MTV Movie Awards Moment of the Night: Eminem Flips Out, Twilight Stars Tease Make Out

Unlike other networks, MTV knows how to host a movie awards show.

At last night's annual event, celebrities from all industries walked the red carpet, the New Moon trailer premiered and Kiefer Sutherland cried hysterically into the arms of Ben Stiller.

But two events stand out the most from the evening:

  1. A half-naked Sacha Baron Cohen (in his character of Bruno) fell into Eminem's lap. At the sight, and touch, of Bruno's bare buttocks, Eminem fumed: "Are you serious? Get the **** off me!," before storming out of his seat.
  2. After their win for best kiss, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart stood at the podium and came... so... close... to... kissing.

Here's a look at each of the memorable occurrences:

Britney Spears "Performs," Wins Big at MTV VMAs

Britney Spears opened up, then won big at last night's 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, taking home three awards, including Video of the Year.

She kicked off the show in a pre-taped skit with actor Jonah Hill - yes, he of the laugh-out-loud Superbad quotes. That movie was so funny.

This skit? Not so much. Here's the video ...

Yeah. Fortunately, the night got better for Britney after that. After the segment, Spears, in sexy, sparkly halter dress, walked on stage as "Baby One More Time" blared. She then won Best Female Video for "Piece of Me."

"I'm speechless... Oh, my goodness, thank you!" an elated, giggly Spears told the crowd. "I first wanna thank God for blessing me like this. My family ... my two beautiful boys [Sean and Jayden] for inspiring me everyday."

She later took home the award for Best Pop Video, telling the crowd again that she was "speechless" and thanking longtime manager Larry Rudolph. Britney Spears then closed out the night by winning Video of the Year.

"I'm in shock right now," she said. "I want to dedicate this to all my fans."

Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt Want Live MTV Wedding

Are you the slightest bit surprised by this headline?

You shouldn't be. The Hills' gruesome twosome has reportedly been talking to the network that made them famous about their upcoming nuptials.

As in a live telecast of their upcoming nuptials.

Heidi Montag reportedly told MTV programming and development honcho Tony DiSanto that they're ready to tie the knot in front of the cameras.

Surprise, surprise: DiSanto is said to be all for it!

Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt Picture

Would you watch Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt's wedding? You can admit it.

According to Spencer Pratt, their dream is a small wedding on Sir Richard Branson's private island in the Virgin Islands, with catering by Wolfgang Puck, designer watches for all guests and a live performance by U2.

Even master manipulators like Spencer and Heidi may be aiming too high with those requests, but we're sure MTV can figure out something.

Our personal suggestion is for Brody Jenner and Frankie Delgado to become ordained ministers online, then officiate the ceremony.

MTV Movie Awards Report: Zac Efron Breaks Through

While Johnny Depp picked up a pair of popcorn trophies - for Best Comedic Performance and Best Villian - Zac Efron represented the teen crowd well with a win for Breakthrough Performance. Here's a shot of the adorable High School Musical star accepting his award:

