If Jessica Simpson is to be believed, Leona Lewis is not a real woman.

Following the donning of a t-shirt that claimed “Real Women Eat Meat,” Simpson must now face questions as to how one would describe Lewis, who has been named Sexiest Vegetarian of 2008 by PETA. (Red Hot Chili Peppers singer Anthony Kiedis shared the honor.)

The British singer beat out better known vegetarians such as Kristen Bell, Milo Ventimiglia, Abbie Cornish and Hayden Panettiere for the award.

“I am totally against animal cruelty,” Lewis said, who also knocked off perpetual The Hollywood Gossip favorite and Simpson rival Carrie Underwood in the poll. “I am vegetarian so I don’t have clothes, shoes, or bags made from leather or suede or any animal products… I’m on a mission.”

Still, that doesn’t mean she wants animals to bleed and die in the name of breakfast, lunch or dinner. The British singer “has always adored animals since she was a little girl and has been a vegetarian since the age of 12,” a source said.

We love Leona Lewis. And she loves animals. No wonder her and Simon Cowell are friends. Zing!

As a result, Lewis is set to launch a vegan clothing line.

“The reason she doesn’t wear diamonds is because she doesn’t know how they have been sourced. It was for this reason that she is determined to set up her own ethical fashion range and sell the goods at high street prices,” the source told UK’s Hello Magazine.

On American Idol Wednesday night, viewers were treated to a performance by Leona Lewis. The British singer is currently the top-selling new artist in the world.

And it was apparent that David Cook and David Archuleta - sitting safely on the couch after being told they were safe - were big fans. The pair of favorites took advantage of their view, relaxing and rocking to the song.
