It's been awhile since anyone STAIND the National Anthem quite like Aaron Lewis did at the World Series last night. See what we did there twice?!

The rock band frontman turned solo bungled "The Star-Spangled Banner," replacing "at the twilight's last gleaming" with "were so gallantly streaming."

He then repeated the lyric in its correct place a few moments later, but the damage was done, the cameras captured it, and the Twitter critics let him have it:

The gaffe, while subtle enough to miss if you were totally zoned out, triggered a grumble among fans in the crowd, and some of the players noticed as well.

In a statement on his website, Lewis blamed the mistake on nerves:

"All I can say is that I'm sorry and ask for the Nation's forgiveness. My nerves got the best of me and I am completely torn up about what happened."

"America is the greatest country in the world and 'The Star-Spangled Banner' means so much to so many, including myself," the Staind singer said.

"I hope everyone can understand the intensity of the situation."

Ariana Grande performed the National Anthem last night at the NFL season opening contest between Seattle and Green Bay, and she crushed it. Crushed it.

The 21-year-old songbird hit the field rocking her signature ponytail, a bedazzled Russell Wilson Seahawks jersey (extremely cute look) and jeans. Jeans!

Skirts and body suits are synonymous with her live performances typically, but this is a football game. The laid-back version of Ariana totally works.

Speaking of laid back, boy does she make it look easy out there. Even when belting out those difficult high notes, Grande had the Anthem under control.

Her NFL rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner" caps off an memorable summer for Grande, whose latest album, My Everything, is #1 on the charts.

She scored a massive hit with "Problem" this summer and "Break Free" looks to be right behind it as she catapults herself and her career to new heights.

Kelly Clarkson... Alicia Keys... Christina Aguilera...

... Renée Fleming?!?

The folks behind Super Bowl XLVIII thought outside the pop music box this year for its national anthem performer, choosing one of America's most respected opera singers to honor this nation prior to kickoff between the Seahawks and Broncos.

Yes, opera and football. How did the two worlds mesh?

Very well, thanks to the soprano skills of Fleming, who belted out one of the more memorable renditions in recent memory.

Check it out here, compare it with a few past Super Bowl singers below and then sound off below...

How would you grade the Renée Fleming Super Bowl national anthem?

James Taylor sang the Star Spangled Banner prior to Game 2 of the World Series between the Boston Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals last night.

Eventually, that is.

But the veteran artist initially thought he was on hand to belt out a version of "America the Beautiful," getting a couple of words into that ode to this great nation before course-correcting and serenading fans at Fenway Park with the national anthem.

It could have been a whole lot worse, of course. Taylor could have pulled a Christina Aguilera and forgotten the national anthem lyrics at the Super Bowl. Or he could have sang it like Steven Tyler.

In the end, following the awkward start, Taylor did a very fine job.

After a few months on the shelf following hip surgery, Lady Gaga returned to the spotlight this week to sing the National Anthem at NYC's Gay Pride Parade.

The LGBT community is, of course, near and dear to Gaga's heart, and she let them know it Saturday with this rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner" ...

“It’s my LGBT friends and fans who always said to me, 'I knew Lady Gaga when...'” she said. “Well, look who the star is now. Now I get to say I knew you when."

"When you suffered, when you felt unequal, when you felt there was nothing to look forward to,” she added as she launched into the song with a rainbow flag.

At the end, she changed up the lyrics a bit, replacing “star-spangled banner” with "star-spangled flag of pride” and “home of the brave” with “home for the gays.”

Sebastien De La Cruz returned to the national stage last night to sing the national anthem, two days after being subjected to racist and hate-filled Tweets.

The 11-year old was back behind the microphone (introduced by San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro) despite the fact that many people online reacted in shock and disgust over someone with Mexican heritage being given such a platform.

But De La Cruz handled the controversy with grace and maturity, the same way he handled this rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner:

Said Spurs coach Greg Popovich prior to tip-off:

Sebastien De La Cruz is 11 years old.

Yet the singer is clearly more mature than a handful of morons on the Internet, many of whom reacted to his national anthem performance on Tuesday by raining hate all over Twitter.

The former America's Got Talent contestant sang The Star-Spangled Banner prior to Game 3 of the NBA Finals... only to become the subject of racist Tweets that couldn't believe someone of Mexican heritage was honoring the United States.

Talk about an impressive case of cymbal-ism!

During a recent school performance of the Star Spangled Banner, one poor student clashed him instrument together... only to see it break apart and go crashing to the floor.

Did panic set in initially? Yes. But did he recover and save face like a pro? You know it!

Watch the following video to see how one awesome young man did the best he could in the face of a daunting situation:

Poor Alexis Normand.

The Canadian singer took to the ice prior to a Memorial Cup hockey game this weekend and attempted a rendition of the U.S. national anthem...

... only to forget and botch the lyrics and struggle to a conclusion, even as the crowd tried to help her along.

Makes a bit more sense now why Beyonce lip-synched her Inauguration national anthem, doesn't it?

Keep your head up, though, Alexis: even Christina Aguilera botched the patriotic song once - but her fail came during the Super Bowl!