The Phenomenon That is The Hills

Continuing its immensely popular spring run, The Hills returns with an all-new episode tonight on MTV. Over the weekend, the Boston Globe's Joanna Weiss throughout examined the obsession millions of people have with The Hills...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I still remember the first time I stumbled on The Hills, and how confused I was. It couldn't be scripted, since the dialogue was awful and the characters could barely deliver lines. But it couldn't be a reality show, because the scenes played out too perfectly. Cameras always happened to be rolling when the phone rang or the meaningful text message arrived.
It is, of course, a reality show, but a strangely innovative one.
Lauren Conrad and her friends in Los Angeles might replay scenes they've already lived through, or make carefully timed entrances into rooms so the cameras can get the right angle, but they never give a hint that they're being filmed.
The Hills, a coming-of-age follow-up to MTV's hit Laguna Beach (which also starred Conrad) drops the pretense of the confessional and the sense of manufactured conflict in favor of a new charade: pretending that the cameras aren't there.
As viewers, we're expected to keep up our end of the bargain.
Forget all about Lauren Conrad and new clothing line or her Mercedes, forget the single Heidi Montag recently released. Pretend these are normal, struggling young women, trying to make it in the cutthroat world of L.A.
Three Hills Girls
The Hills' Lauren Conrad, Audrina Patridge and Whitney Port.
One girl, a smart, poised journalism student in Boston - whose life must be very different from LC's - told me she likes the show because she can relate.
She's not the only one.
The Hills is an unmitigated MTV hit, and not just among the college crowd. John McCain, who won an endorsement from Heidi Montag, told Time magazine he never misses the show, and it's hard to tell if he was being facetious.
The first of the current eight-episode run of spring "bonus" installments of The Hills drew 4.8 million viewers, the show's highest ratings to date.
The day after it aired, the episode drew 1.8 million streams from MTV.com.
The Hills: Coming to Great Britain
Here's your chance to become the next Audrina Patridge, Lauren Conrad, Whitney Port, Heidi Montag or Spencer Pratt - if you're British, that is!
According to reports, MTV UK has begun casting its new version of The Hills that will air across the Atlantic later this year! OMG, bloody brilliant!
MTV UK is accepting applicants 18-21 years old who love being in front of the camera and are followers of fashion, art - and partying and clubbing.
That's pretty much everyone, at least the last part. Of course, wannabe reality TV stars should also have "striking looks" (shock) and an "aspirational lifestyle."
We're guessing that means you'll do anything to be famous, even leak your own topless photos (Audrina) or have 23 plastic surgeries (Heidi).
Lauren is Lovely
We'd be surprised if the British Hills found a star as beautiful as Lauren Conrad, or a supportive BFF / co-worker who's as delightful and sweet as Whitney Port.
You may never be cast on The Hills, but you can tell us this much, fans - which character on the hit series are you most like? Are you a career girl like Whitney? A fembot like Heidi? A serial dater like LC? Tell us!
Lauren Conrad Speaks on Audrina Patridge "Betrayal"
"I just want to say that I can always trust my good friends that I've had forever, but at the same time, some of my oldest friends have betrayed me," Lauren Conrad reveals in the latest issue of Us Weekly.
That's juicy, even for the world of The Hills!
In an exclusive interview, LC talks about how ex Brody Jenner went public with a new girlfriend (Cora Skinner) just days after she left for Paris.
To make matters worse, best friend Audrina Patridge allegedly buried the hatchet with Conrad's ex-BFF and current rival, Heidi Montag.
"At this point, I have to question every person that wants a relationship with me, whether it's friendship or a romantic relationship," Conrad said.
"[Audrina Patridge] has to remind me that she's not someone who's going to betray me," the 22-year-old star of The Hills says pointedly.
Lauren Conrad: Betrayed!
As for Brody Jenner's rebound with Cora Skinner, she says, "When you have that type of thing, you always have to question, 'Why wasn't I good enough?'"
"It's disappointing to have to question relationships," she adds.
The latest betrayals have been especially difficult for Lauren Conrad, who battled sex tape rumors allegedly spread by Montag and Spencer Pratt.
She also caught ex-boyfriend Jason Wahler kissing another girl (Jessica Smith), but stood by him as he got arrested four times and went to rehab.
After he got out, Wahler promptly got engaged to Katja Decker-Sadowski.
All this and more will come flooding back to us as The Hills returns on Monday, March 24. Not sure about you, but we can't wait.
So The Hills is Sort of Scripted ... Does Anyone Care?
