The 2002 movie Drumline stars Nick Cannon as a talented street drummer that, according to IMDB, "initially flounders in his new world, before realizing that it takes more than talent to reach the top."

That quote might as well sum up Nick Cannon's love life, as well.

Having floundered in the dating world with Kim Kardashian and Selita Ebanks in the past, it's now apparent Cannon desires more, seeking a soulmate that brings more than just large breasts and lingerie to the table.

Enter Mariah Carey, the most successful solo artist of all-time.

Years ago, she sang about a "hero [coming] along, with the strength to carry on," but none of her rumored flings fit that bill. Eminem, Marcus Schenkenberg and Derek Jeter were nothing but time and panty fillers until Mariah's true hero came along.

Now that he's arrived, let's let Carey explain why this marriage is meant to last: "We really feel we are soulmates. I never felt love like this was in the cards for me."

The singer met new husband Nick Cannon on the set of "Bye, Bye." Evidently, portraying lovers on screen led this pair to become lovers... for life!

The celebrity gossip world has been buzzing with rumors that Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon went from engaged to married in a shorter period of time than it took Britney Spears to from hot to vomit-inducing.

According to family member Linda Cannon, the couple is, in fact, hitched.

"Yes, we know," she told E! Online. "He called us and told us all about it. We are happy for him. If that is what he wants then we are happy for him."

We can only wonder if Cannon's ex-girlfriends, Selita Ebanks and Kim Kardashian, feel the same way.

The rumors appear to be true: Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are engaged.

Carey met the 27-year-old rapper/actor when he directed the video for her latest single, "Bye Bye," in late March.

An insider told Us Weekly that the romance was "hot and heavy," while Cannon has been quoted as saying he loves "everything" about Mariah.

Previously, Carey has been married to music mogul Tommy Mottola, while Cannon has been engaged to Selita Ebanks and seriously involved with Kim Kardashian.

** Update: as of 2 p.m. EST, reports are coming in that Carey and Cannon are already married. They supposedly tied the knot in a small island ceremony.

While merely a rumor at this point, the singer wore a giant, sparkling ring on her left hand during the afterparty for her new film, Tennessee, on Saturday night. Cannon remained close by her side.

The new couple held hands at the party, which followed the movie's premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. Cannon's rep had no comment on the topic, but the man who once dated Kim Kardashian was asked what he liked about Carey and replied:

"Everything."

Awww, we're overcome with happiness, and nausea, for this couple already.
