By the time you finish reading this short article, George Clooney may have found a new girlfriend.

For now, however, he's dating actress Elisabetta Canalis; and, according to a close, famous pal, the couple is great together.

"She is a really, really wonderful woman," Matt Damon told People this week. "It's nice to see my friend so happy."

For now, Elisabetta Canalis is the latest hottie on the handsome arm of George Clooney.

A rumor that actor Matt Damon is dead after reportedly being found in the desert over the web last night, but fortunately (and not surprisingly) it is false.

Some of the Matt Damon is dead rumors state TMZ as reporting the death. Not only is the rumor false, the attribution of the story to TMZ is also false.

The Academy Award-winning actor is not dead, but is in Venice, attending the Venice Film Festival and giving interviews about his new film, The Informant.

Yet somehow, by last night, Matt Damon was dead, at least according to publications who think it's the height of comedy to get people riled up like this.

No need to say goodbye to Matt Damon. He's not dead!

According to one incarnation of the rumor (via Bollywood 91), Matt Damon wrote on his blog that he was going to the desert to search for gold and adventure.

The rumor is fairly detailed in its construction, noting that Damon realizes what he's doing is dangerous. Add in a bogus TMZ sourcing and voila, death rumor.

Also disturbingly and randomly, albeit less detailed, is the supposed death of Dancing with the Stars winner and Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson last night.

The New England Patriots star, actor Matt Damon and various other celebs are apparently the targets of numerous, superfluous searches conducted by law enforcement authorities across the state of Massachusetts.

Officials privy to the audit that turned up the head-scratching statistics told the paper that law-enforcement officers performed 968 searches on Brady.

Inquiries into his home address, gun-ownership record, driver's license info, Social Security number and other stats on the QB were conducted.

Other high-profile types who were also the target of "repeated searches and queries" included Damon, James Taylor, and Boston Celtics star Paul Pierce.

The verdict: The Massachusetts Criminal Offender Record Information system is highly flawed and is vulnerable to use "without any apparent work-related justification," according to state Auditor A. Joseph DeNucci's findings.

Really? After 968 searches? You think?

On the flip side, the system is utilized 13 million times a month, so the total number of inappropriate searches is relatively minuscule - and who wouldn't want to see if there were random celebrity mug shots kicking around somewhere?

"I'm fairly comfortable in saying that 99 percent do not misuse the system," executive director Curtis Wood told the Boston Globe.

"At the risk of being forward, if you asked me (which you didn't) I would suggest Patriots quarterback Tom Brady for this award. He's like a taller, better looking version of me anyway. Plus, he's the best quarterback in the history of football."

Matt Damon says thanks for the award, then cedes to Tom Brady.

Well, there you have it! Not only is New England 9-0, but they've got the sexiest man on Earth leading the way in Tom Brady. Surely Gisele Bundchen agrees.

Elsewhere, skinny-dipping enthusiast and Lost star, Matthew Fox, says that his affinity for swimming in his birthday suit is mostly about shock value.

"When I was a kid there wasn't a huge delineation in our family between having clothes on or not having clothes on. And the reason I have so much fun doing it now is people are so shocked by it, and, like, 'Oh, my God, Fox just took his clothes off!'" the 40-year-old actor star tells Men's Journal.

In other male nudity news: Matt Damon told the New York Daily News' Rush & Molloy what it was like free ballin' in Robert De Niro's spy drama The Good Shepherd.

His character engages in your basic naked mud wrestling as part of his initiation into the Yale secret society Skull & Bones.

"You go, you take off all your clothes, you get lathered up with mud and you wrestle," said the actor, who did it even though he's "36 years old and my naked wrestling days are over."

Alas, Damon also lamented how cold it was on the set. Yes, there was shrinkage. Which we understand.
