Musicians are forever pushing the envelope, honing their crafts, stretching their limits.

Or they're just trying to get as many #1 hits as possible in order to sell more records and make more money to buy big cribs with multi-car garages and basketball courts in the basement.

To that end, artists frequently collaborate with other artists to experiment with style and sound. Sometimes they cross the genre lines and what results is... unexpected.

Nearly an entire season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta was dedicated to Kandi Burruss' quest for songwriting credits in Country music and she teamed up with Sara Evans to make it happen.

Some of these collaborations are wildly more successful than others, but when rap meets country or when pop meets metal, it feels weird. So weird it's good.

Here are 11 weird musical collaborations that totally work. Get ready to groove!

Katy Perry and Juicy J - Dark Horse
Academy Award winner Juicy J's inclusion on Katy Perry's "Dark Horse" made the song sure to be a hit instead of a, well, dark horse.

The Lonely Island has taken to Between Two Ferns for the release of their music video for "Spring Break Anthem."

The video highlights how freakin' awesome it is to go get hammered with your bros at Spring Break... and also how amazing it feels to be in a loving, lifelong relationship.

Of course, TLI brings BTF into the mix by having the program's host, Zach Galifianakis, interview James Franco, star of Spring Breakers.

But then we get to see some amazing iterations of what gay marriage would like like between the bunch, with Edward Norton even thrown into the mix.

I think they all make very handsome couples.

Michael Bolton may prefer to sit around and watch movies all day, but the guys from Lonely Island are straight gangsta. Like any hard core rappers, the trio makes it rain at the club - and has now affiliated itself with its own vodka brand.

As Creative Directors behind RÖKK, the newest vodka on the market, Akiva Schaffer, Jorma Taccone, and Andy Samberg are responsible for consumer engagement, marketing and advertising for the premium priced, freeze filtered vodka.

Here's their hilarious, debut promotional spot:

The Lonely Island performed at the Emmy Awards Sunday, marking a rare live performance by the SNL trio of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone.

The guys were joined by Michael Bolton on "Jack Sparrow" before giving way to Lonely Island stand-ins Ed Helms, John Stamos and Maya Rudolph on "3-Way".

Akon then came on to belt out the chrous from "I Just Had Sex", with an assist from Bolton and the guys at the end. It was ... different at least. Take a look:

Hilarious as those guys are, did the live effort fell a bit short? High expectations didn't help them, but it felt a little forced, and yet lacking at the same time.

It's not as funny when the hilarious comedic crew has to censor every other word ... or when other people stand in for Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga.

Why not go with only "Jack Sparrow"? Bolton's big, sexy hook (and watching him attempt to pull off all the costume changes) would have been priceless.

In any case, props to them for trying something so ambitious if nothing else. Here are the original videos for each of the above songs for comparison ...

Michael Bolton joins the guys from The Lonely Island in their latest single, released in the form of an SNL Digital Short and dedicated to Jack Sparrow.

Yes, you read that right.

Even Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer can't believe Michael Bolton is singing the hook ... then gradually hijacking their entire song.

We've been laughing at Michael Bolton's Office Space quotes for years ... but who knew the real Bolton was hilarious - and such a huge Pirates fan?

The Lonely Island - Akiva Schaffer, Jorma Taccone, and Andy Samberg - are back and badder than ever. The world needs them. Seriously, b!tches, take heed.

Their new album Turtleneck & Chain (a reference to their hit "I Just Had Sex") is due out May 10. They're back, baby, and track #1 off T&C lets you know it.

Here's the disturbing, hilarious and VERY NSFW "We're Back" ...

Okay, so it's no "I'm on a Boat" or "Lazy Sunday." But you have to give these guys credit for their unique, warped sense of humor and musical "style."
