As the nation marks the one-year anniversary of the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina, everyone from politicians to reporters is talking about New Orleans. Lots of people say we ought to help the Crescent City, but one celeb is walking the walk and talking the talk. Hilary Duff.

The Duffmeister has worked with USA Harvest -- the organization that helps service over 5,400 agencies nationally and has come up with 11.6 billion pounds of food to help those deserving organizations -- for more than two years now.

In the past year, Hilary herself has donated more than 2.5 million meals to hurricane victims in the south through the "food-raising," fundraising organization.

For Hilary, always the anti-diva, lending her name and shining a light on a noble cause is the very least she can do.

"When you are a celebrity, and you have a voice that people pay attention to or a name that people watch and read about, it's the perfect opportunity to spread the word and get people motivated and to remember to help other people and give back," she said.

See this, Ashlee Simpson? Hilary is showing that a singer can not only be talented and down to earth, but can contribute something to this planet as well. She doesn't even put out! Kudos.

Hilary Duff likes her image as a good, wholesome girl. But only to a point.

The starlet, in an interview with Elle magazine, sought to distance herself from claims that she's been too well behaved during a two-year relationship with boyfriend Joel Madden, 27, the frontman of the band Good Charlotte.

"It's hard having a boyfriend who's older because people just assume. But [virginity] is definitely something I like about myself," Duff said.

But Hilary, whose mom described her as a "very chaste young woman" in the same article, denies she ever discussed her virtues since she's dated Madden.

"The thing is that I didn't say that. I wouldn't say that. I don't know how [the writer] got that out of what I said," said the 18-year-old singer and actress, who has totally confused the Gossip as to who said what, or what the hell she's even talking about.

According to Hilary, it's not something that she talks about or wants people to focus on. Nor is her sex life even appropriate to think about, dammit!

"Whose business is that?" she bristles.

During the interview, Duff was also quoted as revealing her deep thoughts on doing it, stating that her position doesn't mean she hasn't thought about sex, because everybody she knows has had it and like every teen, she wants to fit in. But when they talk about it, she says, it doesn't sound special, like she would imagine it to be.

Good for Hilary, sticking to her guns. Sorry, Joel. Looks like there will be no Duff in the buff for some time. Although Duff diving (if you will) may not count -- we'll have to get some clarification on that at a later time.

Singer / actress / virginal tease Hilary Duff took the stage of Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, N.C., last night, performing a free concert to support and honor America's military families.

The multi-platinum recording artist and movie star, perhaps best known for her role in A Cinderella Story, performed in the the North Carolina town that is host to Fort Bragg. The concert was aptly titled "Hilary Duff Rocks for the Troops."

Those in attendance were either military members themselves, or those with military family members. In the past, Duff has made sure blocks of tickets were designated for military families at her shows. This time, she decided this time to perform just for them.

Duff, 18, met with a select group of military families before the show, snapping pictures and shaking hands. More than 7,000 people attended the concert.

"I think she understands, or at least wants to try to understand, the sacrifices soldiers and their families make," said Cynthia Ivins, who brought her two children, Morgan (13) and Denise (9), to the concert.

Hilary is also involved with several charities, and a noted animal rights enthusiast. She is a member of Kids with a Cause" and last year donated more than $250,000 to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. She recently got an editing gig, too. Is there anything this starlet can't do? Besides guys? Eh?

We don't know if Hilary Duff saw The Devil Wears Prada or not - seriously, how would we know that?!? - but the 18-year old is going to work at a fashion magazine nonetheless.

The teenage actress/singer will guest edit an upcoming issue of the popular magazine, Seventeen.

While Duff may not have much publishing experience, the supposed virgin does have her own fashion line called Stuff by Hilary Duff. Now there's a name for a business! The Gossip could learn a thing or two from this beauty.

Now if only this barely legal teenager would stop being so lazy. The editing realm is only her sixth dozen professional industry, following in the footsteps of acting, singing, designing ...

Okay, that's not true. At all. But we couldn't resist posting this classic pic from 2005, especially in light of Ms. Duff's recent proclamation of her virginity.

As you can see, Hilary is rocking a condom in her purse, as a guy hoping to see Duff in the buff looks on eagerly. Now, just because she is packing rubbers does not mean that they were used, of course. Nor do we have any proof that this incriminating image is not a clever fake. But it's still good for a laugh.

Let's get these two things straight:

1. Hilary Duff is a virgin
2. And she's not fat

Okay, tabloids?!? The Gossip already covered the former fact, but Duff herself had to step up and explain the latter. The cause for such a statement? Unflattering photos a magazine ran of the young singer/actress, claiming she was "puffing up."

We'll let Hilary explain how these images were misconstrued: The virgin swas shooting a movie at the time and was snapped in what she thought was a stylish outfit.

"I was in Canada filming The Perfect Man and I put on this outfit that I thought was really cute and creative: jeans, a tank top and a scarf tied around my waist," Duff said. "It was windy and the scarf was blowing away from me."

Case closed. At the time, Hilary admits she "wasn't skinny, but I wasn't fat, either," while stating she was "so embarrassed" at the headline: 'Hilary Duff Puffs Up.'

We could not confirm if the star picked up a copy of the Janet Jackson Us Weekly, but she did return to Los Angeles and took up pilates with sister Haylie.

After the same publication ran a story about her now being a stick figure, Duff came to a sensible, admirable conclusion:

"You can never make those people happy, so you just have to make yourself happy!"

Amen, virgin. Amen.

Hilary Duff may be dating Joel Madden, but the punk rocker hasn't seen much more of this singer/actress than any fan. How is that possible? Because Duff claims she wants to remain a virgin until her wedding night.

Hey, it worked for Jessica Simpson. Until that awful, public, humiliating divorce.

Duff, 18, is intent on remaining true to her V-card, however. She's upset when fans automatically assume she and Good Charlotte star Madden are have swapped much more than spit.

Poor Madden, though. He'll have to wait a bit before he can fit into his girlfriend.
