Following the tragic death of Cory Monteith, it may not be important in the grand scheme of things - but it's something Fox will need to consider:

How will Glee Season 5 handle the passing of a central cast member?

Cory Monteith as Finn

It's not unprecedented for programs to deal with the loss of an actor or actress.

The West Wing gave John Spencer's Leo a heart attack. Just last year, Dallas wrote in a funeral for J.R. Ewing after Larry Hagman died.

Glee star Cory Monteith was found dead Saturday. He was just 31.

Vancouver police found Monteith dead after he failed to check out at noon from the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel. Staff went to check on him and made the discovery.

It's been reported that he was "clearly deceased" at the scene.

Reports got it half right.

Adam Lambert is headed to a Fox show. But it isn't American Idol. It's... Glee!

Adam Lambert in Action

Keeping the singer's role a secret, creator Ryan Murphy Tweeted last night: "I am thrilled to announce that the super talented Adam Lambert is joining the cast of Glee this fall."

When Glee Season 5 kicks off on September 19, four familiar faces will not be around to welcome viewers back to the Fox musical comedy.

The network announced today (via TV Line) that the following actors/actresses will not return as series regulars:

  • Heather Morris (Brittany)
  • Mark Salling (Puck)
  • Amber Riley (Mercedes)
  • Harry Shum, Jr. (Mike)
Glee Peeps

In related news, Dianna Agron - who scarcely appeared as Quinn on Glee Season 4 - is not slated to make any appearances at all in 2013-2014.

It is possible that any or all of the aforementioned quartet may pop up for at least one or two episodes, but it's too early to know for sure at the moment.

Earlier this week, Fox announced its fall premiere calendar.

Over the years, Glee has tackled controversial issues relevant to teens, from suicide to bullying to abuse to texting while driving.

But the show actually aired an episode last night based around a school shooting, the fallout from which has left viewers either loving the bold step or reacting in horror that a musical comedy would dare go there.

The installment featured various characters stuck in various parts of the school when a gunshot rang out.

Glee has cast a mother for Artie.

And she's a serious bad ass.

Katey Sagal - who cracked us up for years on Married with Children but now wears a far more dramatic face on Sons of Anarchy - will guest star on Season 4 of the Fox musical as the parent of Kevin McHale's wheelchair-bound choir member.

Glee star Cory Monteith has checked himself into rehab for substance addiction.

Monteith's rep confirmed to People that the 30-year-old entered treatment voluntarily, telling the magazie:

"He graciously asks for your respect and privacy as he takes the necessary steps towards recovery."

This is Monteith's second time in rehab.

He admitted in a 2011 interview that he had a substance abuse problem as a teenager and first sought treatment when he was 19. We wish him well in his recovery.
