Sharknado 2 has a new release date and a new poster.

And New York may soon be in the market for a new towering figure.

Syfy has announced that the wildly-anticipated follow-up to last summer's unexpected smash will premiere on Wednesday, July 30 at 9/8c, one day earlier than initially scheduled.

It has also unveiled the first official piece of promotional art - and the Statue of Liberty may wanna take cover...

Be very afraid, television viewers: Sharknado 2 will soon be unleashed inside a small screen near you!

The sequel to last year's viral sensation - aptly titled Sharknado 2: The Second One - will first air on Syfy on July 31 at 9/8c.

Sharknado 2 started filming last month in New York City, with original stars Tara Reid and Ian Ziering on board for another round (not exactly like they had to clear their schedules).

It's bigger than Shark Week. It's scarier than Sharkeisha.

It's Sharknado 2 - and it's coming for all of us!

The follow-up to last year's totally awesome Syfy blockbuster - which nearly broke Twitter and which starred Ian Ziering and Tara Reid, along with some really angry sharks and an ecological nightmare - begins shooting next week.

It will bring back Ziering and Reid as Fin and April, respectively, with Syfy announcing last night a slew of new cast additions.

Sharknado 2 (official sequel title Sharknado 2: The Second One) is coming this July, and original stars Tara Reid and Ian Ziering will both be partaking.

Paul Bales, from the company behind Sharknado, said of their returns: "We're thrilled to be able to bring back the talent that made Sharknado a hit."

Can lightning strike twice for the surprise SyFy hit?

"I don't know, but it's a scientific fact that you're more likely to be killed by lightning than by a shark. This film will have lightning and sharks, so that's got to count for something."

Nicely played.

SyFy's executive producer Thomas Vitale called Sharknado an "extraordinary 'perfect storm' which captured the attention of movie fans across the globe."

Tara Reid was a guest on Discovery Channel's Shark Week talk show this week, and wow, did she enlighten us with her discussion of whale sharks.

"So I look up 'sharks' on the Internet," the Sharknado star said.

"Today I was like, all right, I don't want to, like, really sound stupid when I do this show today, like... so I learned a little education on sharks."

"I see 'whale sharks,' so I'm like, that must mean that a whale and a shark have sex. And then I think, 'Well, how do a whale and a shark have sex?'"

She was asked if there was a video online.

"No, there is a thing called whale sharks, and then I realized whales are mammals and sharks are animals, so they have nothing to do with each other."

With a Sharknado sequel already in the works, Tara Reid is down to reprise her role in the follow-up to this month's so-bad-it's-amazing Syfy movie hit.

Whether she's even asked to is a different matter, however.

Tara Reid in Sharknado Picture

Producers had a meeting last week to discuss plans for the New York-based Sharknado sequel, and they are drawing up a wish list of actors.

They want Ian Ziering back from the original and ... that's it.

Tara played the estranged wife of shark-slaughtering Ian - he killed a ton! - in the movie and even survived a massive shark attack in her own home.

Despite that feat, rumor has it that she's out of the mix.

It's official, Sharknado has become the big hit of the summer. When I wrote this Sharknado review, I'll admit that I thought it would be talked about for a day or so and then forgotten.

I could not have imagined it would blow up like it has. It completely took over Twitter when it aired and already Sharknado sequels are being talked about.

Now? Well now Sharknado is hitting the big screen!

That's right, Ian Ziering and Tara Reid will finally make it back into theaters when Regal Entertainment Group shows the SyFy original on approximately 200 of their theaters on August 2nd at midnight.

Forget Superstorm Sandy. Sharknado is coming to the Big Apple.

Syfy has officially given the green light to the rumored sequel to last week’s Twitter-tastic nonsense starring Ian Ziering and Tara Reid, who will be back for Round 2.

This time, the fish frenzy will descend upon New York City.

“Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm - on television. Fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel,” Syfy EVP Thomas Vitale said.

“What we can guarantee is that Sharknado 2 will be lots of fun."

A Sharknado sequel is one step closer to becoming a reality.

With star Tara Reid already on board for a follow-up to last Thursday's Syfy movie, screenwriter Thunder Levin now says he'd gladly pen another film in this suddenly popular franchise.

"It was like going to see Snakes on a Plane opening night in the theater," Levin told Mashable of the social media reaction. "Twitter users were yelling at the screen, shouting out lines and throwing virtual popcorn. It was great fun."
