Proving that she doesn't need a disgraced, hockey-playing ex making lewd comments about her in order to make celebrity news headlines, the NHL's hottest neighborhood bicycle, Elisha Cuthbert, heats up the pages of Complex magazine.

The actress hasn't been in anything noteworthy in a while, but she's still the hottest export from Canada since ... well, Evangeline Lilly. Sorry, Elisha.

Yowza. We're pretty sure this sentence has never been spoken before in the history of the English language, but you are one lucky man, Dion Phaneuf. And we're not talking about the Calgary Flames' lead in the Northwest Division.

Notorious hockey motormouth and off-ice "player" Sean Avery's suspension has been officially set at six games by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman.

The Dallas Stars forward already served two games since he was indefinitely banned Tuesday for calling Elisha Cuthbert his sloppy seconds, in what the league called "inappropriate public comments, not pertaining to the game."

Bettman's ruling was announced on the NHL website Friday, one day after a three-hour hearing was held regarding the issue at the league's Manhattan office.

Avery used the crude but still somewhat funny expression in Calgary, Alberta, while speaking to reporters to describe his former girlfriend, Cuthbert, who is now dating another hockey player, the Flames defenseman Dion Phaneuf.

He later apologized without mentioning either by name.

NOT A "SLOPPY" DRESSER: With nothing to do for his team's next six games, the Dallas Stars' Sean Avery is free to indulge in his other passion: fashion.

Suspended by the NHL for making an offensive statement referring to his ex-girlfriend Elisha Cuthbert as sloppy seconds, Sean Avery has apologized.

"I should not have made those comments and I recognize that they were inappropriate," the hockey star said. "It was a bad attempt to build excitement for the game, but I am now acutely aware of how hurtful my actions were."

"I caused unnecessary embarrassment to my peers as well as people I have been close with in the past. As many of you know, I like to mix things up on and off the ice from time to time, but understand that this time I took it too far."

The NHL commissioner summoned Avery, who plays for the Dallas Stars, for a hearing Thursday on his indefinite suspension for making what the commissioner called "inappropriate public comments, not pertaining to the game."

Although he didn't mention Elisha Cuthbert by name, the actress now dates Calgary Flames defenseman Dion Phaneuf. With the Stars about to battle the Flames, Avery referenced one of his opponents taking his "sloppy seconds."

No word on when Sean Avery will be reinstated.

The NHL sucks.

We apologize to its 12 fans, but don't even try defending this logic (it's even sillier than putting hockey franchises in Arizona, Texas and Florida):

The league allows fights - serious, punch-the-hell-out-of-the-other-guy fights - with only five-minute penalties assessed to the participants.

But call your opponent's girlfriend your "sloppy seconds," well, don't even think about that! The NHL draws the line there. Enjoy your next strike, morons.

Cuthbert's new boyfriend, Dion Phaneuf, plays for the Calgary Flames - and during a practice session in Calgary this week, Sean Avery said the following:

"I just want to comment on how it's become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds," he told the media.

"I don't know what that's about. Enjoy the game tonight."

Avery is suspended indefinitely pending a hearing with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman. Elisha Cuthbert and Dion Phaneuf have not commented.

This is a change for Dion Phaneuf.

The Calgary Flames defenseman was spotted this week on water that wasn't frozen. But the National Hockey League star had a good excuse: his team is no longer in the playoffs.

Oh, and he's dating actress Elisha Cuthbert. As you can see in the photo below, Cuthbert is more than just The Girl Next Door to Phaneuf. She's the girl in his lap.

Remember when we told celebrity gossip followers that Paris Hilton was pretending to be a lesbian? Well, the talentless socialite is out to prove us correct.

The latest example of her gay shenanigans involve actress Elisha Cuthbert. According to Us Weekly, the two blondes were "all over each other and making out" at New York's Tenjune club Tuesday night.

"Who knew?" said the source of the unlikely pairing, one who was obviously oblivious to our recent entertainment news reports.

Hilton and Cuthbert didn't arrive at Tenjune together. Hilton was there for a birthday party and was seen dancing on banquets. Earlier in the evening, Paris attended the BlackBerry Pink Pearl Launch Party.

"She was actually super well behaved and even took the time to take some photos with the BlackBerry executives," a witness told the magazine.

For someone so hot, Elisha Cuthbert is dressed like she's freezing in the photo below.

Did she learn nothing about fashion from hanging out with Paris Hilton? Call Paris spoiled, a skank, soon-to-be jail bait and an awful human being - but she'd at least never be caught dead in a giant hot pink scarf.

Combine that with the leopard-print shoes and you've got a look that makes Molly Sims and her French maid outfit look hip.

Our advice to Elisha? Follow the lead of a nearly nude Pamela Anderson and ditch the clothing altogether.

Actually, no, it's just a camera trick. Paris did not become Brooke Hogan-esque overnight. Rather, her newest BFF, Elisha Cuthbert, is actually just a little bit farther away! Amazing!

Paris schooled Elisha on how to act like a dirty slut shop like an heiress, as the two hit up one of her favorite fashion institutions, rummaging through the shelves like it was their f*%king jobs. Which in Paris' case, it kind of is.

Hopefully, the former star of "24" found some shoes, because she's got some awfully big ones to follow regarding her coveted position as Paris Hilton's BFF.
