Peter Kowalczyk was jealous of the fact that Leona Lewis won the British TV talent show X Factor while he was turned down, according to The Sun (UK).

Naturally, he acted on that jealousy by waiting five hours to meet Leona Lewis yesterday at her book signing event, then punched her in the face.

A shocked Leona screamed and cried, "Oh my God" as the tall, buck-toothed nut job attacked, catching her on the temple with a fierce right hook.

She clutched her head and burst into tears as she was whisked away from the event (to promote her autobiography Dreams) and escorted to a hospital.

Five security guards jumped Peter Kowalczyk and pinned him to the ground. He was charged with assault before being taken to a psychiatric hospital.

Leona's furious boyfriend, Lou Al-Chamaa, who was with her at the signing, tried to confront the warped fan but was held back by the authorities.

The 2006 X Factor winner, now a global star, was checked for a concussion at London's Harley Street Hospital, but appears to have escaped with bruising.

Kowalczyk had bought a copy of Dreams and seemed to be waiting patiently for Leona Lewis to sign it at Waterstones in Piccadilly like every other fan.

But as those around him in line chatted to each other, he stayed silent and aloof. He said nothing as he reached the front and unleashed his punch.

A spokesman for Leona, whose next single is called HAPPY, said last night:

"It was totally unprovoked. Leona had been patiently signing people's books for a while - this man had been waiting for five hours. Why anyone would hit her I don't know. Leona is shaken and apologises to the fans she was unable to meet."

Waterstones said in a statement: "We would like to thank Leona for her professionalism and we are extremely sad that this event was ruined for her, and her fans, many of whom queued from the early hours of the morning to meet her."

Following the donning of a t-shirt that claimed "Real Women Eat Meat," Simpson must now face questions as to how one would describe Lewis, who has been named Sexiest Vegetarian of 2008 by PETA. (Red Hot Chili Peppers singer Anthony Kiedis shared the honor.)

The British singer beat out better known vegetarians such as Kristen Bell, Milo Ventimiglia, Abbie Cornish and Hayden Panettiere for the award.

"I am totally against animal cruelty," Lewis said, who also knocked off perpetual The Hollywood Gossip favorite and Simpson rival Carrie Underwood in the poll. "I am vegetarian so I don't have clothes, shoes, or bags made from leather or suede or any animal products… I'm on a mission."

Still, that doesn't mean she wants animals to bleed and die in the name of breakfast, lunch or dinner. The British singer "has always adored animals since she was a little girl and has been a vegetarian since the age of 12," a source said.

We love Leona Lewis. And she loves animals. No wonder her and Simon Cowell are friends. Zing!

As a result, Lewis is set to launch a vegan clothing line.

"The reason she doesn't wear diamonds is because she doesn't know how they have been sourced. It was for this reason that she is determined to set up her own ethical fashion range and sell the goods at high street prices," the source told UK's Hello Magazine.

On American Idol Wednesday night, viewers were treated to a performance by Leona Lewis. The British singer is currently the top-selling new artist in the world.

And it was apparent that David Cook and David Archuleta - sitting safely on the couch after being told they were safe - were big fans. The pair of favorites took advantage of their view, relaxing and rocking to the song.

Randy Jackson bobbed his head, during the song "Bleeding Love," while Paula Abdul danced and Simon Cowell, the man who discovered this new talent, just smiled like a proud father.

Nevertheless, this talented singer won't be donning her birthday suit in the name of it any time soon.

"I'm not that confident! I think it's a strong statement, and I really respect it because it's for a great cause," Lewis said. "I would love to do something for great causes like that, but I just don't think I could pose nude, because I'm not that brave."

Come on, Leona. Compared to Trishelle Cannatella nude, you're a super model.

Perez Hilton needs to get a life.

The law-breaking celebrity blogger spends every second of free time tracking down famous people, taking pictures with them and then probably tacking those shots to his refrigerator in an attempt to feel cool.

Some supposed stars, such as Tara Reid, don't mind. They need the exposure, too.

But you can see that Kristin Cavallari was none too pleased that Perez shoved his fake smile and annoying head into her personal space.

The latest celebrity to be stuck posing with Hilton is British singing sensation, Leona Lewis. Look for her on American Idol later this year - and perhaps a police station later this month, filing a complaint about Perez.

The British singer is climbing up the UK charts and recently won X Factor, the equivalent of American Idol for our English counterparts. What, you've never heard of her?

Don't worry, Lewis will soon be as well known as Kristin Cavallari is these parts.

How come? Because Simon Cowell is bringing the 21-year old along for Idol's sixth season. She'll make a guest appearance some time in the next couple months.

The cantakerous judge compares this beautiful Brit to American singers such as Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. Sadly, you know what that means, right, Leona?
