A North Carolina church caused a firestorm when its lead pastor apparently requested "only white people" serve as greeters, a WBTV report claims.

Carmen Thomas, a member of Freedom House Church, was outraged after receiving an email regarding this from church Pastor Makeda Pennycooke.

The pastor reportedly asked people of color to please refrain from serving as greeters at the 9 a.m. service during the congregation's busiest season.

Pennycooke, an African-American, told volunteers that "first impressions matter" and that the congregation wanted "the best of the best on the front doors."

Thomas said she thinks Pennycooke was attempting to attract white worshippers.

Sarah Stevens has been arrested after she refused to stop breastfeeding her eight-month-old baby boy, who died after she was ordered to do so.

Ryder Salmen died of a overdose months after Stevens was found to have high levels of methodone in her system. She has been charged with murder.

Methodone is often used by addicts to wean off of heroin. Officials say that Salmen died due to ingesting Xanax, methadone and the painkiller Opana.

The strange case began when Ryder, then four months old, was brought to a hospital because he was lethargic. Social workers found he was at risk.

Stephens was warned that in order to keep custody, she'd have to stop nursing. She did not do so, reports indicate, and her child paid with his life.

A safety plan was required for him to remain in his mother's custody, however, a CPS manager did not approve the safety assessment for three months.

That gap has experts questioning the charges against Stephens.

A convicted rapist collapsed in shock and dismay after police told him he may have contracted HIV from the woman he assaulted, according to the BBC.

UK Raper

Richard Thomas, 27, was sentenced last week to five years and four months for raping a woman while she slept. He pleaded guilty to the crime July 20.

Thomas "let himself into her home uninvited in the middle of the night and she awoke to find him raping her from behind," the UK's Telegraph reports.

"He was arrested and interviewed and said he had been drinking heavily, taken cocaine and ecstasy and could not recall the incident," added prosecutors.

Thomas eventually learned that the woman he attacked is HIV-positive, and even though he has his awful self to blame, did not take the news well.

Test results later this week will show if he contracted the disease.

YOLO, people. YOLO.

Samantha Lynn Goudie, a 22-year-old University of Iowa student, had a few dozen too many Saturday, as she tried to rush the field during a game against Northern Illinois.

Campus police stopped her before Samantha could cross the line, taking the Lindsay Lohan wannabe into custody and giving her a breathalyzer ... on which she blew a .341.

Seriously, a .341. The legal threshold for intoxication is .08.

And how, you ask, do we know Goudie blew a .341?

Because she Tweeted the results FROM JAIL!

Police investigating the death of a one-year-old boy shot in the head in a stroller said they believe his father was the target and it may be gang-related.

Authorities say Antiq Hennis was slain on a Brooklyn street Sunday night. His father, Anthony Hennis, has a criminal record and wasn't cooperating with police.

The 21-year-old had just gone to pick up Antiq at the home of the baby's mother, Cherise Miller, and take him to visit Hennis' grandmother, police said.

Anthony Hennis put the boy in the stroller and was pushing him across a street in the Brownsville neighborhood when shots rang out, killing the boy.

Hennis' grandmother, Lenore Steele, heard shots before Hennis ran up to her.

A federal jury in New York has found that use of the N-word is never appropriate at work, even if it is used between co-workers that are both African-American.

Jurors awarded Brandi Johnson $250,000 in compensatory damages in a case gaining national attention at a time when n-word use is often debated.

The jury determined the employment agency worker, who is black, was the subject of harassment after her boss, Rob Carmona, subjected her to a racial slur-filled tirade.

Carmona is also African-American. The court convenes again today to determine whether Johnson should be awarded additional punitive damages.

The case hinged on use of a slur with a lengthy history.
