Anyway, Jessica later had another choice line regarding her new CD: “I really just wanted to showcase the talent that God has given me. I don’t believe that, in pop music, I ever had the chance to stand on two feet and stand firm.”

Umm, riiiight… Sorry, Jess, but the “God-given talent” reasoning only works in regards to your lingerie line, not your alleged singing or acting.

Not on his playoff failures as an NFL quarterback. Oh no. The Dallas Cowboys star is going on the record regarding more important things.

“It’s all laughable,” he said of the celebrity gossip world’s recent characterizations of him as a pawn of Jessica and Joe Simpson.

This is Romo’s first public comment following reports that Joe Simpson is a meddling influence - both with his relationship with Jessica Simpson and his business life - and that his own parents dislike the Simpsons.

Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo have been dogged by rumors that her father has been interfering throughout their nearly seven-month-old courtship.

Romo insists that is “so far from the truth.”

He even said his father, Ramiro, went to the Masters golf tournament in Augusta, Ga., with Joe Simpson earlier this year and “had a great time.”

In the wake of recent celebrity news stories that he was the main source behind Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo almost breaking up (twice now), Joe Simpson tells Extra he’s not the controlling father we think he is.

“The media says that I try to plan everything - If I had half of the power they give me… They [Ashlee and Jessica] don’t call me and ask me. They call me and tell me,” Crazy Joe told the celebrity news program.

He adds that Jessica Simpson “… is as happy as I’ve seen her in years.” and gushes about Dallas Cowboys quarterback Romo, “He is such a great guy. I love Tony to death … He’s just a good kid.”

Come on. Who wouldn’t trust Joe Simpson, right?

Several sources reported that Joe Simpson asked Tony Romo, 28, to dump his agent and allow him to help represent him. As tension grew, the NFL star gave Jessica an ultimatum: Tell your dad to frickin’ back off!

He’s even worse than we thought! Us Weekly reports that Jessica Simpson’s pimp father, Joe Simpson, brought her relationship with Tony Romo to the brink.

That we pretty much knew going in. But according to the story, Joe’s actions specifically were the main source behind their split in May.

Joe Simpson asked Tony Romo to drop his agent - so he could personally take over his NFL career and $67.5 million contract with Dallas.

He even offered to “sell” his engagement and wedding to a celebrity gossip magazine should Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson get engaged.

As tension grew, the Cowboys quarterback gave the alleged singer and actress an ultimatum: Tell dad to back the hell off!

When asked for comment, Joe Simpson defended himself, saying “It’s unfair to criticize me for what every manager does for his or her clients.”

“In this business, where people can quickly turn on you, who better than a parent to be working for his children?”

For now, Romo and Simpson are back on, in “a talking stage.” Adds the source of their relationship, “it’s in a middle-of-the-road state.”

Despite all the breakup talk, Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo are back together, but a college friend of the Dallas Cowboys quarterback says Romo’s insisting on calling the plays from now on.

“He did agree to go to [sister Ashlee's] wedding - keeping his promise to Jessica,” Romo’s Eastern Illinois alum pal told the Chicago Sun-Times.

“But he made it super-clear that if they were to give it another go, her dad, Joe, had to seriously back off.”

Joe Simpson, a former minister and current pimp, has long been seen as an overbearing presence, managing both his daughters’ careers.

Never thought you’d hear that one, did you? Sadly for you overweight peeps (cough, Britney Spears), Joe Simpson is impeding the path to good health!

Well, at least indirectly, according to a dude suing him.

Jessica Simpson’s pimp, manager and father has been hit with a lawsuit from a fitness company, Speedfit, for blocking the sale of a DVD starring Jessica.

After signing a multi-million contract, Jessica Simpson  recorded a workout tape for Speedfit shortly before shooting her “breakthrough” role as Daisy Duke in 2005’s embarrassment to the film industry, The Dukes of Hazzard.

Jessica Simpson then changed her mind about doing the tape and Joe Simpson got involved to ban its release, Speedfit is claiming in its legal deposition.

Speedfit owner Alex Astilean has filed suit against Joe after failing to secure a $10 million settlement from his daughter last year.

“They are hurting millions of fat people in America!” Astilean tells Us Weekly. “I believe that very strongly. They held the video for years!”

Pierce Brosnan’s wife, Keeley Shaye Smith, had no comment.

A day after calling out Jessica Simpson for showing up and distracting Tony Romo during the Dallas Cowboys’ loss to Philadelphia, star receiver Terrell Owens is now saying he was kidding and didn’t mean to cause trouble.

“I tried to get [Tony Romo] to call her so I can explain to her that she doesn’t really know me and that I can be funny,” Terrell Owens, a.k.a. T.O., told the Dallas Morning News. “Everything I say, the media will take it and run with it. It’s not a big deal. I will try to rectify the situation between her and I.”

We can only imagine the hilarity that would ensue if said phone conversation were to actually take place. Probably something along the lines of this …

TO: Um, this is Terrell Owens. I, uh, I was…
Joe Simpson: Are you threatening one of my employees?
TO: Look man, I-

Apparently the star Dallas Cowboys quarterback, who has been pining for Jess for ages, can do no wrong in the mind of Joe Simpson, a huge fan of America’s Team.

So when Tony Romo recently asked to take Jessica Simpson out for a drink, the patriarch was more than happy to oblige. In fact, it went so well between Jess and Tony that Romo came over to the Simpsons on Thanksgiving Day, for turkey and perhaps, a little stuffing. Sorry, that was crass. But too easy. Says a source:

“Jessica is happy. She’s been texting everyone about how great [Tony Romo] is.”

We’re guessing she doesn’t mean his throwing arm, if you know what we mean. All we have to say about this is that we feel sorry for poor Sophia Bush.
