Rihanna and Katy Perry were both on the list of MTV VMA winners.

The BFFs were clearly among the night's fashion winners, as well.

Rihanna's stunning white gown and newly-shortened hair were the talk of the show, even before she was seen kissing Chris Brown inside Staples Center.

Often known for outrageous getups, she looked tremendous, an angel of the night in a floor length white dress which still showed some skin, RiRi style.

Katy Perry, meanwhile, went for a subtly provocative look. Her floor length Elie Saab gown featured a plunging neckline and sheer train. Just smoking.

Forget the fashion and the performances for a moment. Let's focus on the comedy.

Or lackthereof?

Kevin Hart took on hosting duties at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards last night, opening the event with a monologue that tackled...

... the Drake vs. Chris Brown bar brawl (On why Drake allegedly threw a bottle: “Drake is from Canada. He loves to recycle...").

... Snooki's son, Lorenzo Dominic (On having a baby "in her oven" and why the Jersey Shore star can handle it: Because she's "been cooking [her] skin for a while.").

... the Kristen Stewart affair with Rupert Sanders (“Look, we’ve got Sleepy, Grumpy, Adultery...").

Two of Hollywood's most eccentric stars made appearances on the MTV Video Music Awards red carpet last night.

First, rumored new American Idol judge Nicki Minaj posed in a skin-tight outfit, yellow hair sprouting out the sides of a stylish black hat.

Then there was Ke$ha, who... looked sort of normal. For Ke$ha at least. Flowing blonde hair and a lack of facial glitter is simply not what we expect from this singer.

Did the regular look throw you off? Did it top Nicki's outfit? Compare and vote below.

The Fierce Five - Gabby Douglas, 16, McKayla Maroney, 16, Kyla Ross, 15, Jordyn Wieber, 17, and Aly Raisman, 18 - appeared at the MTV VMAs last night.

One of America's gymnastics golden girls in particular made her presence felt, however, during Alicia Keys' performance of "Girl on Fire" late in the show.

Midway through the song, Nicki Minaj appeared on stage to perform her verse, which included a shout-out to Douglas, who then tumbled onto the stage!

Nicki Minaj rapped: "Took me on the balcony, telling me to jump with her / Yeah, I'm in the ghost but I ain't doing stunts with her / I ain't trying to be that, haters want to see that / But I got 'em aggy, cause I win the gold like Gabby."

Cue Gabby!

Douglas strutted past Keys and performing a series of cartwheels, jumps and back hand springs, flashing her million-dollar smile and high-fiving Keys as she left.

Talk about making an entrance and an exit. The lame Russian judge probably found some obscure reason to deduct points, but we'd give Gabby a perfect 10.

Our only regret? That she didn't do this for every artist. The Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz MTV performance really could've used a little gymnastics flair.

One Direction sang about that "One Thing" at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, but the young British studs had three things to celebrate when the night was over.

Three trophies, that is, as the group took home Most Share-Worthy Video and Best Pop Video for “What Makes You Beautiful," along with Best New Artist overall. Not a bad haul, huh?

What's all the excitement about?

While the Chris Brown-Rihanna kiss was perhaps the VMAs' most tweeted event, Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz' performance was definitely the most bleeped.

2 Chainz may be the new guy in the rap game, but the lanky dread-head towered over the set and captivated the Staples Center crowd from the get-go.

"Cut the top off, call it Amber Rose," Chainz rapped in "Yuck," referencing Wiz Khalifa's once bald-headed, now crop-topped and very pregnant fiancee.

Lil Wayne, a.k.a. Tunechi, backed up Chainz during the track, then took center stage as the DJ cut off "Yuck" and played his new release, "No Worries."

Wayne jumped up and down, shirtless and wearing no sunglasses for once, just tearing thorough the song. Even his boy 2 Chainz got in on the act.

Chainz began to hype up the Young Money / Cash Money boss up by accentuating Weezy's bars with persistent instructions to the crowd to "Turn up."

They obliged. Fortunately, those in attendance could actually hear the song; TV audiences may have found it hard to follow Wayne's censored lyrics.

Can't say that's a big surprise, though. This is Lil Wayne here. Dude even began his verse: "Tunechi up in this bitch, everybody should be worried."

Indeed.

He may now be single, but Robert Pattinson was far from alone at last night's MTV Video Music Awards.

With Kristen Stewart at the Toronto Film Festival, the actor was joined by Taylor Lautner, Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser and Jackson Rathbone on stage and helped introduced new footage from Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2.

"It's been an amazing journey and we'd like to thank all the fans of the series for your incredible enthusiasm from the beginning until now, the final chapter," Pattinson told the crowd prior to unveiling the fresh trailer.

It focuses on Bella as a vampire, along with her and Edward's daughter, Renesmee, and it includes this line from the reborn blood sucker:

"My time as a human was over, but I never felt more alive. I thought I'd be safe forever, but forever isn't as long as I hoped."

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. But, in the case of Amber Rose at last night's MTV Video Music Awards, only one is really necessary:

CONGRATULATIONS!

The model and ex-girlfriend of Kanye West confirmed her pregnancy via a couple of simple poses on the red carpet. Standing alongside fiance Wiz Khalifa - who kissed her stomach and screamed "We're having a baby!" - Rose debuted her baby bump with pride:

Amber is reportedly due in January and the couple may get married before then.

We wish them and their impending bundle nothing but the best!

Chris Brown and Rihanna totally kissed at last night's MTV VMAs. No joke.

Was it just a simple greeting between friends (on the lips)? Was it more?

You tell us after you watch and read into it for yourself right here:

At some point during tonight's 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, Rih was walking through the crowd and planted one on Breezy, her former boyfriend.

Here's a close-up of the kiss, along with Rihanna's collaborator A$AP Rocky playing a little grab-ass with her (that dress was really something else):

  • Rihanna-Chris Brown VMA Kiss
  • Rihanna, A$AP Rocky

Her former boyfriend who beat her senseless, but who she openly said (to Oprah Winfrey, through tears nonetheless) is still the love of her life.

Rihanna says she and Chris have rebuilt their friendship and that she still loves him, yet acknowledges he's in a relationship (with Karrueche Tran).

Just the same, this exchange (whatever it was) is sure to inspire more of the mass head-shaking, sighs and backlash she received after her Oprah sit-down.

What do you think: Should Rihanna and Chris get back together?

It took a lot to get folks from talking solely about Miley Cyrus' fashion choice on the red carpet of the MTV Video Music Awards last night.

But Frank Ocean delivered a whole lot and then some with his incredible rendition of "Thinkin About You."

Introduced by Zoe Saldana, the rising superstar made headlines for reasons above and beyond his sexuality, taking a simple, vocal-based approach to a beautiful song and earning perhaps the biggest ovation of the evening. He's all the buzz today and for good reason.
