Dakota Johnson says she knew she wanted to play Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades of Grey even before she read the popular erotic novel trilogy.

Her resolve only strengthened once she had a chance to.

Dakota Johnson as Ana Steele

"I just really understand it," Johnson said of the coveted role she's been given. "I think it's an incredible love story, and that's why it's affected so many people."

"Erica [author E.L. James] did a really good job of explaining how that can happen, you have this chemical pull to someone. The sex makes it perfect."

"Sometimes you feel a little bit naughty, and that's okay."

The actress, whose parents are Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, says no one except her boyfriend, actor Jordan Masterson, knew she was even up for the part.

If ever there were a case for buying books brand new instead of borrowing them from the library, this might be it.

Herpes was found on copies of Fifty Shades of Grey when two Belgian scientists decided to test the top 10 borrowed books from the Antwerp Library to see what sort of disgusting things they might find.

You guys.

They found HERPES. And cocaine. But...herpes!! ALL THE HAND SANITIZER!

While the scientists did say that they didn't find enough herpes on the books for a person to contract the virus, they did find enough cocaine for a person to fail a drug test.

What are people DOING with their library books?! Do we even want to know?

No, no we do don't.

Suffice it to say, Jamie Dornan is the right man for the job.

Speaking for the first time since landing the coveted role of Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie, the actor says he is ready and willing to get freaky.

"I'm a fairly worldly guy," the former model, 31, says. "I grew up in a very liberal place. I'm not saying we had a playroom, but I'm not shocked [by the sex]."

"It's essential to tell the story. I can't believe films that don't invoke the sexual side of it," adds the Northern Ireland native. "So it works for me."

As for co-star Dakota Johnson's take on the material?

"Obviously, I want to look good naked," she tells the mag. "I totally understand now why people exercise, because it kind of f--king feels awesome."

Charlie Hunnam quitting Fifty Shades of Grey was "disappointing," author E.L. James says, and she says she worries the final product will be as well.

It's not that she doesn't have faith in the film's producers, it's just that she had reservations about turning her trilogy into a movie series to begin with.

"I didn't know if it was the right thing ... but then I thought, ‘I'm middle-aged; when in the hell am I going to get another chance to make a movie in Hollywood?'"

Imagine how the best-selling novelist felt when leading man Charlie Hunnam backed out of the project just weeks before production was set to begin.

"It was disappointing, but it is what it is," James tells EW. "I wish him well."

The Fifty Shades of Grey movie producers have confirmed that its release has been delayed until 2015, but have yet to address the biggest remaining casting question:

Who should play Kate Kavanagh, Anastasia Steele's BFF?

  • Blake Lively in NY
  • Kaley Cuoco Photograph
  • Amber Heard Bikini Photo
  • The Right Hough

The much-talked about project's casting is almost complete.

Anastasia (Dakota Johnson) has her Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan), and his big brother Elliott (Luke Grimes) is also in the mix. But no Kate yet.

The effervescent college roommate of Ana also forges a relationship with Elliott, so this is a key role. One we still get to play fantasy casting with!

Some blonde beauties who would be quality Kate Kavanaghs ...

  • Kaley Cuoco. The Big Bang Theory star is vivacious and outgoing, not to mention every guy's dream girl. Hard to go wrong ever.
  • Amber Heard. A sexy bombshell like Kate, her striking, delicate features and hourglass figure make for quite a package. Plus, she's talented!
  • Katrina Bowden. The 30 Rock alum looks the part, and could be a lesser-known face than other stars on this list who might overshadow Ana.
  • Blake Lively. Gossip Girl's leading lady is a fan favorite for Kate.
  • Julianne Hough. Because Grey is the new black ... face. Sorry.

In a seemingly inevitable move, the release date for Universal's upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey movie has been delayed until Valentine's Day 2015.

The movie had been scheduled for an August 1, 2014 release, but production in Vancouver has already been pushed back due to recent turmoil.

Northern Irish actor Jamie Dornan, who plays kinky billionaire Christian Grey, replaced Charlie Hunnam in the lead role and needs time to prep.

Fortunately, he also found the time to pose for EW's new cover story:

  • Jamie Dornan, Dakota Johnson
  • Jamie Dornan: Christian Grey

The studio insists that the move was also necessitated by the hectic summer schedule that the Fifty Shades of Grey movie was originally competing in.

Guardians of the Galaxy hits theaters next year, and other studios are moving films from June and July to August to avoid the World Cup in Brazil.

With the Fifty Shades Of Grey movie delayed a month, the cast is still being built around Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele and Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey.

To wit, Victor Rasuk will portray Jose, the aspiring photographer and classmate of Anastasia, whose close friendship with her pits him against Christian.

Rasuk

Of course, we all know he loses out to Grey, the wealthy businessman whose disturbing past has left him with a need to dominate his partners ... S&M style.

Rasuk was in HBO’s How to Make It In America, as well as Raising Victor Vargas and the Steven Soderbergh-directed Che. He’ll next be seen in Godzilla.

Luke Grimes was recently cast as Christian's brother Elliot, and Jennifer Ehle as Ana's mother, while Ana's best friend Kate Kavanagh has yet to be cast.

With its new lead, the Fifty Shades of Grey movie will begin production in December. It is still on track, at least as of right now, for an August 2014 release.

The Fifty Shades of Grey movie has its leading man - for the second time - but the casting change has forced a month-long delay in the start of production.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Charlie Hunnam's departure from the role of Christian Grey, which went to Jamie Dornan, has put off the production.

The movie was initially set to start filming in early November. Now it won't begin until December 2, which could jeopardize its August 1, 2014 release date.

Nothing has been decided regarding the latter point, but if they can get it filmed in 3-4 months, that still leaves another few more for any post-production.

What is known is that Dakota Johnson will star as Anastasia Steele in the film alongside Dornan, who takes over for Hunnam as Ana's lover Christian.

Luke Grimes has won the role of Elliot, Christian Grey's brother, in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie, filling in another key piece of the casting puzzle.

The 29-year-old will join Jamie Dornan as his on-screen brother and Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele in the film, which begins shooting next month.

Anastasia’s roommate Kate Kavanagh, and Christian’s mother and bodyguard, are among the supporting roles still open in the much-talked about project.

Kate and Elliot, of course, must have a certain chemistry themselves.

Elliot is described in the books as tall, muscular, and wide-shouldered with curly blonde hair and blue eyes. He is funny, affectionate, and laid-back.

Jamie Dornan has been confirmed as Christian Grey in the big screen adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey, and for the most part, fans are ... okay with it.

Clearly, not everybody is going to be thrilled with the casting pick, no matter who it is ... with the possible exception of Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev.

Jamie Dornan: Hot!

The point is, such a beloved, lusted after character from a book will stir strong emotions, and those make it very hard to please the populace at large.

Despite negative reviews from some, and a collective "he wasn't what I imagined" from others, he appears to at least be an improvement over Charlie Hunnam.

As you can see from THG's survey results, he seems to fare better:
