People's dreams of seeing Matt Bomer in Fifty Shades of Grey may still be realized, but this EW cover making the online rounds is nothing but a fake.

A pretty convincing, seductive fake!

The image, showing the White Collar star's blue eyes and flawless face, was leaked to the web with the headline "Fifty Shades of Grey: The Wait is Over" ...

Matt Bomer as Christian Grey

"Matt Bomer talks about changing the white collar for a grey tie," the fan-made cover continues, implying that Bomer locked down the role of Christian Grey.

Casting for the movie role of the mysterious billionaire with an affinity for bondage / S&M has become a spectator sport for fans of E.L. James' bestseller.

Filmmakers confirm that Bomer's casting is just wishful thinking, though.

Dana Brunetti, one of the co-producers of the big screen adaptation, said on Twitter: "All of the rumors on #FiftyShades are just that - rumors. No one has been cast in any role."

"We have to get a writer and director first."

Bomer has been a fan favorite for Grey for a while now, but Bret Easton Ellis (who made no secret of wanting to adapt the saga before being dropped from consideration), said the notion of casting openly gay Bomer is ludicrous.

You tell us: Would Matt Bomer be a good Christian Grey?

If you're a guy who just wants to tear the clothes off your girl after reading Fifty Shades of Grey ... we feel bad for you for having actually read that book.

You'll soon be able to tear Fifty Shades-themed clothes off her, in any case.

Three apparel companies have reached licensing deals with author EL James to market official Fifty Shades of Grey apparel ... including underwear.

50 Shades Cover

According to TMZ, CopCorp Licensing has secured the rights to sell Fifty Shades t-shirts and hoodies, ladies' pantyhose, underwear, and pajamas.

Hopefully they'll be stain-resistant, if you know what we mean. If you don't know what we mean, you probably shouldn't be reading this anyway.

In any case, James' trilogy is a VERY valuable brand.

With more than 40 million copies sold worldwide, it's one of the biggest books in years, and the Fifty Shades of Grey movie is already hotly anticipated.

Production is still a long way off, but debate over casting - most recently whether or not Matt Bomer should star because he's gay - is off the hook.

Bret Easton Ellis may be no longer under consideration to write the Fifty Shades of Grey screenplay, but he's still making his opinions about it known.

Namely, he says it would be "ludicrous" to cast a gay actor - specifically Matt Bomer - as Christian Grey in the film because of his sexuality.

The openly gay Bomer (White Collar, Magic Mike) is considered by some people to be a perfect Christian based on his looks and acting ability.

It's to say Ellis, 48, who raised eyebrows last year by calling Glee a puddle of HIV, is not one of those people angling for Matt to be cast.

Ellis insists he is not discriminating on grounds of sexual orientation, but unabashedly believes Bomer is a bad choice. He wrote on Twitter.

"Okay. Let's finalise this ... Matt Bomer is totally hot and a very good actor. He is NOT right for Christian Grey and it complicates the role."

"I don't care how good an actor you are but being married to another man complicates things for playing CG."

"This is NOT about discrimination. It's about an intensely straight actor wanting absolutely to screw Ana Steele."

"Fifty Shades of Grey: the most popular book on the planet having Matt Bomer - a gay actor - play Christian Grey is absolutely ludicrous. Why?"

"Okay I'll say it. Matt Bomer isn't right for Christian Grey because he is openly gay. He's great for other roles but this is too big a game."

"And I think if Matt Bomer wants the role which I doubt the international press tour will be an embarrassing fiasco. He's not CG. Never."

"I am NOT discriminating Matt Bomer because of his sexuality. Fifty Shades of Grey demands an actor that is genuinely into women. Get it?!?"

"I actually think it's cool that women want Matt Bomer as Christian Grey. It means that we've moved beyond stereotypes and that gay is hot."

"I think Matt Bomer is incredibly handsome and a good actor but I think he comes off totally gay in White Collar. And that is why no to CG."

NOTE: The role has not been cast, but Bomer (like the Vampire Diaries' Ian Somerhalder) is frequently discussed as a possible casting choice.

It's unclear if enough readers even know who he is, or care that he's gay, to influence their perception of his character and on-screen chemistry.

As a professional actor he could probably sell it, but opinions will likely vary on how well. As for why Ellis is ranting about it ... who knows.

What do you think of Ellis' comments? And do you think Bomer would make a good CG? Sound off in the comments - and in the poll - below:

Matt Bomer as Christian Grey?

Bret Easton Ellis will not be adapting Fifty Shades of Grey for the big screen, despite the considerable, earlier talk of the screenwriter's involvement.

Ellis made it no secret at all that he wanted to write the Fifty Shades of Grey movie, even speculating on who should portray Ana and Christian.

