Hugo Chavez, the firebrand President of Venezuela, has died at the age of 58.

Unlike last week's erroneous reports of his demise, this time it's the real deal.

Vice President Nicolas Maduro, who reported that Chavez was battling for life earlier this week, confirmed that he lost the battle about 45 minutes ago.

Maduro said that Hugo Chavez died at 4:25 p.m. Tuesday.

"We must unite now more than ever," said Maduro, fighting back tears and flanked by cabinet ministers, calling on Venezuelans to remain "peaceful and respectful."

DJ Ajax has died. The celebrated Australian DJ and electronic producer Adrian Thomas, better known by his nickname in club circles, was killed in a road accident.

He was 41.

Thomas also a founding member of the Bang Gang DJs crew and was co-founder and director of the label Sweat It Out, which had a monster hit in 2010.

Bonnie Franklin, an actress best known for her role on the sitcom One Day at a Time, has passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 69 years old.

Family members confirmed the passing today, which took place at the redhead star's home.

Adam Strange, an award-winning filmmaker from New Zealand, was killed last night via a shark attack off the coast of his native country. He was 46 years old.

The incident took place about 200 yards offshore from Muriwai Beach, according to NBC News.

New Zealand Police Inspector Shawn Rutene says witnesses called authorities upon witnessing the attack, but lifeguards could not reach Strange in time to save his life.

Dan Toler, a guitarist best known for his run with the Allman Brothers Band in the 1970s and 1980s, has passed away. He was 65 years old.

The musician died Monday due to complications from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, better known as ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease. He had been suffering from the illness for two years.

Toler joined the famous group in 1979 and played with it on three albums.

By the end of his life, however, the artist was unable to speak or play his beloved instrument.

Today, February 24, is Steve Jobs' birthday. The visionary Apple co-founder, who died of pancreatic cancer in October 2011, would have turned 58 today.

The man responsible for technology innovations that shape our lives on a daily basis remains as beloved as any figure in the history of American business.

Steve Jobs wasn't merely a creative genius far ahead of his time, but was revered as a dear friend and an inspiring mentor by those who knew him.

He was also a showman who could give a keynote address like no other.

Whether he was introducing the world to a new product idea or discussing ones already created, he turned speeches and interviews into art forms.

Kenneth Cherry Jr., an aspiring rapper known as Kenny Clutch, was one of the victims in Thursday's fiery predawn Las Vegas shooting and car accident.

His attorney, Vicki Greco, called his death was "shocking." She said:

"Out of everyone I know in the industry, there is no way I would have expected to find that he was shot on the Las Vegas Strip in such an aggressive manner."

Cherry had two children, she said, and "didn't have a [criminal] record or a history. He was just a good kid trying to make it and be a good father."

Kenny Clutch is from Oakland, Calif., and lived in Las Vegas.

A shooting and a fiery crash left three dead - including rapper Kenneth Cherry Jr., a.k.a. Kenny Clutch - in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip on Thursday.

Police are scrambled to find out who triggered the carnage as the bloodshed closed the Strip for about a block and a half around some of its biggest draws.

Instead of the usual sights of Sin City, tourists reportedly gasped at the tragic sight of a wrecked Maserati, a burned-out taxi and four other vehicles.

One of those killed was Cherry, also known as Kenny Clutch, his attorney Vicki Greco said. Cherry is from Oakland, Calif., and lived in Las Vegas.

Cherry's death was shocking, Greco said.
