Ray Harryhausen, a pioneer of stop-motion animation and visual effects, has died at the age of 92.

Harryhausen, inspired by the 1933 film King Kong, began working with stop-motion and visual effects in the 1940's.

He is best known for creating the skeleton sword fight in 1963's Jason and the Argonauts.

Other works include Clash of the Titans, It Came from Beneath the Sea, and Mysterious Island.

Harryhausen has inspired generations of filmmakers, including George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, and Terry Gilliam.

Our thoughts go out to his family, friends, and colleagues.

For year, Martin Scorsese has been trying to get an adaptation of Shusako Endo's novel Silence off the ground.

Now, that movie is finally under way.

Andrew Garfield has been cast in Silence, in the lead role, a 17th-Century Portuguese priest. Ken Watanabe will play a Japanese translator.

The film follows two Jesuit priests who travel to Japan to investigate claims of religious persecution.

The role of the second priest has yet to be cast.

Good news, Star Trek fans. You no longer have to wait all the way until May 17 to see Into Darkness.

The Star Trek Into Darkness release date has been moved forward to May 16.

Reacting to a quick sellout of IMAX sneak previews on May 15, Paramount has decided to offer the film to everyone a day early.

Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, and Bruce Greenwood star in the sci-fi sequel.

With the worldwide success of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Paramount is now developing Mission: Impossible 5.

Today, Tom Cruise has signed on to return to the role of Ethan Hunt. He will also produce.

So far, no director or writer have been confirmed for the project, but Cruise's Jack Reacher director, Christopher McQuarrie, is rumored to be in the running.

Ghost Protocol, which was the fourth film in the series, earned $694.7 million worldwide.

Despite Iron Man 3 earning the second biggest opening of all time this weekend, Avatar is still far and away the highest-grossing film of all time, earning over $2.78 billion worldwide.

So it's no surprise that big things are in the works for James Cameron's Avatar sequels.

The second and third installments of the franchise are set to shoot simultaneously, and recently Zoe Saldana confirmed that Avatar 2 and 3 will shoot in early 2014.

"They're probably going to shoot [Avatar 2 and 3] at the same time," Saldana said, "Because if we just do two and then wait, I'll probably be 45 or 50 by the time we get to part three. It takes a long time, it's a very hard process."

Avatar 2 is scheduled to premiere in 2015.

You all probably thought The Iceman would win the box office this weekend, but nope....Iron Man 3 did.

In fact, it destroyed the weekend.

In double fact, it made more in three days than all the movies in theaters have made in any single weekend so far this year.

In triple fact, it scored the second highest opening weekend ever!

It's pretty much the opposite of the oft-discussed Fifty Shades of Grey in terms of subject matter, but a just-announced Mister Rogers biopic got us thinking:

Who should play the iconic, laconic PBS children's TV host?

"His keen ability to find good in anyone, or anything, will make for a truly inspiring cinematic experience," producer Justin Nappi says of the film.

Fred Rogers died in 2003 at age 74. An ordained minister, he hosted Mister Rogers' Neighborhood from 1968-2001 and won countless awards.

The biopic, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, will need the perfect star to embody his soothing, gentle, easy-going, mellow and optimistic style.

Beloved TV stars Ty Burrell and Steve Carell, among others, could be good fits for his childlike ways. Who do you think should play him? Vote/comment below!

Now, another franchise is capitalizing on its immutable success, as Sony has announced it is moving forward with Men in Black 4.

If you didn't expect Iron Man 3 to do well, then you haven't been paying attention.

As the first summer blockbuster, Iron Man 3 kicked off Marvel Phase 2 with a $15.6 million opening night box office gross.

Iron Man 3's opening night earnings suggest that the film will make at least $150 million in its first weekend.

Compare the numbers to The Avengers' $18.7 million, which led to record-breaking box office numbers.

Robert Downey Jr. is developing a Pinocchio movie with Warner Bros., and he is considering Ben Stiller to direct, according to reports.

Downey Jr., who may retire from Iron Man after tomorrow's Iron Man 3, originally spoke with Tim Burton to direct, but in a recent interview suggested that he could reunite with his Tropic Thunder director for the project.

Downey Jr. would play Geppetto in the live-action film, which he would produce along with his wife Susan Downey.

Little else is known about the Pinocchio project regarding story, tone, or schedule.
