The celebrity gossip world has been buzzing with rumors that Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon went from engaged to married in a shorter period of time than it took Britney Spears to from hot to vomit-inducing.

According to family member Linda Cannon, the couple is, in fact, hitched.

"Yes, we know," she told E! Online. "He called us and told us all about it. We are happy for him. If that is what he wants then we are happy for him."

We can only wonder if Cannon's ex-girlfriends, Selita Ebanks and Kim Kardashian, feel the same way.

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon got married before we could even give them a nickname. Mick? Nariah? What do you think?

The rumors appear to be true: Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are engaged.

Carey met the 27-year-old rapper/actor when he directed the video for her latest single, "Bye Bye," in late March.

An insider told Us Weekly that the romance was "hot and heavy," while Cannon has been quoted as saying he loves "everything" about Mariah.

Previously, Carey has been married to music mogul Tommy Mottola, while Cannon has been engaged to Selita Ebanks and seriously involved with Kim Kardashian.

** Update: as of 2 p.m. EST, reports are coming in that Carey and Cannon are already married. They supposedly tied the knot in a small island ceremony.

How about an engagement between Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon!

While merely a rumor at this point, the singer wore a giant, sparkling ring on her left hand during the afterparty for her new film, Tennessee, on Saturday night. Cannon remained close by her side.

The new couple held hands at the party, which followed the movie's premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. Cannon's rep had no comment on the topic, but the man who once dated Kim Kardashian was asked what he liked about Carey and replied:

"Everything."

Awww, we're overcome with happiness, and nausea, for this couple already.

Avert your eyes, Selita Ebanks.

Your former fiance appears to have a crush on Miss USA, Rachel Smith.

The New York Post is reporting that Nick Cannon is doing everything he can to win over the beauty pageant winner, as he's sent her "several dozen roses, chocolates and balloons," according to a source.

"When she opened her apartment door, the hallway was flooded with stuff, and on each item was a different hand-written note from Nick to her."

Who knew Cannon was so smooth? Who has he been taking lessons from, Tony Romo?

During a week where happy engagement news filled Hollywood - from Katharine McPhee and Nick Cokas to Pete Doherty and Irena Lazareanu - one couple actually called off its wedding.

"[Selit Ebanks and Nick Cannnon] are taking a break to focus on their careers but still very much love each other and remain the best of friends," the rep for the Victoria's Secret model, Melissa Raubvogel, said to People magazine.

It was only five months ago when the Drumline actor proposed to his beautiful girlfriend on the jumbotron at Times Square. How can that sort of romantic gesture go for naught?

By August, though, Cannon seemed hesitant about the nuptials, saying he and his fiancee hadn't exactly planed much regarding the ceremony: "We haven't really talked about a lot of that stuff. You've got to take it slow."

But you've still got to take it somewhere, Tameka Foster would argue, no matter how trying the circumstances seem.

Ebanks, meanwhile, also made it clear a few months ago that she didn't exactly see eye to eye - or dollar to dollar - with her man. When it came to a wedding, Selita said,  "he's all about the bling and having a big wedding. Me? I'm all about the courthouse."

At least these two don't have to worry about coming to a compromise now.

Despite being greatly in love, don't expect Nick Cannon and Selita Ebanks to follow the lead of Usher and Tameka Foster. Yet.

The former pair is excited to get married... at some point.

"I did my part!" Cannon told People magazine."You did what you had to do ... you made the commitment. Now it's like, let's just enjoy this for right now."

The Drumline actor â€" who popped the question to Victoria's Secret model Ebanks in May and dated Kim Kardashian in the past â€" says they haven't set a date or a place for the ceremony.

"We haven't really talked about a lot of that stuff. You've got to take it slow," he says.

And it's not as though the star doesn't have his celebrity plate full in the meantime: Cannon will be hosting the Teen Choice Awards with Hilary Duff on August 26.

"It's that preparation time to see if this is what you really want," Cannon said about the engagement to Ebanks.

Nick is also a pal of Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, weighing in on the couple's pregnancy by stating: "She had good parenting, so she'll know how to get it going."

But what kind of dad will Madden be? "He'll be a cool dad. The coolest dad. Any rock 'n' roll dad is a cool dad."

The kids of Tommy Lee surely agree.

Once you see Kim Kardashian nude, no task seems too daunting.

