He may have reunited with N Sync last night, but Justin Timberlake also proved why he made the right decision to go off on his own.

The solo artist blew viewers away with a medley of hits that included takes on “Take Back the Night,” “SexyBack,” “Like I Love You,” “My Love,” “Cry Me a River,” “Senorita,” and “Rock Your Body."

He then welcomed his former boy band members on stage to rock out with new choreography... only to continue with “Suit & Tie” and “Mirrors" after they departed.

It was a whirlwind, impressive, 15-minute set for JT. And we loved every second!

Watch above and decide: Who put on the best performance at the VMAs?

Notably absent in 2012, Lady Gaga made a grand return to the MTV Video Music Awards stage Sunday night when she opened the show with "Applause."

While wearing a giant block on her head. And a plethora of wigs.

Lady Gaga's VMA performance began with her face filling the entirety of the screen as a blockhead. See above. Many coiffure changes soon followed.

The singer shed the first headpiece for a lopsided white wig, then a yellow postiche, and then a long blonde mane more reminiscent of vintage Gaga.

While certainly eye-opening, Gaga ended up a bit overshadowed by Miley Cyrus VMA performances and Katy Perry's "Roar", which closed the show.

Unfamiliar territory for Mother Monster, but on top of reports that she's trying way too hard to get people to buy the song, some wonder if she's peaked.

You tell us: What do you think of Lady Gaga's "Applause"?

She showed off some serious thigh. She debuted a grill. She stole the show performing under the Brooklyn Bridge in a sports bra and boxing shorts.

Katy Perry, everyone!

The star closed out the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards with a rendition of her new hit single, "Roar," her first performance of the show anywhere:

The girl power anthem, which has drawn comparisons to Sara Bareilles' "Brave", has been a huge seller out of the gate, and earned raves on Twitter Sunday.

Did Katy Perry's VMA performance deserve them? Watch above and tell us:

We've heard her roar, but do you think her new song is a champion?

As evidenced by the reveal of North West last week, Kanye West is the father of an adorable, healthy baby girl.

But that doesn't mean the artist is suddenly in a bright and shiny mood.

Kanye took to the MTV Vide Music Awards stage last night for a very dark rendition of "Blood on the Leaves," a track off the album "Yeezus."

With the act, the 36-year old tied Madonna for most performances in show history - and he did so without cutting off Taylor Swift or any winner this year! West has come so far.

Watch him do his unique thing now:

We know how Kim Kardashian felt about her man on stage, Tweeting soon afterward:

“Best performance of the night @kanyewest !!!!!!!!!”

N Sync is back! If only for two minutes of one night at the 2013 MTV VMAs.

It felt like 2000 again at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn as JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, and Lance Bass performed a spirited rendition of "Bye, Bye, Bye."

Watch the highly-anticipated N Sync reunion performance now!

With Justin Timberlake, of course, the guest of honor at the entire event.

The colossal boy band got together for the first time in 10 years in honor of JT winning the Video Vanguard Award for achievement as a music video pioneer.

The crew, who earned a special shout-out during Justin's speech later, were part of a celebration of his career that also featured an impressive solo medley.

The highlight, though, was N Sync. Right? What did you think?

The 2013 MTV Video Music Awards - an awards show honoring music videos the network doesn't even air - were handed out Sunday night in Brooklyn.

Irony aside, without the VMAs, celebs wouldn't have this much-needed, late-summer excuse to wear crazy $h!t, make absurd speeches and trend on Twitter.

Taylor Swift at the VMAs

We kid ... sort of. Arbitrary as it may be, the MTV event marks what has often been the year's craziest night in music, and this year was no exception.

There was Miley Cyrus Twerking. There was the Divergent trailer. There was an N SYNC reunion! And a whole lot more we can't wait to get to on THG.

There were also a whole mess of accolades doled out to the biggest stars in music. So follow the jump for a full list of winners from the 2013 MTV VMAs!

Just call them T. Lo.

Taylor Swift, who has set a new Staples Center concert record, surprised Los Angeles attendees last night with a special guest performer from the Bronx:

JENNIFER LOPEZ!

"You know how you have your favorite song that you just play over and over and over again," Swift said by way of introduction. "You just blast it in your room and you'd sing in front of your mirror into a hairbrush, right? You have that one favorite song. It was your favorite song to dance to. Los Angeles, this is my hairbrush song."

Watch the famous pair launch into a duet of "Jenny from the Block."

At another Los Angeles show, Swift sang "Brave" with Sara Bareilles.

Bye, bye, bye? More like Hi, Hi, Hi!

Following days of rumors and speculation, a source tells Us Weekly that ‘N Sync will, indeed, reunite for a special performance at tomorrow night's MTV Video Music Awards.

"They will reenact some of their greatest videos in a medley," alleges this insider, saying most tracks will be off the group's 2000 album No Strings Attached. "Then Justin will sing his new song 'Take Back the Night' and get his [Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award]."

The Kia hamsters are back! And more dapper than ever!

And sleeker, sexier and more sophisticated than ever ... not unlike the car they want you to buy, the 2014 Soul. At least that's the hook of the ad (presumably).

Formerly frumpy, the Kia Hamsters are turning themselves into leaner, meaner, head-turning machines. And when they roll up in their Soul, peeps take heed.

Watch as the adorable trio, whose previous TV spots have featured "Black Sheep" and LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem"  hit the gym and shed their furry folds.

Their workout song of choice? Lady Gaga's "Applause".

They LIVE for it. Just like Mother Monster. Watch:
