August Schellenberg, a Canadian Mohawk actor known for portraying Native Americans on the big and small screens, has died of cancer at age 77.

He died peacefully in Dallas surrounded by his loved ones.

Born in Montreal to a Swiss father and a Mohawk mother, he used his native background and National Theatre School of Canada training to a prolific career.

Schellenberg portrayed Native American mentor Randolph in all three Free Willy movies, and scored an Emmy nomination for his role in HBO's Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee.

It was actually the third time that Schellenberg portrayed the famed Native American figure Sitting Bull, a part which the actor called his favorite role.

He is survived by his wife, actress Joan Karasevich, and three daughters.

Lisa Robin Kelly has lost her battle with substance abuse.

The actress, best known for her role as Eric's older sister on That 70s Show, died last night while asleep inside a rehab facility. She was 43 years old.

According to Kelly's agent, Lisa voluntarily checked herself in to a treatment center just last week to tackle an ongoing problem with alcohol.

"She had been fighting demons for a while and finally lost her battle," the agent tells TMZ.

Kelly has indeed faced numerous personal issues over the past couple of years.

She was arrested in November for assaulting her estranged husband, who insiders say once beat her in order to obtain residual money from her sitcom.

He served 35 days in jail for the incident and Lisa filed for divorce in July.

Friends and co-stars of The Bachelor star Gia Allemand are reacting with shock and sadness to the death of the 29-year-old model this week.

Gia was taken to University Hospital in New Orleans on Monday night, where she was listed in critical condition following a medical emergency.

The details that brought her there were not known until after Gia Allemand died. Her cause of death appears to have been suicide by hanging.

As she was in critical condition and on life support, she received an outpouring of prayers and support from her friends and co-stars of Bachelor Nation.

Now that she has passed away, those that knew her well are expressing their condolences, memories and love for the reality star and model. A sampling:

Concert and recording superstar Eydie Gorme has died at the age of 84.

She performed everything from ballads to bossa nova with singing partner and husband Steve Lawrence, leaving an indelible mark on music in the 1960s.


"Legendary singer and performer Eydie Gorme passed away peacefully at Sunrise Hospital following a brief illness," her publicist, Howard Bragman, said.

"She was surrounded by her husband, son and other loved ones."

Oscar-nominated actress Karen Black, probably best known for her role in Easy Rider, died Thursday at the age of 74 after a long battle with cancer.

Her husband, Stephen Eckelberry, said, "It is with great sadness that I have to report that my wife and best friend Karen Black has passed away, only a few minutes ago."

"Thank you all for all your prayers and love, they meant so much to her as they did to me."

Black was diagnosed with ampullary cancer in November 2010 and had a third of her pancreas removed. She was declared cancer-free in 2011, but it returned.

In March 2013, a fundraising page was set up to help raise public donations for experimental treatment in Europe that was not covered by insurance.

Margaret Pellegrini, who portrayed one of the original Munchkins in The Wizard of Oz, died yesterday from a stroke. She was 89 years old.

The actress suffered the stroke at her home in Glendale, Arizona and died at a hospital near Phoenix, according to the owner of a Chicago theater where Pellegrini and other stars from that iconic movie have appeared.

Pellegrini was 16 when she filmed her role, portraying one of the "sleepy head" kids and wearing a flowerpot on her head for a couple musical numbers.

Sean Sasser, an AIDS activist known to MTV audiences as the boyfriend of Pedro Zamora during the 1994 season of The Real World, has passed away. He was 44 years old.

Former cast member Judd Winick confirmed the sad news via Twitter last night.

"Our friend Sean Sasser has died," Winick wrote. "Our love goes out to his family & husband Michael. We will miss u so much."

Seattle-based author and editor Jane Catherine Lotter penned her own obituary before passing away last month, and it's a wonderful, moving read.

Lotter passed away after a battle with endometrial cancer July 18 at age 60, survived by her husband, a 19-year-old son and a 23-year-old daughter.

One of the "few advantages" of dying of cancer, Lotter wrote in her own Seattle Times send-off, "is that you have time to write your own obituary." 

Despite penning the weekly humor column "Jane Explains" and a novel, The Bette Davis Club, she didn't define success in terms of career feats.

Jazz musician George Duke, known as one of the greats in his genre and an influence on countless artists, died Monday in Los Angeles at age 67.

The Duke

A pioneer in funk and R&B as well as jazz, he had been battling chronic lymphocytic leukemia, according to Concord Music Group, which confirmed his death.

His son, Rashid Duke, said in a statement on Monday:

"The outpouring of love and support that we have received from my father's friends, fans and the entire music community has been overwhelming."

"Thank you all for your concern, prayers and support."
