The Fifty Shades of Grey casting rumor carousel continues unabated tonight, with the newest name tied to the project being one who isn't on most people's radar:

Luke Bracey.

The Australian hunk, 24, is said to be one of the current frontrunners to replace Charlie Hunnam, who abruptly bailed on the project a week ago.

"Luke is at the top of the list," the insider says, noting that he has discussed the role and chemistry testing is planned with co-star Dakota Johnson.

Luke Bracey is best known as Trey Palmer on the Aussie soap Home and Away, and as Leighton Meester's love interest in the 2011 film Monte Carlo.

Francois Arnaud is the latest in an increasingly long line of actors to be linked to the Fifty Shades of Grey movie as a contender for the role of Christian.

At this point, they might rename it 50 Shades of Christian Grey rumors, because that's what it's become ever since Charlie Hunnam bailed on the film.

French-Canadian Arnaud has emerged as a contender, alongside Jamie Dornan and others, with the producers having "expressed interest" in him.

Insiders qualify this by stressing that no more than talking has taken place and that neither Arnaud nor anyone else has been offered the role as of yet.

Still, somewhere, Dakota Johnson needs a stiff drink.

Immersive TV schedule aside, there are some theories as to why Charlie Hunnam actually backed out of the Fifty Shades of Grey movie last weekend.

The actor will wrap production on Sons of Anarchy Season 6 before the movie shoot begins in November. Which he likely knew was the case all along.

So what's the real reason the 33-year-old rising star bailed?

Charlie Hunnam, No Shirt

According to THR sources, it was a lack of creative control.

Hunnam, who has penned a screenplay for Brad Pitt's Plan B and Summit Entertainment, made some script revisions to Fifty Shades of Grey.

Of his own initiative. Many of them were well received, too.

Feeding off the positive feedback, Charlie felt compelled to offer more revisions. "That's Charlie, that's who he is," a source tells the site. "He's particular."

Jamie Dornan is reportedly emerging as the frontrunner to take over the role of Christian Grey from Charlie Hunnam in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that the Northern Ireland native has risen to the top of the list, with fellow Briton Christian Cooke also in the running.

Upon the abrupt and surprising exit by the Sons Of Anarchy star last weekend, Dornan quickly emerged as a contender, having been one all along.

He and Cooke were considered along with Hunnam and Alexander Skarksgard, giving the studio's image of Christian a distinctly European flavor.

"Both actors came close to capturing the part the first time around but lost to Hunnam because the Sons of Anarchy star is a bigger name," says THR.

The Fifty Shades of Grey movie has been debated, discussed and speculated about from day one, and the recent turmoil hasn't quelled fans' anticipation.

With actor Charlie Hunnam pulling out of the project almost as soon as he signed on, the million-dollar question once again is who will play Christian Grey.

Among the (fan) favorites? Ian Somerhalder of The Vampire Diaries fame!

While Dakota Johnson is still on board as Ana Steele, TVD fans would no doubt wonder what 50 Shades would be like with Ian and co-star Nina Dobrev.

The Fifty Shades of Grey trailer above imagines just that scenario.

After more than a year of rumors, speculation and online fantasy casting, Charlie Hunnam was unveiled as the star of Fifty Shades of Grey in September.

Then he got cold feet. Despite the stock "scheduling conflicts" line, the consensus is that Hunnam bailed on Fifty Shades of Grey because of the attention.

Some fans were disappointed, but many were downright thrilled at the chance to re-cast the role they didn't feel Hunnam was a great fit for anyway.

The aftermath of the casting shakeup has led to other behind-the-scenes changes that are less public but still significant, as well as more questions.

So here's the latest on what's going on with the project since Charlie Hunnam's exit and what changes we can expect (and not expect) with him gone:

The next Christian. Obviously, this is the one on everyone's mind.

The short list, according to inside sources (not fans), includes Jamie Dornan of the U.K. series The Fall, and Alexander Skarsgard of True Blood.

True Blood star Alexander Skarsgard is apparently one of the actors strongly the running to replace Charlie Hunnam in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie.

Skarsgard

The 37-year-old Swede is under consideration to play Christian Grey, alongside other names featured on Universal's initial list, according to reports.

The original pool of would-be Greys included the likes of Underworld: Awakening's Theo James and the star of Cemetery Junction, Christian Cooke.

A few other names producers are talking to include Divergent's Theo James, Magic City’s Christian Cooke and Jamie Dornan of Once Upon a Time.

Fan favorite Matt Bomer is currently tipped by the oddsmakers to play the lead role at 7:1, with Skarsgard and Ian Somerhalder close behind at 8:1.

Charlie Hunnam left the Fifty Shades of Grey movie because of Robert Pattinson, and not because the latter is set to replace him in the project (sorry ladies).

Following the news that the Sons of Anarchy actor exited the project Saturday, sources have cast doubt on the stock "immersive TV schedule" excuse.

"He dropped out of the movie because he didn't want to be typecast," an insider says of Charlie Hunnam leaving Fifty Shades of Grey before filming began.

Specifically, referring to the Twilight star, the source adds, "He didn't want the Robert Pattinson-esque attention that would come along with this role."

Announcing the news, Universal Pictures and Focus Features released a joint statement that said his TV schedule left inadequate time for preparation.

With Charlie Hunnam out of the Fifty Shades of Grey movie, attention has turned to his would-be co-star Dakota Johnson and whether she will stay on.

Dakota Johnson is said to be worried about her job security after struggling with the pressure of taking on such a high profile project in the first place.

Insiders have insisted that studio executives are completely behind her, and that “Dakota earned the role and she shouldn’t be worried right now."

"The only time she will have to worry, if at all, is if they hire someone that has no chemistry with her, but they are casting the actor with her in mind.”

However, other sources suggest the actress may also be looking to exit the role.

"Dakota is having a very hard time dealing with all the press," a source said.

Here we go again. It's time to hop back on board the Fifty Shades of Grey casting carousel.

With Charlie Hunnam out as Christian Grey - reportedly because he had second thoughts about the type of fame such a role would incur - sources now tell The Wrap and The Hollywood Reporter that Jamie Dornan is a leading candidate to take over for the departed star.

Dornan is an Irish actor best known to American audiences for portraying Sheriff Graham on season one of ABC's Once Upon a Time.

Why would he fit the Christian Grey bill?