An storm of controversy is brewing around The Hills.
Some sloppy editing in recent episodes, reported in several newspapers and celebrity news blogs, have raised the question of whether the show is staged.
Then last week, an online exposé by star Lauren Conrad's one-time date, Gavin Beasley, sent millions Hills fans into a tizzy trying to figure it out.
MTV has always 'fessed to doing "pickup shots," staged scenes that address issues of continuity, but not storylines. But in an interview last week, Beasley divulged the high level of manipulation that goes on in The Hills.
The revelations of Gavin Beasley are perhaps the most incriminating to surface s far supporting the (fairly obvious) allegation that at least a good part of The Hills' drama is largely manufactured by MTV and its producers.
The Hills Foursome
Beasley divulged some details regarding his cameo, including how producers asked him to get Conrad's phone number and told him what to ask her.
"They wanted me to ask her about the runway show, how long she had worked that day, when would she get off, stuff like that," Gavin Beasley said.
Thursday, an MTV rep responded that producers "overheard" that Gavin Beasley was "planning to ask Lauren Conrad out on a date."
And while maintaining that the show is not scripted, the spokeswoman did acknowledge the producers sometimes help guide dialogue along for clarity:
"As there are no confessionals or interviews on The Hills to put the questions in context (as there are in shows such like The Real World), producers sometimes ask the cast members to rephrase to help tell the story clearly."
Gavin Beasley had also said that producers set up a barbecue party for the gang, specifically so Brody Jenner and he could meet, thus providing the fodder for an episode that would revolve largely around Jenner growing jealous of Beasley.
MTV denied this, saying the cast organized the party.
Scripted or not, watching L.A.'s most popular layabouts bicker on The Hills has been the definition of guilty pleasure since its launch in early 2006.
Kanye West: Britney Spears is Irrelevant, MTV Sucks
Kanye West continues to bash MTV, saying Friday that the network "used" Britney Spears to get higher ratings for Sunday's Video Music Awards.
"I just felt like she wasn't ready and I felt like they had to get their ratings. ... It just shows you it's not a black and white thing; it's a money thing," the rapper said on Ellen DeGeneres' talk show.
"I felt bad for her too. I felt bad for everyone involved."
West, whose backstage meltdown behind the scenes at the VMAs is now part of YouTube lore, said MTV should have stopped Spears after seeing her rehearsal.
"Someone had to be at that practice and be like, 'Wow. This is not good.' All the lip-syncing, everything," West said. "I mean, that performance, even had it been pulled off perfectly, still wouldn't have been up to par to start off the MTV Music Video Awards."
Selling a reported 420,000 records on the first day his new album Graduation was released, West seems on track to be the victor in his battle to out-perform fellow rapper 50 Cent (whose new album dropped the same day) on the charts.
Kanye West is Not Thrilled
But Kanye West's battle with MTV continues.
"MTV didn't give me the opportunity to rock the way I wanted to rock," he said, calling his five VMA nominations but no wins a "slap in the face."
"I told the guy at MTV, 'There's only a few things important in music this year: Umbrella, Amy Winehouse,'" he said. "it's not just me. Britney Spears is not important in music, but she's important to the tabloids and stuff like that."
So basically, Kanye West is saying that Britney Spears is only relevant because celebrity news publications are obsessed with her, and she's no longer a force in the music business. A bold, bold statement. Way to go out on a limb there!
Kanye West Throws Tantrum Backstage at VMAs
Kanye West prides himself on being an educated, thinking man's rapper, a class act a cut above the typical gangsta-thug lyfe hip-hop fare.
That he may be. But he's also a raging, petulant egomaniac.
West has been on the warpath since being blanked at the MTV Video Music Awards yet again, taking issue with the voters as well as the program itself, chiding an unprepared Britney Spears as well as his own relegation to performing in a Palms luxury suite rather than the main stage.
And that's just on the record.
The rage of Kanye West is evident in a video sweeping the Internets, in which the rapper has a backstage meltdown punctuated by profanities toward MTV ...
Yikes. Accentuating the positives (if there are any), MTV responded to Kanye West's blistering criticism about his treatment by lavishing him with praise.
"MTV has a long and collaborative relationship with Kanye and we hope and look forward to continuing that meaningful relationship," MTV' said in a statement.
Good to see they're taking the high road. Hopefully, Alexis Phifer can convince her talented, arrogant fiance to do the same.
