Manti Te'o has spoken out about the Lennay Kekua death hoax, as it's now been verified that the Notre Dame linebacker was never dating a Stanford student by that name last year.

But the Heisman Trophy finalist is denying reports that he played a role in duping America, instead releasing a statement that says he fell victim to someone on the Internet.

Manti Te'o statement

"This is incredibly embarrassing to talk about, but over an extended period of time, I developed an emotional relationship with a woman I met online. We maintained what I thought to be an authentic relationship by communicating frequently online and on the phone, and I grew to care deeply about her," Te'o said.

"To realize that I was the victim of what was apparently someone's sick joke and constant lies was, and is, painful and humiliating.

In one of the stranger, more elaborate death hoaxes to hit the Internet and way beyond, a new report suggests Notre Dame star linebacker Manti Te’o's girlfriend did not die this year, as had been previously reported.

In fact, she never even existed.

Some quick background:

Fake Twitter Photo
  • Te’o was a Heisman Trophy finalist who led Notre Dame to an undefeated regular season.
  • On September 12, news broke that his girlfriend, Lennay Kekua, passed away from leukemia. The story became national news three days later after Te’o starred in an Irish victory and said Kekua encouraged him to play.
  • Kekua's funeral took place on September 22, with Te’o not in attendance and with the above message displayed across television screens, supposedly proving that this was in accordance with his late girlfriend's wishes.

John Rocker, an outspoken former relief pitcher for the Atlanta Braves, has made his feelings on any potential gun control laws very clear:

The southpaw is against them, explaining why in a column for World Net Daily.

Rocker

"Mr. Obama wants to severely neuter the Second Amendment and disarm the law-abiding citizens of this nation, a similar act of tyrants throughout the 20th century such as Stalin, Mao and Hitler," Rocker writes.

"Absolute certainties are a rare thing in this life, but one I think can be collectively agreed upon is the undeniable fact that the Holocaust would have never taken place had the Jewish citizenry of Hitler's Germany had the right to bear arms and defended themselves with those arms."

Kevin Durant, one of NBA's renowned good guys, has come under scrutiny for his on-court language and demeanor ... from his own grandmother.

After his Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Phoenix Suns Monday, Durant's grandma congratulated him on the win via text, with a side of scolding:

Durant Text

"Kev kev stop cussing so much they be showing u when u do," she wrote.

His reply: "Haha sorry grandma I be so emotional, I love u ..."

Durant then shared a screenshot of the exchange with his 960,000 Instagram followers on Tuesday, with the appropriate caption "sorry grandma lol."

ESPN is sorry. But Brent Musburger is not.

The 73-year old announcer made major headlines last week when he gushed over Katherine Webb, the gorgeous girlfriend of Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron.

But while ESPN issued an apology for what some considered to be Musburger's creepy comments, the long-time reporter sees no need to backtrack.

"Individuals say what individuals say. And corporations do what corporations do," Musburger told TMZ. "Obviously, they felt it was the right thing for them to do."

Webb, meanwhile, has said she was "flattered" by the praise and didn't require any sort of mea culpa on the announcer or network's end.

And men around the world don't either, of course, as all this attention will give them a chance to ogle Katherine Webb bikini photos next month in Sports Illustrated. Talk about a win-win-win!

In a word: WOW.

During a recent Atlanta Hawks fan, a season ticket holder was chosen at random to win a major prize by sinking a half-court shot. Pretty basic giveaway for a professional basketball team, right?

We've seen in a million times?

Well, trust us, you've NEVER seen a half-court shot end up like this one. It seems to defy the rules of gravity and physics. Watch now and see what we mean:
