Jamie Dornan has been confirmed as Christian Grey in the big screen adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey, and for the most part, fans are ... okay with it.

Clearly, not everybody is going to be thrilled with the casting pick, no matter who it is ... with the possible exception of Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev.

Jamie Dornan: Hot!

The point is, such a beloved, lusted after character from a book will stir strong emotions, and those make it very hard to please the populace at large.

Despite negative reviews from some, and a collective "he wasn't what I imagined" from others, he appears to at least be an improvement over Charlie Hunnam.

As you can see from THG's survey results, he seems to fare better:

The star of Girls is having a fan girl moment.

With Jamie Dornan cast as Christian Grey this week, Lena Dunham has taken to Twitter and made it clear: she's on board with the selection of this British actor. Very, very, very much on board.

"I'm a monstrous @JamieDornan1 fan," Dunham Tweeted in response to the casting.

She then referenced a BBC Two crime drama that featured Dornan as a serial killer and added:

"Wasn't allowed to be attracted to him on The Fall bc he played a sexmurderer. 50 Shades is my big chance... Wait, Christian Grey isn't a murderer right?"

It's official. Jamie Dornan is Christian Grey. The Irish actor will be stepping into the void left when Charlie Hunnam bailed on the project earlier this month.

Not too much is known about him in the U.S., but perhaps that's for the best.

Sorry, Ian Somerhalder and Matt Bomer fans, but with a relative newcomer, you can truly believe Jamie Dornan is Christian Grey, not an actor playing him.

Jamie Dornan CK

He is an actor, of course, as well as a model. One who could be described, as Anastasia Steele put it, as "the epitome of male beauty" and truly breathtaking"?

We'll leave to you do decide. He's certainly done his share of modeling - shirtless at that - which might help move some of the naysayers over to Team Jamie.

He's not Robert Pattinson, but there was a time when Robert Pattinson wasn't R-Pattz either. Think about that. Just visualize. Let the fantasies linger.

With an open mind, click to enlarge more Jamie Dornan pictures below:

Prepare to be upset all over again, Ian Somerhalder and Matt Bomer fans:

According to Variety, Jamie Dornan has been confirmed as the new lead in Fifty Shades of Grey.

The Northern Irish actor - best known Stateside for having portrayed Sheriff Graham on ABC's Once Upon a Time - became an immediate favorite for the role of Christian Grey soon after Charlie Hunnam dropped out of the production a few weeks after landing the part.

Although producers have yet to decide on who will play Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie, it appears one actor has moved to the forefront.

Once Upon a Time star Jamie Dornan is the frontrunner, and has auditioned for the part, according to new reports. The actor had a "very good read," in fact.

Two relative unknowns, Billy Magnussen and Luke Bracey, are also believed to be under consideration, as is True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard.

It was shocking news when Charlie Hunnam bailed on Fifty Shades of Grey, but fans of the E.J. James book seem to be breathing a sigh of relief.

While Dornan's reported audition hasn't landed him the part just yet, and he may not be ideal in some fans' eyes either, Hunnam was never a popular fit.

The mere idea that the 50 Shades sweepstakes are up and running again is more exciting than Charlie's casting was, which itself is a telling sign.

Right now, it looks like Dornan's to lose ... but stay tuned.

What do you think? Should Jamie play Christian Grey?

Charlie Hunnam wants to move on to a new chapter in life. The actor spoke publicly for the first time since bailing on the Fifty Shades of Grey movie.

At the 2nd annual "Hogs for Heart" event benefiting One Heart Source Education Programs in Burbank, the Sons of Anarchy actor broke his silence.

"I am doing good. I am just really concentrating on work. It's been a really busy time," he said, revealing a factor in his personal life we weren't aware of.

"I have had some family stuff going on so just trying to stay focused and positive and keep trying to do a good job at work and be with my family and stay positive."

The 33-year-old actor's father, Billy, had passed away in May of this year and Charlie traveled back to his native England to be with family at the time.

There may not be even a slim chance of it happening, but Britney Spears votes for James Franco to fill the Fifty Shades of Grey void left by Charlie Hunnam.

She may not be alone in that assessment, either.

  • Work Bitch Singer

Asked about the Fifty Shades of Grey movie and who should play Christian Grey in a recent interview with London’s KIIS FM, the "Work Bitch" singer said:

“I love James Franco! I think he’s really cool.”

So does the girl who Franco helped get back at her ex with a cute Facebook photo. That was awesome. So Britney likely can count on her support.

As for why Spears is such a big fan of his?

The Fifty Shades of Grey casting rumor carousel continues unabated tonight, with the newest name tied to the project being one who isn't on most people's radar:

Luke Bracey.

The Australian hunk, 24, is said to be one of the current frontrunners to replace Charlie Hunnam, who abruptly bailed on the project a week ago.

"Luke is at the top of the list," the insider says, noting that he has discussed the role and chemistry testing is planned with co-star Dakota Johnson.

Luke Bracey is best known as Trey Palmer on the Aussie soap Home and Away, and as Leighton Meester's love interest in the 2011 film Monte Carlo.

Francois Arnaud is the latest in an increasingly long line of actors to be linked to the Fifty Shades of Grey movie as a contender for the role of Christian.

At this point, they might rename it 50 Shades of Christian Grey rumors, because that's what it's become ever since Charlie Hunnam bailed on the film.

French-Canadian Arnaud has emerged as a contender, alongside Jamie Dornan and others, with the producers having "expressed interest" in him.

Insiders qualify this by stressing that no more than talking has taken place and that neither Arnaud nor anyone else has been offered the role as of yet.

Still, somewhere, Dakota Johnson needs a stiff drink.

Immersive TV schedule aside, there are some theories as to why Charlie Hunnam actually backed out of the Fifty Shades of Grey movie last weekend.

The actor will wrap production on Sons of Anarchy Season 6 before the movie shoot begins in November. Which he likely knew was the case all along.

So what's the real reason the 33-year-old rising star bailed?

Charlie Hunnam, No Shirt

According to THR sources, it was a lack of creative control.

Hunnam, who has penned a screenplay for Brad Pitt's Plan B and Summit Entertainment, made some script revisions to Fifty Shades of Grey.

Of his own initiative. Many of them were well received, too.

Feeding off the positive feedback, Charlie felt compelled to offer more revisions. "That's Charlie, that's who he is," a source tells the site. "He's particular."
