Citing a text message from J.R. Rotem, who clearly sent no such text, as evidence that Britney Spears is pregnant was the mag's finest hour.

This is a close second.

We'd love to know what "facts" the celebrity news magazine is using in its new cover story - that Tony Romo is betraying Jessica Simpson because he hasn't given up on his previous celebrity ex, Carrie Underwood!

Don't get us wrong, Tony Romo would get props from us if this were true.

After all, Carrie Underwood is the epitome of natural beauty - not to mention a down-home gal with a brain, a great voice, and a lack of insane parents.

But we're not buying it.

For one, Joe Simpson has Tony Romo under constant surveillance, making a secret rendezvous a logistical impossibility. Second, why would Carrie take him back, after he broke up with her to focus on football, then took up with Jessica?

He's even worse than we thought! Us Weekly reports that Jessica Simpson's pimp father, Joe Simpson, brought her relationship with Tony Romo to the brink.

That we pretty much knew going in. But according to the story, Joe's actions specifically were the main source behind their split in May.

Joe Simpson asked Tony Romo to drop his agent - so he could personally take over his NFL career and $67.5 million contract with Dallas.

He even offered to "sell" his engagement and wedding to a celebrity gossip magazine should Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson get engaged.

As tension grew, the Cowboys quarterback gave the alleged singer and actress an ultimatum: Tell dad to back the hell off!

When asked for comment, Joe Simpson defended himself, saying "It's unfair to criticize me for what every manager does for his or her clients."

"In this business, where people can quickly turn on you, who better than a parent to be working for his children?"

For now, Romo and Simpson are back on, in "a talking stage." Adds the source of their relationship, "it's in a middle-of-the-road state."

Despite all the breakup talk, Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo are back together, but a college friend of the Dallas Cowboys quarterback says Romo's insisting on calling the plays from now on.

"He did agree to go to [sister Ashlee's] wedding - keeping his promise to Jessica," Romo's Eastern Illinois alum pal told the Chicago Sun-Times.

"But he made it super-clear that if they were to give it another go, her dad, Joe, had to seriously back off."

Joe Simpson, a former minister and current pimp, has long been seen as an overbearing presence, managing both his daughters' careers.

While clearly successful at what he does - look at how much money he's made off two airheads with no talent - Joe Simpson has earned a reputation as a guy who's, um, extremely difficult to work with.

The Sun-Times says Tony Romo told Jessica Simpson that their renewed relationship is on a trial basis, so long as Joe "leaves them alone" and stops telling Romo how to run his life, career and endorsement deals.

Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson have been seen together in recent days, after the solo vacation Jessica took in Cabo San Lucas following the pregnant, talentless Ashlee Simpson's marriage to Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz.

After a brief split, the pair reunited in Dallas for Memorial Day weekend, sharing a corner booth at N9Ne steakhouse on Saturday night.

It all makes sense now.

Who would pay that for just Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz? No one we know. And why would Joe Simpson care so much that Tony Romo attended, begging him personally to come and "support the family" at the last minute?

Support them financially is what he meant. Why are we not surprised?

Of course, Jessica and Tony broke up just before the wedding. Getting the idea why he still showed now? Jared Leto ain't gonna sell celeb news magazines!

People, for its part, wanted to put a pic of Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo as an inset on the cover - after all, they're a hot couple. Ashlee and Pete? Eh...

That's the word on the streets, though the guilty party denies it.

Jared Leto's rep has come out swinging and slamming a National Enquirer report that Jessica Simpson cheated on Tony Romo with his client.

"There is no truth whatsoever to that," Leto's manager, Jason Weinberg, told Us Weekly of the rumor that Jared and Jessica are boinking.

MSNBC, quoting a "source" close to Jessica Simpson, is reporting that Tony Romo's attendance at her sis Ashlee's wedding Saturday was a "test" Romo needed to pass if there was any hope of keeping their relationship alive.

"They've broken up a hundred times," said the source. "They'd had another of their ‘breakups' before the wedding, but it was clear that he had to go as Jess' date if there was any hope that the relationship would work out."

As one of our staff members argued in yesterday's face-off, Tony Romo just can't seem to quit Jessica. No matter how annoying her ass gets or how badly Joe Simpson meddles, he just keeps on coming back.

To me, it's an easy call. While there will be ups and downs in the coming months, Tony Romo will end up marrying Jessica Simpson because:

• He's tried to dump her twice already and got roped back.
• He's obviously gone Hollywood and wants to be famous more than anything, including win playoff games.
• Those are some gigantic boobs.

Seriously people. After striking out with Carrie Underwood, Alli Sims and Sophia Bush, Romo struck Hollywood gold with Jessica Simpson.

So much money. So much fame. Such huge breasts. So little talent with which to ever upstage him. Such little effort required on his part to keep her pathetic ass satisfied and off his case. Such enormous boobs.

Face it folks. The star QB may try to run, but the pocket will inevitably collapse - as we saw in February when she groveled for him to come back, or last week when Papa Joe guilted him. Like it or not, Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson are in this for life.

Jessica Simpson was seen having a sushi lunch at Katsuya with Tony Romo in L.A. on Friday after three weeks of not being photographed together and widespread reports that the football star and rumored singer had broken up.

On Monday, Jessica Simpson's rep denied that the pair had split, but her PR people then stayed silent all week regarding the couple's status.

Pictures of Tony Romo partying in Chicago with a Jessica look-a-like named Lindsay certainly fueled speculation that he had moved on from Simpson.

With one daughter devastated over two recent breakups and another daughter preggers and tying the knot tomorrow, it's chaos in the Simpson household.

As we reported earlier, Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson are broken up - but her dad still wants the quarterback to hit up Ashlee's weekend wedding!

Crazy Joe Simpson, Ashlee and Jessica's pimp and father, "called Tony and asked him to come to show support for the wedding," Us reports.

It's unclear if Tony Romo accepted Joe's request, but he's scheduled to fly to L.A. - where the wedding will take place - this weekend.

Tony Romo wasn't present at a bachelor party Joe Simpson threw for Pete Wentz, Ashlee Simpson's finace, and a few pals at Mr. Chow Thursday night.
