After news broke this summer that Cory Monteith had diedGlee fans began to wonder just how the show would go on in his absence.

RIP, Cory Monteith

Tonight, Glee paid tribute to the late star and his character in what might be one of the most emotional episodes of television we've seen in quite a long time. Here's a recap of the tragic action:

  • The episode takes place three weeks after Finn Hudson's funeral as the glee club gathers to say their own goodbyes. There was no mention of how Finn Hudson died, only that he had.
  • In true Glee fashion, characters paid tribute to Finn in song. Amber Riley's vocals are sorely missed around the McKinley choir room.
  • Tina still can't get a reasonably story line.
  • Burt and Carole were heartbreaking. (It was all heartbreaking.)
  • Without Finn around to tell him he's a good person, Puck has decided to join the Air Force. Santana plans never to return to McKinley.
  • Considering the circumstances, everyone in the cast was amazing, especially Lea Michele as Rachel.

Over the first two episodes of Glee Season 5, the Fox hit has paid tribute to The Beatles.

But emotion will be turned up to an all-time television high next Thursday night when the series pays tribute to one of its own: Cory Monteith, who passed away from a heroin overdose in July.

The series gave viewers their first look at this farewell to Finn last night, airing a promo for the installment that features Lea Michele singing "Make You Feel My Love," along with numerous scenes of characters breaking down.

We doubt much acting was needed for this one, sadly. Watch now:

Heather Morris of Glee gave birth to a baby boy on Saturday. His name is Elijah!

This is the first child for the Beyonce backup dancer turned actress Morris and her longtime love, Taylor Hubbell, whom she met in high school.

Speaking about Hubbell in 2011, she gushed, "I want to marry Taylor and have kids with him. I love acting, but if it affects my relationship, then I won't continue."

That said, the Heather Morris' pregnancy was a happy accident.

"It was totally unexpected, but they are incredibly happy and excited," a source said.  "Heather is glowing! She is so happy. She is really excited to be a mom.

"She is just amazed by the whole experience."

Congrats to Heather and Taylor Hubbell!

The Glee Season 5 premiere paid tribute to The Beatles, as numerous songs by this iconic band were covered by Kurt, Blaine and company.

It also featured a proposal… two characters coupling up… Santana getting a new job and a lot more. Read our Glee preview review for a full rundown.

But in two weeks, emotions are sure to run especially high as the series honors the late Cory Monteith. This star passed away on July 13 from a heroin overdose.

Creator Ryan Murphy has said his character of Finn will also be killed off, though it's unclear in what manner. It's bound to be a tear-filled, sentimental, unique hour of television and Murphy just released the first promotional photo in anticipation of the installment.

In what was a much anticipated return, Glee kicked off season 5 with a tribute to the Beatles! And just in case we didn't get enough of the Beatles, we'll have even more Beatles next week!

But let's not get ahead of ourselves. For the full Glee review, head over to TV Fanatic, but here's the rundown on what's been happening in the halls of McKinley since we last saw our New Directions.

  • Funny Girl: Rachel didn't get the role of Fanny Bryce. Or maybe she did. After overhearing the producers talking about how she was "too green" (Rachel. Green. See what I did there?) Rachel assumed she didn't get the part and wandered the streets of NYC singing "Yesterday." While the song was about Rachel's past and her quest for fame on the bright lights of Broadway, the song felt very much about the late Cory Monteith.
  • Here Kitty Kitty: Kitty and Artie are an item. And Kitty's...nice? At first she wants to keep it a secret to protect her street cred since there's a new Cheerio on the pyramid, but when Tina calls her out for being emotionally abusive, Kitty says she's ready to let the world know that she and "Arthur" are a thing. Oddest pairing ever.

Fox's extended trailer for Glee Season 5, kicking off this coming Thursday night, predicts an event filled with Beatles Mania! Just ask star Darren Criss.

The actor makes it clear that his character Blaine has certain, long-term intentions for Kurt, while also talking up the "evil' Sue Sylvester we'll see this fall.

Also on tap? An opportunity for a New Directions dynasty. Will the group win yet another Nationals title? How will Cory Monteith's death be addressed?

Multiple Beatles-themed episodes will air long before we find out the answer to the former, and many tears will no doubt be shed when it comes to the latter.

Perhaps the following news will distract folks from the alleged Demi Lovato nude photo scandal:

On the red carpet of the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night, Naya Rivera confirmed that Lovato will recur on Glee Season 5, providing new information on the singer's upcoming role.

“She’s playing my [character Santana’s] love interest so I’m very, very excited about that," Rivera told reporters, adding that she will sing at least one track with Lovato and joking that "we're bringing her to the dark side."

Demi Lovato Promotes The X Factor

Demi is expected to film Glee episodes in between judging responsibilities on The X Factor, with earlier reports stating she will portray a struggling artist in New York City who also croons a duet with Adam Lambert.

Cast members on that series, of course, continue to struggle with the death of Cory Monteith.

A tribute episode will air in his honor this fall, with Glee returning on Thursday, September 26.

Here is some fun news to distract fans from that rumored Demi Lovato nude scandal:

The singer/actress is nearing a deal to appear on multiple episode of Glee Season 5, with TV Line reporting she will play a struggling artist who is based in New York and who interacts often with Rachel and Santana.

She'll also share numerous (musical!) scenes with Adam Lambert, who is also set to recur in an unknown role.

Demi Smiling

Look for Lovato to debut on October 3rd and for Fox to cross-promote the heck out of her as an X Factor judge and a major Glee guest star.

The role will mark Demi's first major acting gig since the Disney Channel canceled Sonny with a Chance two years ago. She has also appeared in episodes of Prison Break and Grey’s Anatomy.

It's clearly going to be a strange season ahead on Glee.

Following the death of Cory Monteith, the show has announced that it will also kill off his character of Finn, though creator Ryan Murphy recently confirmed Finn's passing will NOT be the result of a drug overdose.

But the series won't simply be doom and gloom doing forward, of course. There are musicals to stage and upbeat tracks to cover.

With that in mind, Fox has released the first promo for Glee Season 5, which doesn't reveal a great deal about what's to come, aside from showing us a very enthusiastic Mr. Schuester on the September 26th premiere.

Glee creator Ryan Murphy has offered up new details on how the series will deal with the loss of Cory Monteith, who died of a drug overdose in July.

Finn will pass away, but despite Murphy's previous statements that Glee will "deal directly" with the issues that led to the actor's death, he will not OD.

“There were a lot of things that we had to decide ... how are we going to deal with his death?” Murphy said, and his answer may surprise Glee fans.

Finn will die, but how? We may never know: "Basically, what we’re doing in the episode is we are not telling you yet, or maybe not at all, how that character died."

"The idea being, how somebody died is interesting and maybe morbid, but we will say very early on, ‘This episode is about a celebration of that character’s life.'"

"That might be weird for some people, but it felt exploitative to do it any other way."
