser.

Sunday night, after getting swept by the San Francisco Giants, the Dodgers outfielder didn't forget about a promise he made to third base coach Tim Wallach.

Moments after the game, he made his way to the first row of stands because he had promised to sign an autograph for a terminally ill Dodgers fan, Joshua Jones.

But Kemp ended up doing a lot more than that:

Taking off his cap, jersey and cleats, the 28-year-old baseball superstar handed them all to this 19-year-old suffering from inoperable brain tumors.

Rory Bushfield has won the first (and presumably last) season of ABC's Splash.

Spoiler alert? Hope you didn't have that DVR'd and waiting for you tonight.

Rory Bushfield Photo

The three finalists - Bushfield, Nicole Eggert and Drake Bell - went all in Tuesday.

After the first round of dives left Bell eliminated by the judges' scores, Eggert and Bushfield dove one final time for the win, decided by an audience vote.

It was Bushfield, a Canadian-born skiing champion, who emerged victorious.

An impressive dive by the 29-year-old, featuring two and a half front flips and entering the water head first, was enough to seal the deal over Eggert.

Not as impressive as Katherine Webb bikini photos, but close.

Jason Collins became the first openly homosexual athlete in major American team sports when he came out as gay in Sports Illustrated last month.

To hear Charles Barkley tell it, the operative word is "openly."

The response to Collins’ decision has been overwhelmingly positive, but the concept of playing with a gay player is still a major talking point in sports.

Barkley said on The Dan Patrick Show that he has played with 3-4 gay men during his 16-year career, and those are just the players he knows about.
