On The X-Files, the character played by David Duchovny would often say, "The truth is out there."

The actor may still believe that, but he doesn't think Great Britain's The Daily Mail is attempting to seek it.

Duchovny has filed a lawsuit against the tabloid for its allegedly defaming accusation that he carried on an extramarital affair with Edit Pakay. The suit reads:

The story falsely alleges that Duchovny sought out Ms. Pakay to be his tennis instructor and that the 'professional relationship'...quickly turned into a love match. By its intentional and reckless conduct, Daily Mail has caused substantial harm to Duchovny, in complete disregard of the truth and of even a semblance of journalistic integrity.

David Duchovny did not have sex with this woman!

As Edit Pakay waivers on her admissions, and denials, regarding an affair with David Duchovny, a photo of the Hungarian tennis pro and another famous actor has surfaced.

Years ago, it looks like Pakay and Owen Wilson were at least friendly enough to pose for a picture together. Might she also have worked on his serve-and-volley technique... if you know what we mean?

As for the rumored relationship between Pakay and Duchovny, a friend told London's The Daily Mail that the pair met last year at a Malibu Racquet Club.

The source added that “[Edit] never set out to seduce him, but she’s a gorgeous woman and he is a highly sexed man. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure it out. The sad truth is Edit fell in love with David. He told her he loved her and she believed him.”

As Duchovnys character on The X-Files would say, the truth is out there.

On second thought, Edit Pakay is denying a sexual relationship with David Duchovny.

Earlier today, Great Britain's The Daily Mail published an interview with the Hungarian tennis instructor that made it sound as though her and the actor carried on an affair while he was still married to Tea Leoni. Pakay said she was "not gonna deny" such a charge.

Now, though, the vixen (pictured below) wants to take a second serve.

"We played tennis, and we were playing partners and friends," she told E! News. "There is no romance, and we are just friends. No love, nothing. That is all I have to say."

Duchovny’s lawyer, Stanton "Larry" Stein, told E! News agreed that he the British newspaper article was "all lies and deceit."

"Edit Pakay met with me personally before this article came out and told me she never had a sexual or romantic relationship with David," Stein said.

David Duchovny is an admitted sex addict who has been separated from wife Tea Leoni for many months.

And Edit Pakay is giving us a pretty good reason why.

Pakay is a Hungarian tennis coach that has pretty much admitted to giving Duchovny lessons with his backhand... if you know what we mean!

"We have a very, very close friendship. I don't want to be the third person in the marriage, but I know it can be seen that way," Edit told Great Britain's The Daily Mail. "David and I are very close friends and we still play tennis together. He's an excellent player. He likes physically strong, fit women."

He seems to really, really, really like them, Paka continued.

"I don't want to say anything that might hurt David. I am not going to deny [an affair]. I don't know what our relationship means to him," she said."

Neither do we. But we know it means a great deal to celebrity gossip fans!
