It doesn't take much to make Paula Abdul cry. Tears flow for this American Idol judge over her assistant purchasing the wrong shampoo. Or a broken remote control. Or a poorly mixed margarita.

Last night, however, it was the performance of American Idol contestant David Archuleta that left Abdul's mascara a mess.

After the 17-year old sensation completed his rendition of John Lennon's "Imagine," Paula choked back the tears and said: "That was . . . one of the most moving performances I've ever heard. You're destined for super stardom."

Here's the only shred of good news for the Patriots, following their stunning loss to the Giants in Super Bowl XLII last night: the team didn't put on the worst performances of the evening.

That dishonor would fall to American Idol judge Paula Abdul.

The washed up singer lip synched her way through "Dance Like There No Tomorrow," as fellow judge Randy Jackson blasted away on bass in the background.

All of a sudden, Britney Spears at the MTV Video Music Awards can hold her head up a little higher...

We can't wait until leg warmers and Hulk Hogan in the WWE both come back, as well.

Reportedly, the Abudl-inspired aspect of the recent 1980s resurgence is due to the fact that the American Idol judge is not content to simply release a song on Randy Jackson's upcoming compilation.

Paula, who hasn't released an album in over a ten years, has announced on her official website that she's working on a new CD.

"New Paula Abdul album coming summer 2008," the site promises. Are you looking forward to it?

In case Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were somehow not washed up enough, Super Bowl XLII might be adding another ancient act to its musical show.

TV Guide is reporting that FOX is talking to insane American Idol judge Paula Abdul about performing on the telecast. Who cares that she hasn't released an album of new material since 1995's Head Over Heels?

Move over, Tom Brady and Tony Romo. Paula Abdul may be the star of this year's Super Bowl.

With Tom Petty set to bore us at halftime, and Jordin Sparks singing the national anthem, it's unclear when Abdul would go on. But it's evident just what she'd be doing during her time back in the spotlight:

The former Laker Girl is in rehearsals for a video duet with Randy Jackson, the first single from his upcoming Music Club Vol. 1 CD. Paula would use this choreography as a basis for any Super Bowl routine.

Do you wanna see the American Idol judge dancing and singing again? Or might this lead to a performance that trumps Britney Spears at the Video Music Awards for sheer ineptitude?

Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul are ready for another season of American Idol. They're also prepared for another few months of trading verbal barbs.

Before mocking his fellow judge, however, Cowell first opened up to TV Guide about the crop of talent last season, saying it "just wasn't good enough."

It's hard to argue with that assessment when the debut albums from finalists Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis fared so poorly.

Abdul even agreed with her supposed rival for a change, adding: "I don't remember hardly anyone [from] last year."

From there, though, Paula morphed back into her oddball self, describing the dynamic on the show, as, well, this:

"I'm the nurturing mom who breast-feeds these kids; Simon's the disapproving dad. They come off the nipple and never say, 'Thank you.' They go, 'Daddy, please pat me on the back.'"

But Cowell summed up his partner well - and got us excited for this season of American Idol - by simply saying:

"Paula's possibly more out of touch than she's ever been in her life."

As you pity Vanessa Hudgens for dating a cutie such as Zac Efron, a certain American Idol judge would also like your sympathy.

Paula Abdul is going public with the incredible strength it's taken her to become a multi-millionaire on the world's most famous reality show.

"I have a strength I didn't know I had. It's a live program, and a naughty British man is constantly making people think there's something weird in my Coca-Cola cup," Abdul told Ladies' Home Journal in a recent interview. "But I'm proud of myself. I always figure out a way to swim."

Don't worry, folks: the fame and money Paula Abdul has received as a result of American Idol are helping her cope with life. 

As for her personal life, Abdul described the relationship with new boyfriend, restaurateur J.T. Torregiani, as "a good thing."

"I've experienced real loneliness, so I love knowing there's someone I can share the good and the not-so-good with," she said. "And I want kids! If it doesn't happen naturally, I can always adopt."

A slew of unborn babies just shuddered in their uteruses.

In news almost as shocking as Lindsay Lohan going to bed with Heath Ledger, Paula Abdul was a train wreck during her stint as Saturday Night Live host in 2005.

So reports Tina Fey in the latest issue of Playboy.

"I was pregnant [with daughter Alice] at the time and probably a little moody, but I remember thinking, 'She's a disaster! I gotta prop this lady up and get her on TV,'" Fey, who was head writer of the series at the time, shared.

Fey said Abdul was "disastrous ... in the way she generally appears to be. "It was an American Idol sketch; she wanted to change parts. So Amy Poehler had to play her."

A year later, the 30 Rock actress spotted Abdul on a flight.

"We both looked at each other like, 'Do I know that girl?'" she said. "And then we both had that moment of recognition, and she was like, 'uuuggh.' I saw it register on her face that she had had a terrible time with us."

Paula Abdul has a new roommate. And we're not talking about another tiny, annoying dog.

The American Idol judge and JT Torregiani are now living together in her Beverly Hills home after just five months of dating, according to an insider in In Touch Weekly's October 8 issue, who added the couple is "already talking about getting married."

"She is a different person since he came into her life," the entertainment news source said. "She has lost seven pounds and always goes to the gym."

Abdul and Torregiani first met in April following an American Idol taping and began dating as the sixth-season wrapped its broadcast run.

"She would love to try for a family," the insider told In Touch, supporting a previous statement made by Abdul that children are the "next step" in her life.

Despite a penchant for alcohol and/or insanity, Paula Abdul appeared to be sober during a recent interview with USA Today.

In it, she talked about her desire for kids, saying she wants them "definitely within the next two years. I thought by now I'd have three grown children."

Instead, she has a possible drinking problem. But we digress.

"With modern medicine, people are having kids in their 40s and even up until their late 40s. In their 50s, they're having their second child," the American Idol judge said. "If it doesn't happen naturally like that, I would always consider adopting."

Of course, it may happen naturally. After all, Paula has a new man in her life - and everyone seems to love J.T. Torregiani.

"He's a positive force that has come into my life right now. Where it leads, who knows?" Abdul said, even stating that Simon Cowell approves of the "great, normal guy" on her arm.

Of course, an interview with Paula wouldn't be complete without a bit of nuttiness thrown in. So rest assured that her dog is also a big fan of her man.

"My chunky dog, Tulip, is in love with him. He pays so much attention to her that she thinks she's the queen."

Sounds like these two might be on the same engagement path as Katharine McPhee and Nick Cokas. We wish them the best, if so.