Ian Somerhalder was even lobbying him for the part of the latter, but now it looks like Ellis will be watching from the sidelines with the rest of us.

"It's a very major disappointment to announce that I've somehow been taken off the list of possible screenwriters for Fifty Shades of Grey," Ellis tweeted.

"Thanks to the fans for the months of intense support. Your awesome enthusiasm and great suggestions were instructive and meaningful to me."

It's unclear why Ellis is out of the running or how he knows this, but it's rumored that Universal and Focus have their eyes on four different writers:

  1. Karen Croner (One True Thing)
  2. Dan Fogelman (Cars, Tangled)
  3. Veena Sud (TV's The Killing)
  4. Kelly Marcel (TV's Terra Nova)

Again, no idea why those four are the reported finalists, but that's the inside information at the moment as the Fifty Shades rumor mill turns.

In other news, EL James compiled Fifty Shades of Grey: The Classical Album, and Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis recently read from the book.

EL James is coming out with a companion album of sorts for 50 Shades of Grey ... classical style, not bow-chick-a-bow-wow, body-slapping style.

Unlike the Fifty Shades of Grey “soundtrack” playlist presented on the bestselling author’s official site, this record will feature strictly classical music.

Sadly, it does not include Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis reading 50 Shades of Grey passages, although honestly that could sell millions.

Take a look at the brief video trailer for the album below...

EJ James personally selected 15 works she said inspired her trilogy (Fifty Shades of Grey, Darker and Freed) to include on the special album.

James is “thrilled that the classical pieces that inspired me while I wrote [Fifty Shades] are being brought together in one collection for all lovers of the books to enjoy.”

The album “aims to provide the perfect accompaniment to the Fifty Shades experience, setting a mysterious, alluring atmosphere with just the slightest hint of danger…”

Follow the jump for the OFFICIAL track listing of composers who no doubt dreamed that centuries after their death, their music would be used as the backdrop for Christian Grey ransacking Ana Steele's body night in and night out ...

Amid reports that Emma Watson was in discussions for the lead role of Anastasia Steele in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie, the Internet got all sorts of excited.

For no reason.

Despite rumors linking her to the hotly-anticipated project, the Harry Potter cutie says she is not in negotiations to star, nor has she even read it.

“I haven’t read the book, I haven’t a read a script, nothing,” she said.

“There are so many movies you become attached to when I’ve literally never even received a phone call or expressed interest. It was the same way with The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo - I never even saw a script!”

She adds that even some friends and family asked her about Fifty Shades of Grey since so many different "news" items popped up online.

Her response to that: “I told them just because there are 60 articles on the Internet doesn’t mean it’s any less true than if there are 3-4.”

So no Emma Watson as Ana Steele. But you can see her in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Bling Ring and Darren Aronofsky’s Noah soon.

Channing Tatum has thrown his well-chiseled abs and buns of steel hat into the Fifty Shades of Grey ring.

Sort of.

Asked during a Glamour-sponsored Twitter Q&A with fans this week about the main role of Christian Grey in that upcoming big screen adaption, the Magic Mike star simply said YES, he'd be open to the role...

... but he added a caveat:

"I'd only be allowed if my wife was Ana. She’s read the books so I don’t think she’d be impressed if she couldn’t be Ana!”

Tatum is married to actress Jenna Dewan. But she might need to get in line behind Emma Watson, who is reportedly a leading candidate for the character of Anastasia Steele.

Other actors that have expressed interest in portraying Christian include Ian Somerhalder, Ryan Gosling, and Alexander Skarsgard.

Would you want to see Tatum in this sexy role?

Talk about casting against type...

According to The New York Daily News, Emma Watson is the latest actress rumored to be up for the role of Anastasia Steele in the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey big screen adaption.

Watson, of course, will forever be known as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter franchise. She'll next be seen in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which hits theaters on September 14.

Who might star opposite Watson if this young star nabs the role? Ian Somerhalder, Ryan Gosling, and Alexander Skarsgard have all been talked about as Christian Grey.

Do you want to see Emma Watson portray Anastasia Steele?

Robert Pattinson weighed in on the Fifty Shades of Grey phenomenon today at Comic-Con ... with an obvious reference to the erotic novel's sexiness.

When questioned during the Breaking Dawn: Part 2 panel, he and Kristen Stewart were mum on whether or not they've read the sex-filled bestseller.

If presented with a copy, however, he knows just what he would do.

"I would just sit there and lick the pages," Pattinson said in San Diego, adding, "What are we live on?" realizing his response would gain attention.

Stewart on the other hand, was less upbeat about the topic.

When asked if she reads the novel in a book club with Pattinson and fellow Twilight star Taylor Lautner, she said simply, "That would be disgusting."

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have been mentioned as possible leads in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie, however unlikely that may seem.
