Stop the presses! A couple was acting like a couple!

Perhaps in an attempt to prove his non-wussiness, Nick Lachey brought babe friend, Vanessa Minnillo, to the New York City club Butter Monday night, where they partied with fellow celebrities, danced, kissed and partied throughout the evening.

Jessica Simpson was nowhere to be found this time, as Lachey - looking sharp as ever in jeans and a button-down shirt - and Minnillo, in a red dress, began the night chatting in their booth with Russell Simmons before Minnillo danced on the banquet to "Hips Don't Lie" by Shakira.

The Gossip wil need a second after hearing that ... okay ...

When Jay-Z's "99 Problems" came on at around 12:45 a.m., Minnillo indulged Lachey in what would be the first of several lap dances. Yes, SEVERAL.

The MTV VJ wasn't done yet, however. She was up on the dance floor again soon after giving Lachey 98 degrees of fun, dancing with Jamie-Lynn Sigler to the Jackson 5's "Want You Back" and "Sweet Home Alabama."

From there, the night simply rolled - and grinded - on. "SexyBack," by Justin Timerbake, came on and Minnillo settled into Lachey's lap and sang it to him.

But the song that Lachey enjoyed the most was the Rocky theme, "Eye of the Tiger," which got him waving his arms and moving his head to the beat.

Reports didn't state whether or not he hugged Apolla Creed on the beach.

Later, Lachey did shots with Wilmer Valderrama, who was holding court with friends including Erika Christensen. Finally, the pair left at 3 a.m., holding hands.

A rep for Lachey had no comment. Perhaps because there wasn't any real news - except for, you know, those scorching hot lap dances. Yowza!

The former boy band member and Jessica Simpson lackee has been named one of the wussiest artists in music, according to Blender magazine. Sadly, Lachey couldn't even earn the number-one spot in this poll. He had to settle for second behind James Taylor.

Granted, if we'd been dumped by Jessica Simpson, we'd probably be pretty bummed, too. But Lachey's new D-I-V-O-R-C-E album wallows in so much misery and self-pity it makes Morrissey sound like the Pussycat Dolls.

But while Lachey has settled on Vanessa Minnillo - after dating every set of mammary glands in Hollywood - Jessica has only been linked to one lucky guy: Dane Cook. Are these Teen Choice Award co-hosts actually an item?

Ok, so Joe Simpson possibly blackmailing Nick Lachey over his interactions with Vanessa Minnillio is a bit exciting.

But forget that - what about the recent Nick and Jessica Simpson reunion?!? PerezHilton.com reports that the former flames had an awkward run-in with one another Friday night at the bar, Hyde.

A major reason why the air was full of chills? Minnillos was also there.

"Nick walked over to Jessica's table, gave her a hug and said hello to her and to Ken Paves," said a source. "It wasn't the most comfortable situation but it was totally civil and everyone was cool and Jessica was nice."

At least Jessica wasn't totally alone. A hair stylist is almost like a boyfriend. Showing she has brains to match her looks, meanwhile, Vanessa stayed behind at Nick's table.

Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo are one happy couple - and that doesn't sit well with one controlling father.

Reports allege that Joe Simpson - the paternal manager of Jessica and Ashlee, pictured on the left - tried to strong-arm a club into providing him security footage of a night Lachey was cohorting with Minnillo. According to a source cited by the New York Daily News:

"Joe was looking to incriminate Nick. He told the club, 'If you ever want to see my daughter there, you'll give me what I want.'"

Apparently it's illegal to attend a club after you're divorced. A Simpson rep called the story "preposterous," while Jessica wondered what that word meant.

In other Lachey and Minnillo news: The doormen in Minillo's apartment complex on the East Side of Manhattan probably wouldn't mind any scheme with Nick as the target.

They seem to miss Vanessa's former squeeze, Derek Jeter, "because he was much nicer and a lot more fun â€" and he didn't mind signing things for the boys." He also turned a better double play.

A TMZ spy says that Minillo and Lachey have entered the building and had the nerve to ignore the staff as they tried to elude paparazzi hot on their trail. Jeter, on the other hand, would have come up big in this clutch situation, satisfying the demands of all involved.

