Cinco de Mayo may be a more popular holiday stateside that it is in Mexico, but even so, we figured we'd take this opportunity to highlight some of the achievements of Mexican-American stars who have broken through in Hollywood.

Selena Gomez
Selena was born in Grand Prairie, Texas to a Mexican-American father. She's named after Tejano pop star Selena.

Celebrities like Selena Gomez and Salma Hayek have paved the way for future entertainers of Mexican descent and the list of stars from south of the border who have achieved global success is growing every day.

Mexican-American director Robert Rodriguez recently launched El Rey, an English language television network targeted at Latino audiences and highlighting the achievements of Mexican-Americans in the media.

El Rey is just the latest in a long line of cultural coups that reflect the changing face of the American population as well as the essential on-going contributions made by actors, writers, directors and singers of Mexican heritage.

George Lopez was arrested last night at casino in Canada where he had one too many ... or 10 too many. He got popped for public intoxication after this:

George Lopez Drunk

Law enforcement sources say Caesars Windsor security alerted police to the Lopez "situation," i.e.. the comedian passed out on the casino floor.

The 52-year-old was arrested inside the casino bar at the Caesars Windsor; no charges were filed after Lopez was taken to a holding area to sober up.

Lopez had performed at the casino just prior to his arrest. Guess it went really well? Or really badly? Either way, he's scheduled to perform again tonight.

Lopez has been released and will perform this evening ... but not before he joined this awesome collection of stars who have gotten arrested here in 2014!

Amanda Bynes
Amanda Bynes has been arrested in September 2014. For DUI. This is a mug shot from her previous arrest, but she's been booked once again this year.

Late night host George Lopez made a joke this week implying that instant Dancing with the Stars favorite Kirstie Alley is a pig. It didn't go over too well.

On Tuesday's Lopez Tonight, he said, “She did a nice job,” after showing a clip of Kirstie and Maksim Chmerkovskiy. “Her little hooves tapping away.”

He then did a play on the classic nursery rhyme, This Little Piggy Goes to Market, before playing a clip of a pig squealing “wheeeee” riding in a car.

Having thought better of it, Lopez apologized last night on Twitter:

Not sure how one misjudges a joke in which one calls a woman a pig - not something they typically take kindly too - but it appears no harm was done.

Alley struck back at Lopez, writing: "lol...a drunk pig...hehe" and later, this:

"Don't worry about George's comments... just remember what happens to the big bad, drunk wolf... falls in a boiling pot of vodka. Piggy laughs."

Good one. This isn't the first such incident for Lopez, who made weight-related cracks about Bristol Palin ballooning on DWTS last season, too.

Here's Kirstie's strong debut performance from Monday night ...

Will Kate Gosselin, likely the world's worst dancer, be kicked off Dancing with the Stars this week? Not if George Lopez has anything to say about it.

For hilarious reasons unknown, the comedian and talk show host has been campaigning to keep the mother of eight as a contestant on the show.

The 48-year-old Lopez Tonight host proclaimed of his campaign: “America has spoken and Kate Gosselin is still alive! My master plan is working!"

Lopez continued his plea to our nation: "I tweeted that everybody should vote for Kate and why. Do it for her kids. Do it for her poor partner Tony Dovolani and most importantly ... Do it for the United States of America!"

With a pitch like that, how can we say no?

George continued, “It’s your duty, America. Remember every vote counts and it’s time to keep Kate alive. You are the change we have been waiting for.”

Channeling Barack Obama to keep Kate Gosselin on a reality show? Far from unfunny. For more on how you can support this cause, visit KeepKate.com.

One might say the only thing you're doing for the kids is depriving them ... although if it weren't for dancing, she'd just be hawking some book anyway.

As for whether fans will heed George's call, we'd say there's a decent chance. She's set the bar so low with her dancing, there's little room to get worse.

Even a mediocre effort will feel like a victory to supporters who have kept her around while she was flat-out abysmal. Lowering expectations ... genius.

Keep Kate

Will you keep Kate Gosselin? Or are you more inclined to vote for someone else this week? Who are you rooting for on Dancing with the Stars?
