After Larry Platt serenaded American Idol viewers with "Pants on the Ground" earlier this month, Simon Cowell said he feared the song would become a major hit.

The judge was right, partly because Fox has marketed it that way - but also because professional football stars have taken an unusual liking to the single.

Following his team's Divisional Round playoff victory over the Dallas Cowboys, Vikings quarterback Brett Favre led a team celebration by reciting the tune.

More recently, Carolina running back DeAngelo Williams posted a video of his "Pants on the Ground" remix. Check it out below:

Meanwhile, Platt himself actually showed up at a Vikings' team meeting over the weekend.

His performance drew raucous cheers and laughter, though it would also serve as a harbinger for what came next: Minnesota lost to New Orleans yesterday in the NFC Championship Game, as Favre ended the season by figuratively dropping his pants on national TV.

His regulation-ending interception cost the Vikings a spot in the Super Bowl.

Larry Platt - sorry, General Larry Platt - made quite an impression on American Idol viewers last night.

The 63-year old ended the Atlanta auditions' broadcast with a single titled "Pants on the Ground." It's quickly become an Internet and Twitter sensation.

But who the heck is this guy? And how did he end up on the show? The Atlanta Journal-Constitution tracked Platt down and asked him a few questions over the phone. Apparently, he...

... "loved" his depiction on Idol. I thought it played "real good."

... thought of the song spontaneously three years ago when he saw a guy walking through downtown Atlanta with a baby in his arm and his pants slipping below his hips. “He had his underwear showing,” Platt said.

Larry Platt

... was shot in the eye when he was three.

... refers to himself as “General” because "I'm a general of the civil rights movement." Records show that he did march with Martin Luther King Jr. and Hosea Williams in the 1960s.

... condluded the interview by saing: “Be a man. Don’t be walking around showing yourself to the world! I don’t think that’s right!”

Amen, General. Amen.

Last year, there was Bikini Girl.

This year, there's General Larry Platt.

Each season, American Idol airs the audition of an outlandish contestant that gets cataputed into the spotlight for approximately 15 minutes. Rarely is that individual 62 years old and singing about his pants on the ground, however.

But that's exactly what took place in Atlanta last night, as a man that referred to himself as "General Larry Platt" (pictured) caused the judges to crack up with a single that included the lyrics:

Pants on the ground
Lookin’ like a fool with your pants on the ground
With the gold in your mouth, hat turned sideways
Pants hit the ground, call yourself a cool cat
Lookin’ like a fool, walkin’ to the town
With your pants on the ground!

General Larry Platt

Is it wrong that the show ended the episode with this man, as opposed to one of the truly talented singers that received a ticket to Hollywood, such as Keia Johnson, Jermaine Sellers, Mallorie Haley, Bryan Walker? Nah, it's just American Idol!
