The Carrie Diaries has cast its Samantha Jones in Lindsey Gort.

The relative newcomer has landed the role of the outspoken BFF of Annasophia Robb's Carrie Bradshaw in the CW drama's upcoming Season 2.

Of course, the role was made famous by Kim Cattrall in HBO's hit series Sex and the City, and they've certainly found a dead-ringer in this youngster:

Blame it on the economy, the contrived storylines, the self-centered characters or a lovable green ogre.

But Sex and the City 2 tanked at the box office this weekend, failing to even bump Shrek Forever After from the top spot.

The much-hyped sequal pulled in $32.1 in three days, far below the $56.8 million the original opened with in 2008.

The film, which takes the core four to the Middle East, has received few positive reviews; The New York Times said it "isn't much fun at all," while USA Today slammed it as "tasteless." On Rotten Tomatoes, only 15% of critics polled said they liked the flick.

THG's take? There are only so many times you can find Samantha's sexual puns witty; while focusing on a quartet of rich, successful, whining women tends to get old.

At this point, the franchise is more about fashion (a lot of which you can find in our Style Store!) than anything else. But is that enough to garner a third film? And would you even wanna see one?

Sound off now, as you check out scenes from Sex and the City 2 below...

The stars of Sex and the City 2 graced the red carpet in New York City last night at the premiere of their highly anticipated sequel.

But let's be honest: the true attraction at this event (and the movie itself, for many fans) was the fashion on display.

Sarah Jessica Parker donned a fluorescent yellow Valentino gown at Radio City Music Hall, while John Corbett went with a Ralph Lauren Black Label suit. Purchase these looks for yourself in our THG Style Store and decide below who looked best...

Sex and the City was a wonderful, successful series on HBO. It filled an important niche and made viewers both laugh and cry for several seasons.

It also ended perfectly, with Carrie in the arms of her dream man, Mr. Big.

The Sexy and the City movie, conversely? Utterly pointless. Nothing happened, aside from contrived drama between Carrie and Big that cheapened the conclusion of the show.

Still, the movie made gobs of money at the box office, which made a sequel inevitable. It comes out on May 27 and the studio has released the first extended trailer for Sex and the City 2.

You'll never believe this, but it features more double entendres than golf announcers could utter at Tiger Woods (Example: Carrie asks Samantha how she can swallow so many pills. Her witty response: "Have you met me?"), along with more contrived drama between Carrie and Big, this time involving Aidan Shaw.

Check out the preview now, but don't blink or you'll miss the cameo by Miley Cyrus near the end of it:

Ready to get Carried away, Sex and the City fans?

The first official trailer for this movie's sequel has been released.

The preview doesn't give away many plot details, but it's set to Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' "Empire State of Mind," while Carrie appears to still be in love with Big; Charlotte is busy with motherhood; and Samantha is, of course, searching for men.

For some reason, the trailer also depicts the women riding a camel through the desert.

The sequel - which includes a non-speaking cameo by Miley Cyrus - comes out on May 28.

Based on set shots from Sex and the City 2, the movie's character will at least flash back to the 1980s during the sequel.

Based on the official poster for the film, though, Carrie Bradshaw in looking to the future.

Sex and the City 2 Scene

Sarah Jessica Parker is featured on the first poster released for this highly-anticipated flick, which comes out in May. What do you make of her gold-themed, futuristic look? Fashion forward or fashion folly?

While older movie-goers are excited for the Sex and the City sequel, the tween set can't wait to see Miley Cyrus in The Last Song.

You can check out that movie's poster now, too.
