The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, not Malala Yousafzai, won the Nobel Peace Prize for working to rid Syria of such lethal devices.

The OPCW had not figured prominently in this year's Nobel speculation.

Many thought Malala Yousafzai, the 16-year-old Pakistani girl who was shot in the head by the Taliban last October for advocating education for girls, was a lock.

"She is an outstanding woman and I think she has a bright future and she will probably be a nominee next year or the year after that," the committee told the AP.

He declined to comment on whether Malala had even been considered.

Nice try, Jeffrey Laub.

This 39-year old Utah resident was pulled over for speeding a few days ago - after leading police on a 111-miles-per-hour chase! - and tried to explain to a judge on Wednesday that he just REALLY needed a bathroom at the time.

Laud said he was going all Justin Bieber through Logan Canyon because he desperately required a toilet… but 1st District Judge Thomas Willmore pointed out that he passed numerous outhouses along his dangerous journey.

Laub was charged with impaired driving, reckless driving, speeding and open container. He will spend seven days in jail.

Summed up Willmore after listening to the criminal's case: “That is one of the worst stories I have ever heard."

An indigenous woman gave birth on a Mexican hospital lawn earlier this month after being denied help inside the clinic in a story making global headlines.

Her newborn still bound by the umbilical cord and lying on the ground, the shocking image has horrified millions because of where and how it took place.

The woman had been refused help inside the medical clinic right before this occurred, which struck a nerve in a country where inequity is still pervasive.

The mother, Irma Lopez, 29, said she was turned away by a nurse who said that she was only eight months pregnant and "still not ready" to deliver.

The nurse told her to go outside and walk, and said a doctor could check her in the morning, Lopez said. But an hour and a half later, her water broke.

Lopez gave birth to a son while grabbing the wall of a house next to the clinic.

The Red Lobster waitress who said a customer left her a receipt with a racist slur has now received an equally unexpected shock - a five-figure "tip" check.

Toni Christina Jenkins of Franklin, Tenn., was stunned to find a receipt on the table with "none" on the "Tip" line and the N-word on the "Total" line.

"I was just stunned that it happened," Jenkins, 19, said of the Red Lobster racist receipt slur. "It's not something that you think would actually take place."

After posting a photo of the infamous receipt to Facebook September 10, her story sparked outrage online, prompting a California man to take action.

Matthew Hanson, founder of AddictingInfo (dot) org, heard Jenkins' story and started an online fundraiser called "Tips for Toni" that collected $10,749.

Even with a Joliet, Ill., drug treatment physician, publicly stating that he's seen as many as four users of Krokodil, the DEA is not sounding the alarm.

The drug, which is made by cooking codeine with various chemicals, such as lighter fluid, gasoline and industrial cleaners, was first reported in 2011.

It's been on the radar, with Krokodil reports in the U.S. making news lately.

Still, federal officials say they are skeptical that the nightmare drug, a cheap heroin knockoff, that originated in Russia has reached American soil.

“We, the DEA, are not seeing cases of it,” agency spokeswoman Dawn Dearden told Fox News Thursday. “Nothing’s been turned into any of our labs."

"As far as the DEA is concerned, we have not seen any cases.”

A Billings, Montana woman was charged with felony DUI after becoming so intoxicated that she had to call 911 to get out of the car, the Billings Gazette reports.

Maybe a sign you shouldn't be driving. Maybe.

Carol Frances Omeara Mug Shot

Carol Frances Omeara, 55, made an initial appearance in Yellowstone County Justice Court Wednesday. She remained jailed as of Thursday on $3,000 bond.

Omeara was arrested Tuesday after a 911 call in which she said she couldn't get out of her vehicle. The dispatcher asked if she was having medical or mechanical issues.

Court records indicate the caller replied she was too drunk, and she wasn't kidding. Prosecutors say Omeara's blood-alcohol level was 0.311 percent.

Point three-one-one percent!

That's 3-4 times the legal limit at which a driver is considered legally intoxicated. Sadly but not surprisingly, records say Omeara has three previous DUIs.

Abercrombie & Fitch continues to receive an avalanche of bad PR this year. The latest example? A former employee dishing on the corporate environment.

From drunken office antics to image-obsessed corporate policies and a need to court controversy, the worker tells Cosmo that it's even worse than you think.

Even at the corporate level, Abercrombie aims to offend consumers, he says.

It was already doing so long before CEO Mike Jeffries slammed fat girls and unleashed a torrent of criticism this year. The former employee explains:

"When The Situation sued us, people were very happy about it."

"It was like, 'Bring it on, this is free advertising.' The shirts are designed to be widely offensive on purpose, to make parents upset and get them to sue the company."

Wendy and Tom Montgomery, devout Mormons, are pushing the church to reconsider its anti-gay stance now that their own teenage son has come out.

They had to do some rethinking of their own. As recently as 2008, they campaigned hard in their California neighborhood for anti-gay marriage proposition.

The Supreme Court threw out Prop 8 for good this year, upholding a lower court's ruling. Despite their prior efforts, the family now sides with the court.

They learned last year that their 15-year-old son is gay, a revelation that rocked their belief system and shifted their views, Wendy Montgomery admits.

Now, she is leading a growing movement among Mormons to push The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to teach that homosexuality isn't a sin.

Angela Martin, a Connecticut woman charged with production, distribution and possession of child porn last month, was already a registered sex offender.

Convicted in 2006 of sexually assaulting a minor, she was charged by federal authorities this time for sexually abusing a 3-year-old girl, which she recorded.

Angela Martin Mug Shot

The video of the abuse on her cell phone was allegedly sent to someone in California. Federal authorities say she also received and distributed other material.

In connection with the 2006 conviction of second-degree sexual assault of a minor she served 30 months in state prison and had to register as a sex offender.

The case, eerily similar to that of Heather Koon, was investigated through a joint operation conducted by the Wallingford, Conn., P.D., the FBI and other officials.

Convicted Cleveland kidnapper/rapist Ariel Castro may have died from auto-erotic asphyxiation, not suicide, according to a scandalous new report.

Two prison guards falsified logs documenting observations taken hours before Ariel Castro died, the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction states.

Castro's pants and underwear were pulled down to his ankles when he was found, leading the state to forward those facts to the state highway patrol.

Officials there will investigate and consider the possibility of auto-erotic asphyxiation, which the new report suggests but does not formally conclude.

No one can say for sure if he practiced auto-erotic asphyxiation, whereby one achieves sexual satisfaction by briefly choking one's self into unconsciousness.

It also won't be hugely surprising considering that it's Castro.
