Maggie Gyllenhaal says motherhood made her a better actress, but now she wants to spend more time at home than in front of the cameras.

“I think having a child changes everything and has deepened everything in my life,” said Gyllenhaal, mom to 20-month-old daughter Ramona.

“It really does crack you open in every conceivable way. I never knew that I could be so tired. I never knew that I could work so hard. I never knew that I could love so much or be so patient or be so excited by the tiniest, tiniest little thing. Everything about it has surprised me,” Maggie said.

It took next month’s The Dark Knight, in which Gyllenhaal co-stars with Christian Bale and the late Heath Ledger, to get her back to work.

From the looks of the previews, it was well worth it.

At home, Maggie Gyllenhaal says she receives tremendous support balancing parenthood and career from fiancé, Peter Sarsgaard.

“We share absolutely equally,” she explained, and added that her younger brother Jake Gyllenhaal is “a great uncle.”

When lingerie line Agent Provocateur was looking for a new face - or, well, body - for its ad campaign, it went in an unconventional direction: quality actress Maggie Gyllenhaal.

“Maggie is not an obvious sex symbol,” said Serena Rees, co-founder of Agent Provocateur. “She is interesting looking, confident and beautiful in a way that is non-threatening, which makes her appealing to men and women alike.”

We can’t argue with that, as Gyllenhaal replaces supermodel Kate Moss as Provocateur spokesmodel.

We had initially reported that Rachel McAdams was on board for the next Batman movie, Dark Knight. But please allow us a mulligan.

It’s now been confirmed that Maggie Gyllenhaal will take over the role of Rachel Dawes in the upcoming follow-up to Batman Begins. Yes, that’s the role played by Katie Holmes, who reportedly had to drop out due to schedule conflict; aka, a demand by her insane husband.

Or is Mrs. Cruise not available because she’ll be knocked up with a sibling for Suri Cruise? We’ll be sure to keep you posted.

Either way, director Christopher Nolan is psyched to have Gyllenhaal in the film: “I’m extremely excited to work with an actress of Maggie’s caliber, and she’s a great addition to the cast as we continue our story.”

Others in the cast include Heath Ledger as the Joker and Aaron Eckhart as the villain, Two-Face.

Meanwhile, the involvement of Gyllenhaal will likely leave adorable celebrity baby Ramona in the hands of her father, Peter Sarsgaard for awhile. But that’s okay. We’d trust him with our kid.

That said, here’s one of the celebrity babies we definitely don’t see enough of. With fiancé Peter Sarsgaard at the Sundance Film Festival to promote their short film High Falls, Maggie Gyllenhaal and 3-month-old daughter Ramona kick back at Sunday brunch with a pal.

Where’s little baby Ramona? Hiding behind all those crazy Gyllenhaals! Dad Peter Sarsgaard shielded the 2-week-old under his coat while out and about with fiancée Maggie Gyllenhaal and her mom, Naomi Foner, and her brother, Jake Gyllenhaal, in New York City’s West Village on Sunday.

When he’s not looking at other women’s vaginas, Sarsgaard is content to play dad and hang out with Maggie’s fam. When he’s not chilling with BFF Lance Armstrong, Jake is content to settle for Peter Sarsgaard.

Peter Sarsgaard is not going to be homeless.

The Garden State star, fiancee Maggie Gyllenhaal and their newborn baby, Ramona, were about to be evicted from their New York City apartment after a dispute with their landlords. The young family faced eviction from their $5,000-a-month pad in downtown Manhattan after two of the three owners of her building argued they didn’t have a valid lease.

The owners began eviction proceeding against Sarsgaard and Gyllenhaal back in February, claiming her lease wasn’t valid because it had only been signed by the third owner of the apartment.

Gyllenhaal, 28, filed an affidavit reading:

“I am residing in the subject premises pursuant to a lease duly executed by one of the owners of the subject premises.”

Manhattan Civil Court Judge Marc Finkelstein agreed, noting that “she has paid and continues to pay all the rent under that lease.”

The sister of Jake Gyllenhaal moved into the apartment in 2005, and has the option to stay through the end of 2007, but the lengthy dispute has apparently convinced the couple it is high time they moved on.

Maggie and Peter, also known as Gyllenhaarsgaard, have reportedly signed a contract to buy a townhouse in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The Gossip has learned that Maggie Gyllenhaal gave birth to her first child yesterday in a New York area hospital at about 8 p.m. Maggie and her fiancee / baby’s daddy, Peter Sarsgaard, welcomed a little girl to their cute household.

Maggie and Peter decided to name their daughter Ramona Sarsgaard. Ramona was born around 8 p.m. at a NYC hospital. The newborn’s arrival came two weeks before Maggie’s expected delivery.

This is the first child for Maggie, 28, and Peter, 35. Congratulations to the new parents. These are definitely going to be the best celebrity baby pictures ever. Somebody get Vanity Fair on the phone, ASAP!
