Author, blogger, daughter of U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and recent Twitter photo controversy magnet Meghan McCain turns 25 on this 23rd today of October.

Happy birthday, Megs!

McCain, who was criticized for displaying some cleavage online in large part because she is a Republican and happens to have breasts, despises labels.

Well, we've got one for her just the same: Awesome!

You may not agree with everything she says, but she's refreshingly candid, secure in who she is (even if you can't put it in a box) and kinda funny, too.

Just hours after it was posted, an innocent-enough but nevertheless busty Meghan McCain Twitter photo made Sen. John McCain's daughter a (cute!) pariah.

While her judgment in posting the pic in a public forum was questionable (a fact she admits), the photo was far from slutty or attention-seeking in nature.

Meghan McCain says she is basically being labeled a slut because her breasts are above average in size and were visible in the pic, and she's got a point.

Here's are excerpts from her latest column about the controversy:

"On Wednesday, I posted a hastily taken self-portrait on Twitter - which I thought was funny and silly - and within a few hours I had caused a media scandal.

I spent the next day thinking about what was so shocking about the picture. After all, it’s not like I was making a sex tape. I certainly didn’t pose nude.

Could it be it's because I have breasts? Because for those of you who didn't know, I have two. They're larger than some women's and not as big as others.

Most Meghan McCain pictures are not as controversial as this week's.

To be honest, I don't feel I have anything to be ashamed of. I've embraced my curves and will continue to. It’s the media that have a problem with my body.

For years I have struggled to accept the fact that the way I look in a tank top comes off more “sexual” than a flat-chested woman. Once again, I was reassured by the media that someone with my cup size should always be covered up.

Or what, I’ll be seen as a slut?

When Rep. Aaron Schock or Rep. Jeff Flake post pictures without suits on, they are “hotties.” But put me in a tank top and I am suddenly an embarrassment to the Republican Party and women everywhere. The double standard is infuriating.

It's not easy to be called a slut. But I'm not giving up my Twitter just yet - I'm just going to be more judicious in how I use it. I am a work in progress.

This is the last time I’ll ever address this non-scandal but I hope that other girls can learn from this episode before they post any kind of picture online.

I learned a valuable lesson about the Internet and boundaries between personal and public use with social media. I wanted to get that off my chest."

Meghan McCain, the daughter of U.S. Senator and failed 2008 presidential candidate John McCain, caused quite a (sexy!) stir on Twitter Wednesday evening.

The 24-year-old, currently a blogger and columnist for the Daily Beast living in New York City, posted a rather, um, voluptuous picture of herself online.

You can see it drew more interest than most Meghan McCain pictures ...

She has since apologized for posting the photo, although it's still up for the world to see. Needless to say, she received plenty of feedback, good and bad.

"You should put a pink bow over this photo and call it a tribute to breast cancer awareness month," said one Twitter fan, humorously and inappropriately.

But not everyone reacted so kindly. After more than a few cries of SLUT!!!!, Megs threatened to pull a Miley Cyrus and straight up quit Twitter forever. 

She wrote: "ok I am getting the f**k off twitter, promise not to delete my account until I sleep on it, thank you for the nice words supporters."

"When I am alone in my apartment, I wear tank tops and sweat pants, I had no idea this makes me a 'slut', I can't even tell you how hurt I am ... seriously I was just trying to be funny with the book and that I'm a dork staying in."

This morning she was back to plugging her column on her page, however.

As you've probably seen and heard (approximately once a week for the past two months) Levi Johnston has been on a media tour bashing Sarah Palin.

Last year, Levi knocked up the former Alaska Governor and Republican V.P. candidate's teenage daughter Bristol, then pretended to be engaged to her until the campaign was over. Now that it is, Levi's not holding anything back!

But Meghan McCain, daughter of Palin's running mate John McCain, thinks he should focus his time and effort elsewhere. Like on raising his baby son.

"I think he should go back to Alaska and take care of his baby, which he claims he wants to be doing, but I just see him going to events," Meghan said.

Meghan McCain offers criticism of Levi, and encouragement for Tila.

Speaking to Us Weekly at a launch party for fashion blog CocoPerez in New York, the 24-year-old McCain, who is friends with Bristol Palin, said of Levi:

"If I had a child, I would be at home taking care of it."

It's not an unfair statement. Tripp Johnston, Levi's son with Bristol Palin, will be nine months old later this month, and he's been trying to pay the bills with countless interviews. But how smart is it to keep ripping Tripp's grandma?

In any case, Meghan also said her dad is "doing good" and "keeping busy," while her BFF Tila Tequila is also hanging in there. Yes, they really are friends.

Tila recently claimed San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman roughed her up over Labor Day weekend, but the D.A. decided not to press charges.

"My heart goes out to her," Meghan said. "I think she's going to do a civil trial. Obviously, I think any abuse towards a woman is just reprehensible."

Added the younger McCain of her pal Tila, "She's a fighter!"

Their parents were paired together on the Republican ticket in the 2008 election. Now Meghan McCain and Bristol Palin are both speaking up on premarital sex.

Bristol, a teen mom and the daughter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, is now a "teen ambassador" for the Candie's Foundation, and an advocate for abstinence.

You cannot make this stuff up.

Meghan McCain doesn't see eye-to-eye with her counterpart, though.

Senator John McCain's daughter, 24, says that Bristol Palin has a right to her opinion and she respects it, but there's a lot more to consider on the topic of sex.

"Daughters of Republican politicians aren't expected to have sex, let alone enjoy it - as if there were some chastity belt automatically attached to us female offspring," she writes in her column for The Daily Beast.