SoulO, Nick Lachey's debut album, may have been a clunker - but with his second effort standing strong on the charts, a solo tour is now in the works for the ex-Mr. Simpson.

What's Left of Me debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Album Chart and sold more than 500,000 units. As a result, Jive Records label on Monday announced Lachey's first-ever solo concert schedule. It will take place across North America this September or the first time. These shows will be performed in a series of smaller theatres, allowing intimate concerts with fans," Jive said in a statement.

But will hot girlfriend, Vanessa Minnillo, be joining her man across the nation? As the tour hits 26 cities, including Washington, D.C., Chicago, Atlanta, Philadelphia and New York, Lachey may become a major Yankees fan. He won't want Minnillo's ex, Derek Jeter, to have any free time on his hands in the fall.

Meanwhile, a second single, from the CD will hit airwaves n July 24. It's called "I Can't Hate You Anymore" - and there's no way it was written with Jessica Simpson in mind.

Responding to rumors that Nick Lachey isn't over his ex-wife, MTV host Vanessa Minnillo displayed confidence and humor. She insists her and the pop hunk are very happy together.

"Nick's a really great guy. He's very sweet and we're really happy," she said.

Awwww. Minnillo also claims the pair is dating each other exclusively, despite rumors that she's still involved with her former flame - and current Yankees' super stud - Derek Jeter. They're determined to make their relationships work, as they navigate between her home in New York City and his in Los Angeles.

"There are certain sacrifices that we make. I'll travel with him on tour. He'll come to visit me," Minnillo continued. "We see each other as often as we can. We're gonna make it work."

The newly divorced Lachey will be joining Minnillo in New York City over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, as he's scheduled set to perform at the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular Tuesday.

Others, however, may wish to circle July 19 on their calendar. Minnillo, the host of TRL on MTV, will welcome Jessica to the show, as the beauty debuts her new single. Will a catfight ensue between these pals?

We may have been a bit premature in announcing the date, but the fact remains: Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey will soon make their divorce official.

In court documents made available today, Simpson and Lachey have asked the court to appoint a retired judge, Judge Dana Senit Henry, to preside over the proceedings.

The former MTV Newlyweds are asking to "bifurcate" the case, meaning the divorce can become final and the parties can then deal with the complicated financial matters afterward.

Neither has wasted much time moving on personally. Lachey has canoodled with every pair of legs in Hollywood, now appearing to have settled, once again, on Vanessa Minnillo.
Simpson has bit a bit quieter in her dating life, but rumors are circulating that she and future co-star, Dane Cook, have been sharing a lot more than laughs recently.

In court, the papers require a "sign off" from the presiding judge before it becomes official. Senit Henry is on vacation until next week, but after he signs it, the judge is expected to issue the divorce decree immediately.

With his divorce almost complete, Nick Lachey is free to roam. He's certainly taken advantage of that fact recently.

Following the Antonio Tarver/Bernard Hopkins boxing match Saturday night, Lachey headed out to Borgata's Mixx night club. At this hot spot, however, it became apparent that an old relationship was not down for the count.

When Jessica's Simpson ex-husband left the Atlantic City joint around 4 a.m., he wasn't alone. On his arm? MTV veejay, Vanessa Minnillo.

In March, this duo was romantically linked, but the flame seemed to have been extinguished weeks ago. In Minnillo's place, Lachey had boinked almost every ovary-laden companion that came his way. Reportedly, the most recent conquest was Paris Hilton buddy, Kim Kardashian.

On this night, though, Vanessa and Nick just had to live on a prayer. As that classic Bon Jovi tune blared into the night, the pair locked eyes, pumped fists and - we can only assume - ended the evening as only Tommy and Gina would.

Despite clamoring from fans on both sides, it appears as though Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson truly are calling it quits.

While the announcement was made months ago, these procedings can take a long time to complete. According to rumors, the divorce day is nearing: June 17.

Each side seems resigned to the nullification of these former Newlyweds. Nick has been dating every pair of legs that walks his way, while Jessica is focusing on her latest album. Hopefully, these two kids will find love elsewhere.