Therefore, Nick Cannon - one of Kim's many, many ex-boyfriends - must feel relaxed heading into this year's Teen Choice Awards, where he'll join Hilary Duff as the program's hosts.

Duff won Teen Choice awards in 2003 (Choice Movie Breakout Star, for The Lizzie McGuire Movie) and 2005 (Choice Movie Blush Scene, for A Cinderella Story). The 19-year-old actress and singer has been nominated eight other times, a feat new boy toy Mike Comrie must be very proud of.

Cannon has earned four nominations of his own, including one this year, for Choice TV Personality. The 26-year-old comedian has yet to win, a disappointment that fiancee Selita Ebanks must feel every night.

Other celebrities due to appear at the event on August 26 include Jessica Alba, Megan Fox, Emmy Rossum, Lauren Conrad, Miley Cyrus, Ashlee Simpson, Anna Paquin, Dane Cook, Jared Padalecki and Taylor Kitsch.

Justin Timberlake has won a record 18 surfboards since 1999, and got four more nods this year.

First-time nominees this year include Lily Allen, Shia LaBeouf, Sacha Baron Cohen, America Ferrera and Sanjaya Malakar.

For some reason, neither Hayden Panettiere nor Kristin Cavallari was nominated for Best Bikini Body. We demand a recount.

When The Hollywood Gossip staff first heard about Selita Ebanks and Nick Cannon dating, we jumped to the conclusion that they got married.

We made the same premature mistake regarding America Ferrera and Ryan Piers Williams.

Sorry. We just get really excited about the prospects of young love.

But we are now proud to report that Cannon and Ebanks are truly engaged, after the Drumline actor proposed to the Victoria's Secret model Monday with the help of a jumbotron in Times Square.

The ex-boyfriend of Kim Kardashian got on one knee with a 12-carat diamond ring immediately after the couple left the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Gala, when they were chauffeured in a Rolls Royce to Times Square. Projected on a giant MTV jumbotron were the words, "Selita will you marry me?"

Soon to be following in the married footsteps of Neve Campbell and John Light, the pair celebrated afterwards at New York nightclub Butter, with Cannon surprising Ebanks by flying in his mother, both her parents and best friends into town. Selita was smiling from ear to ear all night.

And not just because she'll get more exposure at work now that Gisele Bundchen and Victoria's Secret have parted ways.

In February, Cannon gushed to People magazine about his romance with Ebanks, calling her "amazing" and saying she changed him from being a player to the man he is today.

It was the sort of sentiment Usher can relate to after falling for Tameka Foster.

Sorry, Selita Ebanks. Apparently you're still single.

The Hollywood Gossip staff made a rare error when we previously reported that this Victoria's Secret model was married to Nick Cannon after just a few weeks of dating. Turns out they are both technically single.

But they're more in love than Brody Jenner and [insert name of hot, rich babe of the mont here].

"Selita's amazing," Cannon said simply, adding that the beauty has changed him from a player to a ... non-player, we surmise.

The actor, of course, has seen Kim Kardashian nude because he used to date the famous stylist. Then again, we've all seen Kim Kardashian nude at this point and most of us have never met her.

As for Selita, that's a weird name. Here's what she has to say about her marital status:

I'm not married ... We're just two young people and we're happy. I laugh a lot and he laughs a lot and I think that's what's important."

Well, that and making sure a reality TV show keeps track of you and your husband at all times.

Congratulations, Aaron Carter. You're no longer the craziest, love stricken celebrity.

Carter, of course, declared his ever-lasting feelings for Kaci Brown after a whole seven days of knowing her. But at least he didn't walk down the aisle with the quasi stranger.

The same cannot be said for Nick Cannon. The Drumline star knew his girlfriend for three weeks before getting hitched. That's as many weeks of dating as number of times Britney Spears has gone to rehab.

But jokes about bald, formerly hot pop singer aside, Cannon met Selita Ebanks over Super Bowl weekend in Miami. A source says that the actor was immediately smitten with the Victoria's Secret model.

This insider also pointed out that such committment ran counter to Cannon's beliefs when he dated Kim Kardashian.

"The weird thing is when he and Kim [Kardashian] dated, he said he didn't believe in monogamy," said this reliable individual about the relationship that ended in January.

Hmmm, that's around the time when rumors about a Kardashian sex tape with Ray J became to spread. The break-up was just a coincidence, we're sure.

Meanwhile, Cannon and Ebanks are planning to hold a wedding reception in L.A. this weekend.