"God forbid that anyone talk realistically about life experiences and natural, sexual instincts. Nope, the answer is always abstinence."

So if Meghan McCain is not advocating abstinence only, like Bristol Palin is, what is her proposed solution to prevent unwanted teenage pregnancies?

"Honestly, the key is communication between parents and children. At the end of the day, the worst thing parents can do is raise children who are not prepared for the situations they may encounter, especially when they’re not planned," she says.

And she's not taking it easy on her dad's party either.

"Unfortunately, Republicans typically don’t like to discuss or deal with things they think are wrong or immoral. And that’s a huge mistake," she writes in her column, appropriately called "The GOP Doesn't Understand Sex."

"If we can’t discuss birth control in addition to abstinence, in a non-judgmental way, kids will make bad choices for lack of access to informed, safe options."

So what she's saying is, teens may have unprotected sex, get knocked up, be forced into sham engagements to their thuggish baby-daddies, and have their allowance raised if they agree to become spokespersons for sham abstinence groups?

A pregnant Heidi Montag may be April Foolery at its finest, but this bizarre BFF pairing was actually spotted on March 28, so it must be legit. And odd.

Meghan McCain and Tila Tequila, the trashy bisexual reality TV star, shared an early lunch Saturday at the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood.

"You could totally see the girls getting along," a source who observed the strange pairing said. "They seemed to be longtime friends."

During their hour-long lunch, the former nude MySpace mainstay and the daughter of U.S. Senator and former presidential hopeful John McCain were overheard chatting "about everything from politics to pop culture," adds the source.

How did these two possibly hook up?

Rumor has it Tila Tequila, 27, read somewhere that Meghan McCain, 24, looks up to her and burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese for some reason.

"They found each other on Twitter and got in touch shortly after," the source tells Us Weekly. "They definitely seemed to be fast friends."

Of course. No word on whether Meghan McCain's weight was an issue the two discussed at lunch, or whether they will become more than friends. Come on, it's Tila Tequila. We had to go there. You know you were thinking it.

Conservative pundit Laura Ingraham weighed in on the flap over the weight of Meghan McCain - blaming "the Obama attack dogs" for trying to manufacture a feud.

"Let the record show I never called Meghan McCain fat. She isn't," Ingraham said. "It's another left-wing attempt to silence any criticism of the liberal agenda."

Unfortunately for the talk show host, that's not true. The audio record does show that she ridiculed the 24-year-old McCain on her radio show on March 11.

In a valley girl accent undoubtedly meant to mock Meghan McCain, Ingraham said, "I was really hoping that I was going to get that role in the Real World, but then I realized that, well, they don't like plus-sized models." Oooh, that one hurt.

In the past few weeks, Meghan McCain has angered conservatives with her attacks on "extremists" in the Republican party, including Ann Coulter.

"Okay, Meghan. Do you think that anyone would be talking to you if you weren't kind of cute and you weren’t the daughter of John McCain," said Ingraham. "Or would just think that you were just another Valley Girl gone awry?"

Meghan McCain is sick of the debate about her weight.

After the 24-year-old daughter of U.S. Senator and former GOP presidential hopeful John McCain criticized Anne Coulter and other conservatives in an online column, political commentator Laura Ingraham heckled her on her radio show last week.

Ingraham tore into Meghan McCain as "just another Valley Girl gone awry," and even went on to mock McCain in a faux Valley Girl voice, saying that she didn't get a "role in the Real World" because "they don't like plus-sized models."

Ouch. Hitting back on The View today, Meghan McCain said she can't believe Ingraham went after her weight instead of actually talking about the issues.

"What do young women think when I speak my mind about politics, and I want to have a political discussion about the ideological future of the Republican party, and the answer is, 'she's fat, she shouldn't have an opinion?'" she said.

"What kind of message are we sending young women? ... It infuriates me. I'm a political writer on a blog, and all of a sudden I'm too fat to write?"

"I couldn't possibly imagine how any woman could criticize another woman's weight. I work out at the gym and try and eat healthy, but I'm still a size 8."

Enduring taunts about her body since she was in grade school, Meghan McCain - a vocal campaign supporter of her dad last year - said she is fed up.

"Why are we so obsessed with weight?" she said.

"When Tyra Banks went on her show in her bathing suit and said, 'Kiss my fat ass...' That's what I feel right now. I'm like, 'Kiss my fat ass!'"

Added McCain, "There is no place for weight criticism in 2009."

Meghan McCain feels for Bristol Palin.

Not only is she expecting her first child at a very early age in the public spotlight, but "it's a rough go being the son or daughter of a politician," John McCain's daughter, 24, writes on her official site, the McCain Blogette.

Having been on "political stages and in campaigns since before I could walk or talk," Meghan McCain continues, "it is often difficult to establish your identity and independence as the son or daughter of a politician."

The younger McCain recalls how when she was 14, a reporter asked her father "about me having a hypothetical abortion, had I been pregnant at 14."

Bristol Palin, 17, is pregnant with boyfriend Levi Johnston's child. Mom Sarah Palin, the Governor of Alaska, is McCain's running mate.

After a week of controversy, Sarah Palin addresses the Republican National Convention tonight. No matter what happens to the McCain-Palin ticket in this presidential election, Meghan McCain has Bristol Palin's back.

"I have not known Bristol Palin long, but there is a kinship I feel to her as I do other political daughters such as Chelsea Clinton, Jenna and Barbara Bush and Mary Cheney. You can't fully understand it unless you have lived it. So I wanted to let it be known that I support Bristol and the entire Palin family."
