Hmm. No wonder the White House won't build a Death Star for us.

At a press conference today, Barack Obama proved that while he may be our coolest-ever President, even he needs to bone up on his pop cultural references.

Speaking to the press about sequestration and forging a bipartisan budget reform agreement, Obama said he can’t perform a “Jedi mind meld” on Congress.

Maybe because there is no such thing as a Jedi mind meld.

His point: much as he would like to simply MAKE Republican leaders agree to his spending cuts, he is "not a dictator" and you need two sides to compromise.

What Obama probably meant was to reference either the “Jedi Mind Trick” from Star Wars ... or the “Vulcan Mind Meld” from Star Trek often used by Spock.

Points for trying, B. A for effort.

Venezuela's V.P. denied rumors Thursday that Hugo Chavez has died, but didn't paint a pretty picture of the nation's president's health, either.

Quite specifically, Nicolas Maduro said Chavez, who is currently in Cuba, "is battling for his health, for his life, and we're accompanying him."

H. Chavez

Besides implying Chavez is still alive, he implied a lack of progress. In late 2012, Maduro said Chavez "is fighting a great battle ... for his life, for his health."

Two months of battling for life is not encouraging, even if a new poll says nearly 60 percent of Venezuelans believe Chavez will recover and return to power.

Fox News' Sean Hannity got an earful from Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) on Tuesday night.

Before bringing Ellison on, Hannity showed clips of President Obama talking about budget sequestration, set to the famously apocalyptic "Carmina Burana."

Hannity said Obama was guilty of fearmongering when he talked about the potential effects of the March 1 spending cuts. Ellison saw things a little differently.

He OPENED by calling Hannity "the worst excuse for a journalist I've ever seen." Watch:

Things did not get friendlier from there.

Sequestration is coming Friday, March 1. Maybe you heard.

But what does it mean in this case, and will it impact you?

Sequester

Sequestration, or the "sequester cuts," refers to the automatic federal budget cuts that are set to take place on Friday, unless a deal is reach to stop them.

That is looking increasingly unlikely with each passing day.

Michelle Obama's Oscars dress (by Naeem Khan) wasn't particularly risque by U.S. standards ... but in Iran, well, that sort of thing is JUST NOT OKAY!

Fars News, a TV network in Iran, edited the First Lady's dress in a story about her Academy Awards appearance posted on their website (see below).

Michelle Obama Oscars Dress Photos

Note the digitally added sleeves and neckline. Oh, you clever Tehran TV editors. Good job shielding Iranian viewers from Michelle's provocative outfit.

Fars News states that Obama, who handed out the Best Picture award, was used as a prop simply because the winner was “the anti-Iranian film Argo.”

Ashley Judd met with the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee last week, fueling rumors that the 44-year-old actress may actually run for political office.

The DSCC helps support Democratic candidates running for Senate, and very much wants Judd to run against Mitch McConnell (R-KY), the Senate Minority Leader, in 2014.

Judd also dined with prominent Kentucky Democrats in Louisville.

Ashley Judd Laughs

Local TV station WHAS 11 said she told Rep. John Yarmuth and other VIPs that she is "leaning toward" running for Senate, and may decide by Derby Day, May 6.

Judd has already been hit TWICE in attack ads by McConnell, an amazing feat even in today's political environment of polarization and non-stop campaigning.

Rush Limbaugh would like to make a clarification.

A day after creating a stir by saying he is "ashamed of America," the conservative radio host talked in-depth Friday about exactly what he meant by that comment.

"The Left has beaten us," Limbaugh lamented. "They have created far more low-information, unaware, uneducated people than we’ve been able to keep up with...

"I’ve always had a Civics 101 view of the country: People get what they want, they vote what they want, and they get the way they vote.”

You've done it now, Democrats. You've made Rush Limbaugh officially "ashamed" to be an American.

That's how the conservative radio host described himself yesterday when ranting about the budget sequestration, an issue President Obama says could cripple the economy if Congress can't strike a deal before next month.

Limbaugh believes that argument from Obama - who said yesterday that love of rich people binds the GOP together - is an "insult" to his "common sense and intelligence."

"Here they come... sucking us in, roping us in," Limbaugh said.

President Barack Obama said on Al Sharpton's radio show that the one thing holding the Republican party together these days is its love of rich people.

Obama said on Al Sharpton's radio show: "My sense is that their basic view is that nothing is important enough to raise taxes on wealthy individuals or corporations."

"They would prefer to see these kinds of cuts that could slow down our recovery over closing tax loopholes. That's the thing that binds their party together at this point."

Whoa, tell us how you really feel, B!!

Former Utah Governor and 2012 presidential candidate Jon Huntsman is speaking out in favor of same-sex marriage, saying it's actually a very conservative idea.

In an op-ed for The American Conservative, Huntsman writes about pushing for civil unions and equality for the LGBTQ community as Governor of Utah.

Now, the Republican adds, it's time for his party to step up.

“Conservatives should start to lead again on this issue and push their states to join the nine others that allow all their citizens to marry,” he writes.

“There is nothing conservative about denying other Americans the ability to forge that same relationship with the person they love."
