Douglas, who cited fellow Mississippi native William Faulkner as a literary influence, was actually just the pen name of Josephine Ayres Haxton.

She took a pseudonym to guard the privacy of her family.

Very sad news today out of the sports world.

Pascual Perez, who pitched in the Major Leagues for 11 seasons and played for such teams as the Montreal Expos and New York Yankees, was stabbed to death during a home invasion in the Dominican Republic. He was 55.

Multiple news outlets have confirmed the death, with some speculating Perez was targeted for the $2,000 MLB pension he recently received.

Perez, who also spent time with the Pirates and Braves, posted a 3.43 ERA in 1983 and made the All-Star team that season. At the time of his murder, he was receiving dialysis for liver failure.

A father of five, Perez's two brothers, Carlos and Melido, also played professional baseball.

Sylvia Kristel, an actress who rose to fame as arguably the first adult film star, has died at age 60. Cancer claimed the star's life after a long battle.

"She died during the night during her sleep," her agent confirmed.

Sylvia Kristel was admitted to a hospital in July after suffering a stroke, though she was first diagnosed with throat and lung cancer roughly ten years ago.

He passed away just before 1 a.m. Saturday in Biloxi, Miss., according to reports.

Beano Cook, one of the country's most well-known college football experts, has passed away from unknown causes. He was 81.

A University of Pittsburgh graduate, Cook worked for 10 years as a sports publicist for that school before eventually catching on as an ABC studio commentator in 1982.

He then joined ESPN in 1986 and was given the nickname "Cardinal of College Football" due to his vast knowledge of the sport. Most recently, Cook joined ESPN's Ivan Maisel on a weekly podcast.

Alex Karras, an NFL lineman who starred with the Detroit Lions in the 1960s, then went on to a successful acting career, has died. He was 77 years old.

Karras, who had recently suffered kidney failure, died at home in Los Angeles surrounded by family members, said Craig Mitnick, his attorney.

Alex starred in the sitcom Webster and famously punched a horse in the 1974 comedy Blazing Saddles, among other acting achievements.
